Hi @KittyBeanie and welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

I think SC4 is not possible to "master" because of how the only defined end goals are those driven by our own imaginations.

There is the artistic side of playing, where mayors who make City Journals commonly use decorative items (named MMPs) to prettify their landscapes. Then if more interested in the gameplay, you'll find the simulation is very intricate. For starters I recommend looking through resources my post here links to. Those explain about the core concepts to get familiar with how SC4 works.

You'll get there, and I think the most important thing is to keep asking questions when unsure of anything. Most likely the General Discussion forum will be the best place to ask gameplay related things, and then we also have the Bugs & Tech forum too (which is for technical issues).

This is a very friendly community, and I'm sure you'll like it here too.

I believe I never introduced myself here. I'm an American who occasionally plays city-building games, among a whole list of other games.
When I'm not gaming I'm probably either doing something related to games or something creative, such as art, music, programming, or some form of modding/mapping.
I don't really know what else to say since I'm really not good at introducing myself without a prompt hahaha

Hello, All. I am not a newcomer to Simtrpolis but I haven't been active for a number of years.

Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Gary Vanderbur (I go by Vandy), a 70 year old retired male living in Clayton, North Carolina. USA. I've been married for almost 47 years to the most wonderful woman in the world.

I have been playing SimCity 4 since December, 2004. I should mentioned that I rarely played the simulator, rather I was a avid map maker and posted under my mapping service, "Map This! - Cartography Services." (My maps are still on the STEX.)

I plan on installing the simulator again and see if I can get wougaine's SC4 Terraformer working on my Windows 10 laptop. If I can, I plan on making maps again.

Hiya, @Vandy. Welcome back to activeness on Simtropolis. *:)

I have a special place in my heart for maps thru my own, albeit crude, explorations. I believe it's quite possible to get Terraformer running on Win 10. We certainly have peeps around with the techy knowledge to help should you have any questions about the installation.

Hi @Vandy and welcome back on your grand mayoral return! *:golly:

It is always cool when established members like yourself re-visit SC4 and the community again. Although you might not recognise Cori or me, your name did spring to mind in how you'd made content for the game which I recall seeing. Also it sounds wonderful about the prospect of creating maps again, and there aren't very many mappers around these days (currently @SIM-ple Jack is one of the most proficient and current active mappers).

Certainly it is possible to run Terraformer on modern systems, and it just needs a few DLL files for that I believe. Feel free to post a new thread and people are bound to help you with knowing what to do there. Also you might be interested in the newer Mapper version which gives more flexibility than the old version.

The community is still going strong all these years later, so it's great to have you around. Things will likely look significantly different than what you last remember. Probably quite a few new faces especially (like us!), but we're sure you'll enjoy Simtropolis and getting back into the swing of things again.

Welcome back, Kotter, er, I mean Vandy. You're quite well-known to me as I've tripped over Vandy Shipping and a few other enterprises in my many travels through the STEX. You might be interested in my mapping club(sig link below) to share your wisdom, pick up a few tricks or announce new releases. I believe rsc mentioned yesterday that Terraformer should work up to 10. Saw your Monument Valley map. Awesome, always wanted to do that one myself. *:thumb:

Hello again, dudes and dudettes.  After a lengthy (and unfortunately unavoidable) absence, I am back.  I've had some health issues (not COVID-19 related) but (hopefully) am on my way to a full recovery.  *

So hello to all of the new peoples, and hello again to those I knew before. *:D

It appears that much has changed since I last posted so I'm sure that I'll have lots of questions.

Hi @That Retro Guy and welcome back! *:8)

Nice to see you again, and glad to hear you're on the mend with getting better health wise now.

Simtropolis is still going strong as you can see, with some notable new developments over the past year or so. There have been 3 NAM releases as well, so things are moving swiftly with new SC4 modding developments nowadays which is great. You may find the Popular Topics feed useful to catch up on notable new topics in recent times, along with a few other activity listings from this index page. All these are fairly new site additions which might come in handy to view the site from a new perspective.

I remember your Prepping my First Region thread well, which you're most welcome to continue posting inside if you'd like. Or open new topics if wanting to ask anything specifically. You might even be ready to open a "Building my First Region" thread, which precludes the "Playing my First Region" one later on. *;)

Either way, we're happy to see you return once more, and do keep asking questions when unsure.

Howdy from San Antonio, Texas. I've been peeking around the website for about a month now and figured I should finally introduce myself. I'm 37 years old and I''ve played the SimCity franchise since the original came out in the late 80's. I just started playing again about a month ago after I saw SimCity 4 Deluxe on Steam and I've really been enjoying it. Started out here a few weeks ago downloading new maps for my game and I've really enjoyed working on a number of different cities. I just installed the NAM yesterday and after a frustrating day of trying to figure out exactly how it works I think I am getting used to it...now just trying to imagine how I can implement its many functions in interesting ways. Anyways, thanks to everyone who maintains and adds to this site, this is really cool.

Hi @Ryans1983 and welcome to Simtropolis and forum posting. *:8)

Glad to hear you're finding SC4 fun again and enjoying it here. There sure are many possibilities which the NAM provides, and it offers a plethora of tools in its own right with expanding on networking capabilities. You may find the posts @Naomi57 makes useful in her CJ for all things NAM and gameplay themed.

Also this thread is very insightful:

It's great you're already enjoying it here, and do ask questions if unsure of anything. We're all here to help. *:)

Well, first I have to get the NAM up-to-date.  There were actually 3 updates since I left?  I have NAM 36 installed.

It'll take me awhile to organize my questions.  I'm also returning to work after an almost 3 week recovery lay-off.

Stay tuned, sports fans.  *:thumb:

Hi @Maxzys and welcome to Simtropolis as a forum poster. *:8)

Sounds a great idea for joining the SC4 community, which continues to flourish all these years later. Just yesterday ST had its 18th birthday as well, which is testament to how SC4 still sustains a global interest for such a long period. You'll enjoy being part of this place, we can guarantee it!

Hello,

Long-time Simtropolis member, new account. I was a kid when I was using the forums/mods early 2000ish era city-building: SimCity 3K Unlimited, Simcopter, The Sims 1, etc. Simtropolis MOD CD-ROM era :P

It is good to see the Simtropolis still up and running strong. Definitely a fan and supporter of this site. Also a post to get onto the discord :)

Edit: I had an old City Journal (CJ) prob 10-12 years old. Will post if I find it. :D
