How do I disable objects from automatically snapping to roads? I recently reinstalled the game with all the plugins I had before. I didn't have this problem before, but now the auto-snapping/magnetism is very strong. Did I miss something while installing NAM (an older version, 36)?

Surely many things have changed between NAM 43 and NAM 36. (NAM 44 is about to come out).

Can you post a picture of the problem you have?

With regard to ploppable lots and their orientation? I've never known the game to not do this even in pure vanilla before I joined ST. :O

Yes with regards to ploppable lots. I remember they would always auto-orient to the road but I used to be able to use the orient keys to change it, now it snaps back so fast it's very difficult to plop away from a road. Don't know how I used to do it.

For me the auto snap back happens if I jiggle the mouse any wee little bit and I do have that often, but I've gotten used to it. Are you using the same mouse as before? If not, maybe your current one is super sensitive?

It's more something only a video could show. Basically when I try to plop something it snaps back so fast to the road I can't orient and plop away from it. Obviously there are some workarounds but when things are so interwoven it's hard to destroy a road so I can orient away from it.

Using the same mouse. New computer. I can't seem to control it no matter how still I keep the mouse.

That does then sound like the settings the new comp (and perhaps a different install of the OS) has set it way more sensitive then your old setup. I've never had to adjust mine so I'm only guessing that altering mouse movement sensitivity might help. That'll be in the Control Panel somewhere. Prolly under Mouse.

Okay now it's fine. I suspect a key or something was sticking. Thanks for the troubleshooting.

    EDIT: Now I feel silly

Excellent, and glad to hear it!

And no worries about asking. Sometimes technical problems can appear complexly baffling on the surface. Then once walking through to narrow down possible causes, only then does it become clearer what the issue is. Who knows too, someone might find this topic in future and it'll help them also. *;)

Great to see people are still so quick to lend a hand here. The problem isn't quite gone. It's an on/off kind of thing. Not sure what is causing it. In some places can easily destroy a road so it doesn't snap. In other places it's not so easy. Thanks.

Again, it can’t be stressed too much that this is a ‘feature’ of the game and something everyone experiences at some point. You just have to be very careful not to move the mouse before or whilst clicking and it’s manageable. But you won’t find a way to stop this entirely.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

    Hi guys,

I'm sorry to revive this topic but I've been searching with no luck and this problem is really giving me a headache.
For some reason and all of a sudden, I can't seem to avoid the auto-snap. No matter how I rotate the lot, the snap effect is immediate... I don't understand what could have happened, I have been using this option for over 18 years and now suddenly I just can't rotate my lots if there is a road nearby...

Is there anything that I am missing ?

    Many thanks in advance !!

I used to have this problem too and it turns out that my keyboard is simply broken. For context, I used to play SC4 in a cheap laptop, which like most of that time, had a pretty bad keyboard after a couple of years. When I press home/end, it doesn't step up/down the rotation. Instead, it just stuck and in cases of aside the road, it's just auto snap in place.

Another which is contributed by those before us is the possibility of bad configuration in your PC. Or it could be those pesky software (cough Logitech) that interfere with your mouse/keyboard.

Thanks for your time mate. Thing is that in my case those keys are working as if I remove the roads I can use the proper keys to rotate the lots... The problem is that all of a sudden the auto rotation is forcing the snapping..  so I can't even rotate the lots... Can you give some more info about those softwares? What you mean? I think I am not using any of those but I will check this too.

    Many thanks !

    Hi guys,

I am sharing this info cause I was able to fix my issue with the auto-snapping after being investigating this a bit deeper.

Recently I've followed all the instructions to configure the game to optimize it and make it work better, one of these steps is to install "dgwoodo". So, I've decided to check over that as well, just in case and there I found the following option -> "Capture Mouse":

    image.png.af472f11c068a896182ab38420f66925.png

As soon as I unchecked this option, the problem disappeared. Now I can freely rotate my lots again to plot them as I wish ;)

You did the right thing by bumping this older topic. Now there are two solutions in one place for other peeps to find should they have the same trouble. (It's one of the reasons CB and I did away with the Thou shalt not bump old topics rule. *;))

And I'm glad to hear you did resolve the issue. *:ohyes:  I can imagine how frustrating that would've been before you figured it out.  :O
