How do you do a line-break in iLives Reader 0.93 for LTEXT.

I happen to know this...

The reason for the inconsistencies is due to the line break formatting of text files. If using a free program like Notepad++ it's possible to set this manually.

In the bottom right corner of the status bar, there's an option when right clicking which reveals:

NPP - Set Line Break Format.png

Where:
CR = Carriage Return
LF = Line Feed

Choose Unix (LF) and then the line breaks will be respected once copying them into Reader to a LTEXT file. If keeping it as Windows format which is often the default in text editors, this causes the doubling up of lines as you've seen. Unix format uses a simplified line ending, which prevents this happening. I suspect Macintosh (CR) would work too since it's not both a Carriage Return (CR) and Line Feed (LF) combined, but I haven't tested that.

If wanting to update this for an entire text file, there's no need to select anything since it applies to all lines within. If wanting to simply paste into Reader, it can be done without even needing to save a text file. Just open a new tab, paste or enter in text, space the lines as desired, and then set the line formatting.

It sure would be handy if Reader allowed pressing Enter when editing LTEXT files. Thankfully by pasting text not in Windows format, we can work around it this way.

Thanks for your help!  So only in Notepad ++?  I'd hate to have to re-import a bunch of LTEXT entries.  No way to quickly do it in Reader?

EDIT: I see what you mean.  I don't need to re-import the files, I can just cut and paste and edit in Notepad++, and then copy them back into Reader and it should work.

EDIT #2: And copying back from Notepad++ works!  Thanks!

It eventually allowed pressing Enter while editing. But it's only on Reader v1.5 and up, arguably the worst Reader you can use for its job since it corrupts data often.

Yeah, that's it precisely, using Notepad++ just for the conversions. *

So copy from Reader, into N++ and change the line format. Then copy that text back into the LTEXT entry and save.

Important Note

I just did a test and found it only works in Reader 0.9.3 for this method. For some reason 1.5.4 still forces Windows line breaks even pasting in the correct format.

When pasting in text properly into 0.9.3 you might notice the text appears joined together without any line breaks. It'll appear fine in game however.

Good point there. I'm familiar with trusty old 0.9.3 for most exemplar editing, so I forgot that. About the only use I have for 1.5.4 is UI editing, but even still it needs precautions to make backups. Also it's a good idea to only do one save each time. Then close Reader 1.5.4 and re-open to continue editing.

Reader 0.9.3 doesn't have this issue with corrupting data thankfully.

No, it's fine. It's just you installed NAM, like most of us. NAM adds tons of improvement to the traffic view, including RHW being colored as such. If you don't want it, just uncheck the RHW Regional Transport Map Plugin option when you (re)installing NAM.

Thank you Jidan. Am i forced to reinstall NAM to go back to the previous traffic view graphic? :(
Sadly i'm really attached to the vanilla graphic, moreover its colours helps me a way better on planning than the ones of the RHW Plugin.
(btw i installed NAM ages ago and i never had this issue with the regional view. it started recently after i upgraded SC4 to run on hardware mode after installing dgVooDoo)

Yup, but as long as you make a backup of your plugins, it's safe. Just delete the whole of Network Addon Mod folder if you want to uninstall it. Then, run the .jar again to install it with hopefully the same configuration, just without traffic view. The more you stick to the default when you first installing NAM, the easier to remember the settings.

I sometimes read on STEX that a file has a dependency / requirements called "the BAT Patch"(e.g. on @DuskTrooper DARCKO INC). Does this refer by chance to the Nightlights Update from https://community.simtropolis.com/sc4-maxis-files/? Is this a common term for it or could there be other "BAT Patches"?

Definitely, yeah. It really does refer to the Nitelite Update aka EP1 aka 638/640 patch. If you have the disc version, you have to update to EP1 to get night light. Which also means that if you have digital version, which is 641, you don't need that since it includes 640 plus (I can't say that thing or otherwise, I broke the rules) removal (and for Steam version, adding their own solution). So it's completely irrelevant today. It's also the same reason why you won't see nightlight on macOS SC4 since it doesn't get the nitelite update.

Hi Everyone,

I accidently clicked save on my city after doing some experimental construction/destruction that I didn't actually wish to keep. Not a big deal, because I fortunately back up copies of my city files once a day with Carbonite. However, I've never actually had to restore a city before, so I just wanted to make sure I knew how to do it before potentially causing any further issues.

Is it as simple as going into the region folder, taking out the current .sc4 city file, and replacing it with the backup version? Do the names of the files have to be the same?

Thanks.

Yes, it is that simple.

This question worries me unless it was an un-establishd city tile before and now it's a named one after. If that's the case then as long as you know for certain which file to remove it'll be alright.

Another option is to copy the backup copy into a Downloads folder under your Regions folder and then in the game Import it from there into the proper position on your region map. Single click the city tile in the region view and then it's the lower left icon for the import.

I only ask because I currently have the backup named [city name]_backup.sc4, just so I don't lose track of which one is which or have a bunch of copies floating around with the same name. If it's a concern I can just remove the postscript and just make sure I never have the two files in the same folder at the same time.

Ah! Now I understand. If you have both in the folder then the game will automatically move one of them to the Downloads folder. I'm not sure how it decides which one, but prolly the youngest in game date?

I'm fairly sure the actual file name doesn't really matter, but the safest way would be to rename it back before using it.

For the record, it looks like you're correct that the file name does not actually matter. I'm switching back and forth between both versions right now and they both open just fine.

Yep. I lost maybe an hour or so of work (between when the Carbonite auto save happened and when the accidental save on my part happened), but I can easily hop back into the original save, write down all the changes I want to keep, and then hop back into the backup and quickly recreate everything. No big deal

For this mod, I want to make my own modification for my own personal use. What I want to do is get the 1x1 lot where the lamppost is also on the lot 1 tile outside it.
So theoretically the size of the tile is 2x1 but it is a 1x1 where the lamppost with light is outside the lot (overhanging).
Reason is that for regional roads I don't want wealth under the road (grass).

How do I get this done? Is it really hard?

I am looking for information about airports. I am interested in how the vanilla ones work and what DLC Airports exist and how they affect the game. Is there a comprehensive summary?

Most of the working Airports are here:

https://www.sc4evermore.com/index.php/downloads/download/19-transportation/7-sc4d-LEX-legacy-ultimate-airport-pack

If you do decide to experiment with Airports they are not like other lots.

When you make changes you must delete the previous version from your city before loading the new version or

you will crash to desktop and that city will be unrecoverable.

This is because when an airport is created in SimCity other files are updated and if not deleted these
files will still have the old airport information.

You will need to learn how to use the

Lot Editor Tool

https://community.simtropolis.com/sc4-maxis-files/coolstuff/loteditor/loteditortool_01.php

or

SC4 Tool

Making a prop overhang a lot can be done but it is more complex and the Lot Editor Tool will not allow it.

They are included in the Maxis Air Force Base download:

imgW10-3486.jpg

And if you put this file: Plugin_007_Vehicle_Early_Model_T_Remover.dat in the same folder where you have Plugin_007_AirForceBase.DAT, I believe this will prevent them from showing in your game. (I replaced the Model File linkys with 0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000.)

You know your stuff and might be able to help me with a similar issue!

I use @justforfun's Victorian replacement automata mods, but there's just ONE lowly, modern vehicle I can't seem to remove. It will spawn in a new city, old city, and I think (I remember testing) will spawn with a clean plugins folder with only her content installed (not sure if NAM was installed when I tested that) so either the vehicle is not covered by @justforfun's mods or I'm plopping/growing something that's spawning it. So, do you know the vehicle and is there any way to repress it?

I might. That is the sort of thing which is right up my alley.

I'll need to know the absolute minimum of plugins to replicate what you see where that is the only one which spawns that is not one of her horse and buggies.

There are about 6 (or so) of that exact pickup truck type with only the color being different. Is it always that one you see? Or also some of it's other colors kinfolk?

Hi! I think it is just the white variation, pretty positive.

Hi SneakyDeaky, I'm afraid the problem is in my automata replacement because somehow that pesky white pickup didn't seem to have an exemplar I could replace. If someone can locate it I'll finish the job, alternatively it should be possible to terminate the little intruder with a little mod.
