Hello All,

I hope everyone is in good health and staying safe, given all the craziness happening around.

I'm from London, and have just returned to Simtropolis and SimCity 4 after a loooong time. I bought SC4 on release day in Copenhagen, Denmark as well as Rush Hour expansion pack in London. I can remember how excited I was, but this was a time before I found Simtropolis. I had started playing the game on a PC laptop, but being, at the time, such a demanding game specification-wise, I promised myself that I would return to it with a better computer. Then came the Mac and I 'switched' and never really got back to it. I did try out playing on the Mac with Aspyr's port but it sucked (Night Mode bug) and never really being able to get mods and customisation working on the Mac (which I never had tried before) I looked on the CJ of members here produce such beauty. Occasionally, some moments of desire of playing this beautiful game did came back and I tried again on the Mac, but without much enthusiasm.

So with time now, I have returned. I have a PC laptop now that should be perfect specs-wise, and with no hindrances, I am ready to start afresh. Knowing nothing, other than that I need to download the NAM mod, I am well away reading through the tutorials here. Can't wait to learn more and start playing. Love the region playing, which I don't understand why the new SimCity did not include or what happened. Will Wright?

Hi @ironjaw and welcome back to Simtropolis and SC4! *:)

The brilliant thing about SimCity 4 is how the limitless potential has been founded by what the community has achieved over the past 17 years and counting. You've made a great decision to return, and there's still many people here and at SC4Devotion who continue to keep the "game" alive and fresh. All the new content which is still created and released by the talented BATters and modders, and then the knowledge of people which leads to fascinating technical discussions.

See you on the forums!  (Oh wait, you're already here.)

Thanks (and Corina) for the welcome.

It's nostalgic, but also quite mind-boggling to think about that I was so young when I first played SC4 so many years ago. I knew right then that this game was a game-changer (I haven't played any other the other new instalments in the series, or any other city simulation, so do please recommend if 😀). It really is the perfect game, hence why I've come back. I always had it my mind but had  waited and hoped that the Mac compatibility/issues would catch up and solve themselves, so I never got into all that NAM stuff when I couldn't install it. 😂

And oh WOW, I've just installed the NAM, and a couple of the top mods listed in one of the posts and I've been playing for 18 hours, 6 hours straight without realising that it was already morning. That's what I've been missing! SC4 really is truly an immersive experience.

Thank you, thank you all for your hard work in keeping this website going, but also the working on the NAM and mods, etc. Keep up the good stuff.

Cheers, and a very late goodnight from London.

Welcome @ironjaw, I'm a longtime SC4 player, on and off, and started with the NAM just last year.  SC4 was already a great combination of nostalgia, creativity, and diverse possibilities.  The NAM (and many other mods) extends those possibilities amazingly.

Here's an account of my own experiments with the NAM, if you'd like to see.
