The only other viable option besides GOG is Steam.  If you buy the game from Origin, you'll be saddled with a copy that's permanently stuck on Version 1.1.610, missing key stability fixes and not compatible with the NAM.  Steam's edition carries the same version number as GOG's--Version 1.1.641, which is fully patched.

@Tarkus Thanks for the reply , I almost purchased a copy from Origin . That would have been messed up . SimCity 4 has to have NAM , That's probably more than half the fun of it . Thanks again .

    Hello Tarkus,

I purchased mine from GOG. The only problems I have had was I got the Galaxy version and it would crash to desktop when zooming in and out when using the scroll wheel on my mouse or using the + and - in the game. I removed that version and downloaded the "offline download". and the problem was solved. The only problems I have with the game is my own doing.

I suspect somehow with the Galaxy version the -CPUCount:1 switch was inadvertently removed. Since GoG is the only vendor which includes this vital setting by default. Hence when you removed Galaxy from the equation, it worked. Not that I'd ever be an advocate for using such junk as a launcher for your games, just saying it most likely could be made to work.

but knowing of Amazon as an offer is a big relief!

You need to be careful when ordering SC4 from Amazon, since they have various options. One of which is actually just a linked Origin game code, so you'll end up with the Origin version if you buy that one. I think the "Direct Download" version is the DRM-free variant, if that's true it's 9,99€ price tag (no offer) is actually a bargain, being half the price of both GoG/Steam.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

I bought the "Direct Download" version.  Came with the program key but for some reason I never had to put that in.
