The final step involves to click the Create DAT option as highlighted, then give it a name and Save the file.

From there any could be copied as needed into other .dat files you've already got. If so and a little extra step would be to right click in the left hand pane and use the "Rebuild Directory file" option. This ensures a DIR index is created if needed for any compressed entries. I believe Reader 0.9.3 does this automatically upon saving though, but it's a good habit to get into just as a preliminary precaution. The game wouldn't recognise any to be decompressed otherwise, and would crash.

Then just remember how the loading order takes precedence for any Instances (the "I" in TGI) which are identical in your Plugins folder.

    Hope this helps! *:)

I understand the process fully and got all the way to the 'create dat' stage.  Every time I click that, ilives reader freezes for me.

Could I bother you or anyone else reading this to put these 5 files in a dat for me?  I'm not sure what to do to get ilives to stop crashing

Sure, I can do that. Hang on...

Yes, that'll be the way for the copying.

    1. First I'd open 2 instances of the Reader program. (It can be done inside of the single window if you'd prefer though.)
    2. Load up the Maxis Clumps file as Cori provided in one, then your controller in the other window.
    3. For each of the 5 exemplars, highlight them by using Ctrl+Click to select. They will all turn a blue colour.
    4. Right click on them for a context menu and select the Copy File(s) option.
    5. Then in your controller .dat file in the other Reader window, right click on the left side panel and choose the Paste File(s) option.
    6. Save your controller once done, then the new 5 files will be added inside.

No, the LTEXT file and the DIR don't need copying over. Upon saving and the DIR file which stores the compressed entries will get rebuilt as needed.

I just copied everything into the tree controller and changed what tree model the bush was pointing at.  Seems to have worked, so I'll proceed unless someone says I;m doing something that will hurt my game.

EDIT: Somehow @Cyclone Boom managed to reply after this, but it ended up before my post?  Weird.  Anyway I removed the second dir after your comments.  Thank you!

Now back to choosing my favorite bushes

That might've been because as it happened, checking the timestamps I replied a mere 2 seconds before you posted. When that occurs the board software probably gets a bit mixed up with both posts within such a short space of time, and only upon refreshing the page does it sort them properly. *;)

Glad you got it working, and keep asking questions if unsure of anything. We're here to help.

So all I'm really doing is overwriting maxis trees with what I think looks nice. 5 trees for low elevation, 5 for medium and 5 (bushes) for high.

Is it possible to add a 6th?  So a 6th type of tree in one of these?  And if so, how?

Now you're completely out of my league. I've never tried to make a tree controller. :O

I imagine you are aware of this guide by @11241036 : How to make/edit a tree controller. And I believe there is a thread or two on Devotion by Lowkee about them. (Or maybe that was Terrain Mods).

And a second question:  all the trees I have been replacing have been resourcekeytype1 trees with other resourcekeytype1 trees (nonseasonal)

I have a bush I like that is type 4....can it be included simply by changing the resourcekeytype1 to resourcekeytype4 in the dropdown?

Still out of my league, but the little I know (or believe I know) is that RKT4 will have references to 4 different model files and the whole idea is that the game can cycle thru displaying those on some set schedule with can be times of the day or times of the year. I believe if you want to use something that was RKT4 you can either completely change it to be the RKT1 style by removing the other references or by making a copy of the RKT1 stuff into all 4 places of the RKT4.

Even I don't really understand that tho as I've never worked with them. You might find something in the Seasonal trees into one season trees thread that makes more sense to you, but doesn't seem to touch on brushes per-se.

This looks like it could be helpful: I don't want seasonal trees on lots

Been playing with high elevation stuff.  So far there is nothing that I like better than blanking out all the options and leaving pure green meadow.

    More testing to come
