What is the best way to reduce the crime effect large lots suffer from?

Individual police stations near by?

Special modded stations?

High EQ?

A cheat dat file I can drop into my  plugins?

thanks!

I believe most peeps would recommend Crime Doesnt Pay. (I've not personally used it, but I know others like it.)

The problem is due to police dispatches not being able to travel very far from roads - which means that they cannot reach the centre of larger lots. That's why you will often have that annoying police helicopter hovering permanently over the Maxis airport, or over the country club.

There is a fix out there that corrects the effect radius for police dispatches (at least for the Maxis departments), but you'll have to make corresponding adjustments to any police BATs that you might use, and even so, large lots tend to be particularly prone to crime. I don't have a link at the ready, unfortunately.

I actually hate using radical cheats such as the one Cori linked above, but with regard to crime, Maxis has unfortunately left us with a game that's not really playable without resorting to unfair measures. That's why you won't read a "don't cheat, git gud" rant from me in this case. *:P Nah, seriously: crime simulation is screwed up by default, so you need something to counter-screw the game IMO.

The neighborhood watch ordinance has a city-wide crime-deterrence effect. It might not become available until after you have built some kind of police station in your city. It and smoke detectors are my favorite ordinances because they help to fill cracks in my coverage.
