how do edit the info of a created lot?

I created a building in B.A.T. in Gmax and figured out how to export it... but how do i edit it's info?

You edit info in the Sim City Plugin Manager.

EDIT: Please Read.

Do you see the word models. Click on that and it will show you all the models, Click on Descriptors + button if its up and + button on All if thats up, all the roots will roll out once you clicked on it, you will have to click and hold on your model name and drag the model that you have created in the area where it show all the roots. So if you want to make your building a landmark building just click and hold on the model name and drag it to landmark. Once your model is at landmark you can double click on the name of your model and edited it. when you finish editing you model you will have to put it in Lot Editor and you can fix up the lot for you model.

Making a bigger copy of the same lot

I was trying to make a copy of the hole digging lots, but bigger, but it doesn't seem to work. Can anyone please post how to do it?

I m still searching for a props and models viewer just to view easier them than text lines in Lot Editor , but  ....

searching and searching , and on google too but I can ' t find " Prop Viewer " that you are talking about , 

please, where to find it ?? do you have a link ?

Plugin manager help

I could'nt solve this problem by checking at the omnibus so I have to ask:

I downloaded a BAT house from the stex exchange at www.simtropolis.com and saved it under

My documents\Simcity 4\Plugins.

 

I can open the file in the loteditor and change stuff, but I can't do anything with it when I'm in the plugin manager. The file is located under lots, and I can't seem to move it to descriptors.

It should be located under models as the three examples, but it is just stuck under lots.

How can I move it around in the plugin manager?

You don't. I'd say the model file no longer has the xml file that the PIM needs. The xml file is not required for a model to work properly in game and lots of creators don't include it, especially if they are putting several models into a single prop pack.

Plugin Manager is a rather misleading name for what the program does. Basically all it does is take a model, which must be in the root plugins folder and have its model xml file inside it, and allows you to make a descriptor file for it, which you then add to a lot using the Lot Editor.

Lots themselves (ie the final product of the Lot Editor) don't normally have the model file and associated xml file embedded. They are usually just a building and a lot descriptor (the building descriptor is what you make from the model file using the PIM). This is why you have to download dependencies for many things.

If you have downloaded a BAT and you can't find the model file in PIM even though you have the file containing the models in the root plugins folder, then it is likely that it has had the xml file removed. This doesn't cause problems in the game, but it means you won't be able to use PIM to make a new descriptor easily.

Making a new lot.

So I have been planning to make a lot that functions as a hospital,elementary school,high school,college,police station,firestation. But as it says, I have no idea where to begin. Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm not sure if this is posted in the right section, if not, could you please move the thread to the correct section, thanks.

The Lot Editor on it's own will not be able to do that. The modding required to do this is quite advanced, and nowhere near perfect to implement. Multi-function lots tend to be problematic once you start putting the multiple functions together.

plug-in manager don't work!

I have maked a model with bat (gmax).

I have start the plug-in manager and i drag and drop the model in an category (bulding\ploppable\education\library).

I start the lot editor and I select OPEN.

THERE ISNT THE MODEL THAT I CREATED!

The model you created would not appear in the initial list of buildings in the Lot Editor until you make a lot for it. You most probably set the model as a specific building (e.g: fire station), you must open a matching lot type (e.g: large fire station), then click on the Building tab and replace the existing building with your custom one. If you do not have the "Replace Building" button, you do not have an updated LE (from after it was possible to make custom buildings with gmax). Try getting the LE from SC4D, it should be the correct version.

Functional rail in lot

So, I'm finally finishing  my first building. It's railway station and I want that rail placed in the lot would be functional. I know this is possible as I know a lot of custom lots with this attribute. I searched the forums but I couldn't find the solution.

And yes, nothing else... For now...

Do you mean that you want your BAT to work like a freight rail station (i.e. converting freight trucks to freight trains), or that you want the rail tracks on the lot to connect visually with the rail tracks you lay down in the map?

I want the rail tracks on the lot to connect not only visually, but also I want them to function as normal rail tracks (example: Burlington Train Station).

EDIT: I found out that this is possible to do with SC4Tool. I was successful to do that, BUT later when I tried to open that lot with the LE, it crashes. Same with in-game. If I try to plop it, game crashes.

We can't help much if you don't give us the information we need to know in order to help you. Please tell us in detail exactly what kind of BAT and lot you are trying to make and the exact steps you have taken so far.

Usually the Replace building button is greyed out because there is no suitable building available to add. This would probably mean that you have made a mistake somewhere in the process.

There is a texture you can use, on the STEX which is meant to be there so you can save in LE then remove it from your plugins so it is blank in game. I will edit this tomorrow, and will post a link. (No time today)

Recreating Maxis lots

As you might know, the original Maxis buildings don't really fit that well along custom lots, unless those lots are made without using too much dependancies. Most of the time, Maxis buildings are fine, if I edit them.

Here is the issue. With regular re-lotting in LE, I always get these extra buildings with that ugly picture with a gray background. It's not the background that is the problem, as I know how to edit them. The problem is that I don't want extra maxis buildings, because this will only fill the menu (and because I re-lotted the original, I wouldn't use the original anyway)
 
I would like to know how to make a .dat file that will override a building. For example, the original water tower isn't awful. In rural areas I use them alot because I don't need any more water and it fits in a low density area. The water tower, however, uses a different texture then railroads (next to zoning) and the grass commonly used in SFBT lots such as the diagonal fillers.

I have what I consider "enough" experience with the SC4Tool, LE, and LEProp. I also have a little bit experience with Ilive's Reader (like the transparent texture from the tutorial in my signature), but willing to learn more.

I may be wrong, but I always believed that if you edited a Maxis building and put it in your plugins file, it automatically replaced (overrode) the Maxis building.  So maybe I don't understand your point?

Maybe I should make a better description, yes.

With Maxis utilities/civic buildings, I can't "save" the lot directly, only "save as", and I get another building in my menus. When I have the lot file within my plugin folder.

For example, I relot the large primairy school. When I start the game I have two large primairy schools in my menus, the original Maxis school, and the editted one. But I only want the editted building to show up in my menu's, because I don't edit buildings to only to clog my menus up.

The question is, in short, how can I relot buildings, and let them replace a building in the simcity game files?
