Lot Editor and Plug-in Manager Forum Archive 2011

This thread contains all of the stray topics created in 2011 in the Lot Editor and Plug-in Manager forum. This thread serves to condense those topics into one topic before merging into the new SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop forum.

However, all of the posts from the original threads are merged chronologically, which means that if two threads were posted in during the same time span, their posts will be mixed together, making it harder to read. To help with this, the title of original thread has been edited into the original first post of each thread.

Can't replace building in LE

When I try to replace a building, the only button is a greyed-out add family button. I tried starting the program as an adminitrator, and XP compatibilty mode, but it doesn't work. I need help.

    sorry, found the cause. I didn't download the latest version. Now it works perfectly.

    building disappering

    I can see the building in the transparent indicator part, but once I place the building down, only the ground texture shows up. The only thing I suspect is that I changed the dimensions with iLives reader to fit in a 4x4, and somehow the building footprint doesn't show up in LE. Is this related with the disappearence? If it is, did I do it right? Or is there another way of making the building fit?

    BTW the lot is almost finished. If there's no more problems, I'd upload it this month.

    I think it may be because of a rendering problem. If you created it with the BAT, then try exporting it again. If it is made by someone else, it may need a dependency.

    Random Plopables

    Hello Everybody,

    I am currently in the process of making my own lots for a future suburban developement and I was wondering if anyone can direct me to a tutorial on how to randomize a plopable lot, similar to what Simgoober did for his plop a shop packs found here.

    And before everyone goes into a frenzy about how you cannot plop a residential lot... These lots are going to be strictly eyecandy lots in the form of (I have not decided yet) a park or nonfunctional landmark.

    I cant find my model..in LE.

    Exported from Gmax.. In plug in manager put it in a folder..Open LE but cant find the model name..What am i doind wrong??Please help Thanks42.gif Should i move S4des somewhere from Plugins??

    You have to watch what folder you put the building in when using plugin manager. Lets say you are making a police station. You would have to put the building in police station in plugin manager. Then go to lot editor and open a police station. You should then be able to replace the normal police station with yours.

    Other buildings have the same rule, just open the type of building you made in plugin manager in lot edtor as well, then your building will appear. It it doesnt your lot size is too small. (Just make it bigger to fix that)

    LE Lotted Lot Crashing

    Hi! I have put base textures (JRJ Diagonal Concrete Walls V2) on a set of highway signs (Transportation Safety Project Signs) so that they will look normal on my ground highways on embankments instead of there being a grass gap whenever I place a sign. However, I have a problem of it crashing when I place it. I put base textures onto 13 signs, using 1 of the original sign lots as a start and applying the textures and props to it. Then I used the modified original and just replaced the buildings to be the other 12 different signs while maintaining the textures and props I put in. I can place the first modified lot but the other lots will cause my game to CTD when placed. Does anyone know why this happens? Also, on the set of 12 modified signs, I cannot see the grey square that represents a building in LE even though I can see the model.

    You should edit your title.  You are not having a crash in the lot editor, but that's the way I read it.

    Did your CTD have any other symptoms?  When you loaded your city did it display any messages about missing objects?

    There are idosyncracies in the lot editor and you have to be careful, for example, to preserve the base textures.  If you remove base textures, you need to put them back.  If you expand the lot you need to copy the base texttures into the new grid spaces, etc.  And make sure you are using the right version of the Lot Editor.  The correct one has a link on the BAT download page.

    Well actually, these aren't causes of CTDs. Granted, such things could case graphic glitches on occasion, but a CTD indicates something under the hood is messed up. 49.gif

    Create a Lot, with a building name like department store. Then create the BAts, and make them plops. Then find the plop family property in iLives reader, an copy it in. Do test it first though, as it may clash with other families, so i suggest making the number you put in REALLY unique. (And if you want to give it jobs, there are tutorials in the omnibus or ask me.) Dont hesitate to ask about reader and things either, i can try and help. I was actually temptedto do this myself at one point....

    When I try to export now, there is an error, code is 90. I will still try to export though.

    BTW it's a big project, takes about 2 hours to export, and there are 8 faces on my LODs

    How Do I make Ploppable Boats?

    Hello,

    I wanted to make some water ploppable boats using Pegasus's props. I was just wonding how I would go about doing this in lot editor.

    I am not sure if this is exactly how to do it, but you should press alt+up arrow key to raise the prop every so meters. If you just place the boat on the lot and place it, it will probably be under water. It depends on where you want to put them(shallow waters or deeper waters). If you want them to be in the shallows, raise it to a maximum of 50 meters or under. If you want them for deeper waters, raise them higher than 50 meters(I am not good with in-game measurements). Be sure to add water tiles on them in Lot Editor.

    plugin manager issues

    hello i just installed the B.A.T from simcity.com in hope to be able to finally give back to the community. after having problems loading the program i found a fix on simcity.com.   now i can open the plugin manager but when i try to use it, it says it is out of memory, what does that mean?   trust me , i have plenty of memory on my pc, at least 90% available ...can anyone help?!?

    What's the exact error message? And what were those "problems loading the program"? It should be easier to help you if you state as exactly and thoroughly as possible what you did and in which order.

    The steps should be:

    1) install the game

    2) patch the game

    3) apply the BAT patch

    4) install gmax

    5) install the BAT

    If you missed one of these steps or ran into trouble, this information might help us find the reason for your problem.

    custom freight station won't spawn freight train (UDI)

     Hey I made a freight station by editing maxis's one and transit enabled it, but it doesn't unlock the freight train. It's udi capable but it won't spawn freight trains as udi. I'm worried that it isant functionally (i dont have any big citys) It's here on simtropolis (https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=25812)

    I'm running windows xp home edition on a intel celeron 1.1 GH processer

    512 MB RAM

    I have 424 MB page file used, 1078 MB avalaible

    my video card is nividia geForce2 MX/MX 400 with 64 MB video memory

    (my computer is maxed out and is form 2001)

    Make downloaded buildings landmarks

    I downloaded several buildings from STEX, yet most of them include jobs/occupants whatever. For instance, I downloaded a skyscraper that includes 2776 CO$$$ jobs, which is not what I want. I just want to use it as if it was a landmark that provides nothing. Is there any way to do this?

    Yes. Basically, you...

    1) delete everything but the .sc4model file,

    2) place the model file in your root plugins folder (NOT in a sub-folder!),

    3) open the Plugin Manager (installed with the BAT tool for gmax, you may have to install gmax and the BAT first),

    4) drag the model file (you should see it in the right half of the screen mask) to the "Landmarks" category in the tree to the left and drop it there,

    5) enter/adjust values as you see fit, and

    6) close the Plugins Manager application.

    You should now have an .sc4desc file of the building model that holds all properties of the building (the "building exemplar).

    Now you need a lot for the building. Proceed as follows:

    1) Open the Lot Editor.

    2) Choose any existing LANDMARK lot. The lot type must correspond to the building exemplar you're working with, e.g. CS§§ lot for a CS§§ building exemplar, landmark lot for a landmark building etc.

    3) Click on the building and select "Replace building/family". A list with available buildings should pop up.

    4) Select your newly made landmark from the list. if it doesn't appear, the lot may be too small. Try increasing the lot size and check again.

    5) Your building should now sit on the lot - as landmark.

    6) Design the lot as you like, click SAVE AS, enter a name for the lot, and exit.

    Now you can delete the loose .sc4desc file (it has been copied into the lot file automatically). That's it.

    EDIT - Before you do anything, rename your active plugins folder to something else and create a new, empty plugins folder. If you want to use any dependency packs, copy only those into your plugins folder.

    Ok thanks I got it to work!! But another question, I also downloaded some landmarks and want to add some jobs and residentials to some of them. Is there any way to do this? And is it also possible to make a building provide both jobs and residentials? Thanks.

    A building cannot provide jobs and residents at the same time. If this was possible, the community would have been pumping out mixed-use buildings for years.

    Adding jobs to a landmark is described in an Omnibus Tutorial in the "Lot Editor Tutorials" section - a link to the Omnibus can be found on top of the page or in my sig.

    Be aware that plopped lots don't allow anything to leave them. This has no consequence for plopped commercials, since no traffic leaves them anyway. Industrials, will be unable to send out trucks with their products, resulting in long freight routes, which has a slightly negative impact on the lot in question. Residentials will most probably not work because the Sims will be unable to leave the lot. Every once in a while, people claim that it works for them, but this could never be really verified.
