Weird terrain glitch with subbuildings

I'm in need of some help! Turns out my new power plant is causing this very strange terrain glitch as seen here. It like this also affects water, causing flooding if it's placed near a river, and seems to affect large areas. But I just can't figure out what's causing it! :???: I'm hoping you guys have some ideas.

The building consist of the main building (the big boxes) and two subbuildings (1x16 park with concrete on the left, 8x16 building with the smokestack on the right). Both the main building and large subbuilding are power plants (only the main building produces power, employs ppl and so on - only reason the right half doesn't use the dummy building ai is the steam doesn't activate for dummy buildings  ). All buildings are set to flatten terrain and for both subbuildings "fixed height" is enabled.

Here's what I've tried and the results:

  • Delete both subbuildings - terrain glitch is gone.
  • Delete large subbuilding - still causing the glitch
  • Disable "fixed height" for both subbuildings - still causing the glitch
  • The above plus disable flatten terrain for main building - still causing the glitch
  • Create a new subbuilding (park building template, no stucture) with "flatten terrain" enabled - still causing the glitch
  • Create a new subbuilding (park building template, no stucture) with "flatten terrain" disabled - still causing the glitch
  • Disable flatten terrain for subbuildings and main building - still causing the glitch
  • Create a new subbuilding (park building template, no stucture) and main building (power plant) with "flatten terrain" disabled - still causing the glitch
  • Put together the default coal power plant and oil power plant (as the subbuilding) - no terrain glitch
  • Reimported both part using the default coal power plant and a park as templates, put them together - still causing the glitch
  • Tested the newly reimported parts on their own - no terrain glitch

Now I'm gonna go set the thing on fire and maybe hit it with a meteor or two while I try and think of something new to try. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Grrr... Stupid subbuildings... I like boformer's mod much better - caused me much less pain!

This explains why my test map save got completely rekt, It flattened 4 pieces of land in a weird way, only after saving/loading.
I would've never made the connection that this power plant did it, at least now i know.

Yet another problem with an "integrated" mod.

I also found out today that if you want a building which has a sub building of itself (I need this for my Kachidoki bridge), not only is it a broken asset, but it throws the updated loading screen mod into an infinite loop.

Same. I haven't even encountered it in my savegame - I'm wondering if there's some connection to where on the map it happens too. Where I was testing it only about one piece of land was affected.

Yeah, saw you had the issue with the bridge. I guess you could save a copy of it as Kachidoki bridge2 and then place that as the subbuilding. But then they most likely don't share textures and model by default. :P At least it seems Svenpotsdam has managed to update some of his assets successfully (he just had an issue with the button not showing up).

I'm so tempted to going back to using the Sub Building Enabler mod - just reimported the whole thing (using the default coal power plant as template) and now placing the 2nd subbuilding throws me a "Divide by 0" error... -_-  still get the glitch when I put them together.

I made the sad decision to take the power plant off the workshop. :( Got a few ppl now who have save games load with massive flooding because this messes up the terrain and this is the best way not to mess up more saves. I'm not sure it'll do anything for the already messy ones, but at least it won't happen to more. I'll keep trying to figure out what's causing this and reupload it when it's fixed. When reimporting the whole thing from scratch using default building templates I just don't know what else to try. :???:

I recently got a comment on my bridge:

    Quote

BloodyPenguin 2 hours ago @Ronyx69 They didn't integrate SBE contrary to that popular myth. They just didn't have tools to edit sub buildings in asset editor and that's it. But sub buildings is a thing that was present in the vanilla game since the beginning. I reported many sub buildings editing related bugs and CO should fix them in the bugfix patch.

Let's hope this issue is one of many they're going to fix.

Hopefully. If it's something buggy that'll explain why I can't seem to find a way around it. *crossing fingers*

Such a bummer you had to pull the asset, but completely understandable.

I sure hope CO gets a patch out soon, sub-building everything seems royally broken. Even stock assets are having issues with the sub-building burning down and containing an infinite amount of garbage.
I'm glad we found out about this fairly early on but I'm sorry it had to be discovered on one of your assets.

I found the issue! Turns out a park with no structure causes with when used as a subbuilding. So my little 1x16 park on the side was to blame for it all. And all my testing was done with empty parks, because I thought that was safer than with my models (in case the issue was with them). xD Just typical! Guess I might as well add a little detail to that side of the building, since that looks like it'll fix it. :P Gonna wait for the coming patch, so that gives me a little time for that.

Ty for the moral support guys! I guess it was bound to happen at some point to one of my assets - I'm just happy I found the cause! If I'm gonna flood cities I'd prefer it to be my own and when I intend it. :P

Wow sounds like such an annoying bug to find. However I'm so happy I stumbled on this I did not connect this issue with the power plant but rather I thought my mods had gone screwy... what a relief!

Yeah, that was pretty surprising. But there's a new and fixed version on the workshop now. So no more terrible flooding or glitched terrain. ;)
