May I know the city loading time and frame rate? I am seriously considering to delete most of my mods if the game lags too much.

Again, hopefully an expert will give more precise details, but SC4 requires use of only 1 CPU core to avoid CTD.  I wish I still had my high-end gaming computer, but even so, with a seperate graphics card and serious RAM, HD and CPU speed, the SC4 program only operates in downward compatilibilty mode for Win XP update 3.

I usually play large tiles with heavy construction in vanilla mode.  When I do use a lot of mods and user created content, keeping the plugins down to about 1-2 gigs I found reasonable, the lag isn't terribly intrusive, and there is no flicker.  There are several command line instructions you can use to optimize running the game.

Erm, I think you may have confused which thread you are in.

I've just booted the game up after a long pause. Anecdotally I'd say the loading times have just got worse, but on the flipside I'm getting a smoother frame rate. Then again, that could be updated drivers from NVidia behind that.

No one can tell you exact figures though, it depends on many factors like your hardware and what you ask of the game. My experience is you need a high-end rig to really play the game well. That will allow you to use a sensible amount of mods without running into real problems. If you want to see what effect mods are having on your game, switch them off and load your save file and you should get an idea of the difference.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

Mutliple CPUs can time-slice on any level of operation, and especially for complex animated graphics.

City Loading Time and Frame Rate <--- looks good to go from this side.

SC4 requires use of only 1 CPU core to avoid CTD ie. SC4 can only use 1 CPU and will regularly crash to the desktop as the pointer exceeds the stack.   Otherwise, in regard to non-hardware specific flicker, the frame rate is determined by the CPU/GPU input flow.

@RandyE, Once more I think you have got threads mixed up, this one is for Cities Skylines, not SC4.

I must be posting backwards again.  In French don't they say Skylines Cities?    Okay, so in English its 4CS.   Oui?

One thing to check for is if you're using  a separate graphics card make sure it is being used by the program rather than the built in GPU.  If the CPU is multicore make sure all cores are being used.    If all else fails just get a digital download (without a DRM) of SC4, it will help keep me from mixing threads.   Speaking of threads, even with optimal cores, speed, ram, graphics handling, the multithreading may not be as efficient as one would expect, so lowered frame rate and/or CTD may still result.

The loaded mods are mostly static sitting in RAM so I'd say they have less significance in determining frame rate or performance.   <---that would apply to that other game I mentioned as well.

You are the one mixing threads here, and it's hilarious. :D You are in the wrong forum,  Cities: Skylines and SimCity 4 are two different games.

Of course its hilarious, I play both games, and even on the same computer --use to anyhow.   Try loading SC4 and getting confused when the mouse wont rotate in 3D cam mode. :)

I use some tweaks to try to improve the performance of games in my computer. Can anyone want to try some of them to find it really helps? If so I will pot them later.
