Everyone keeps getting sick - then dying! Over & Over again!

I have no idea if its me or the game, but for some reason, everyone keeps dying! I had more than enough hospital capacity to deal with everything but suddenly a huge segment of my city got ill. Then the demand for health care when through the roof! I've got a population of about 40,000 cims but I have over 20 hospitals with the budget on the highest setting. Then everyone started dying, then everyone moved out....

...then moved back and the cycle seemed to start again!

WHAT IS GOING ON! I did think maybe it was something like traffic was bad so no one could get to the hospitals but its only bad in small sections of the city, the rest of it is fine.

You most likely have some polluted water somewhere. Check your water pumps and make sure they're not taking in poop water. Also make sure you don't have a water tower somewhere near industry.

DO'H... some how I accidentally put a pumping station next to my sewage outflow hahaha, no idea how that happened!

Sometimes the sewage outflow can also change the current of the river, so a pump you thought was safe suddently isn't. :P Good to hear you found it. ^^

No matter how experienced you are at this game it's so easy to make such a fundamental error! We can convince ourselves that everything we've done is fine- we couldn't possibly be to blame only to discover our basic glaring error after searching for hours- staring us in the face! Glad you've traced the root cause

I tend to customize my maps and put my sewage pumps as far downstream from my intake pumps as possible. I have had to restart too many times to admit how many times I accidentally poisoned my Cims.

"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

I had people getting sick because waterpipes was going throught a highpolluted industriearea directly into a livingarea. Just cut off the pipe and made a kind workaround pipe fixed it.

So the water pipes are porous and allow in contaminants from the areas they pass through?  In addition to having to worry about the purity of the water intake itself?

No, that doesn't matter, only intakes matter. Aside from water pumps, this also concerns water towers. Don't put water towers in industrial areas or on patches of land that contain an oil resource.

So if only the intakes matter, why would OwiHH's example above happen?  Sealed pipes should be able to pass through an industrial area without causing water contamination, no?

I think he was mistaken. The scenario he talked about simply doesn't happen, as the pipe system doesn't work that way. He probably had a water tower too close to an industrial area or on an oil spot, or some water intake in an industrial area directly on the shore, which sometimes seeps pollution into the water. It's easy to miss the sole water tower or pump that causes the issue. Most people forget to check for oil resources.

Sealed pipes pass through an industrial area without causing water contamination. I always design my water pipe network with complete disregard for what it passes through, because that doesn't matter.

im not sure about it and wouldt take it as a mysterium - something went wrong there - but you are right normaly pipes dont get polluted by industrial areas. i had a sewageplant nearby that may caused it. Well never happend again yet.
