    the purple is the new example. The doorway def looks better. the windows look better also for being square instead of rectangle. so looks like i may be good to go.... 

    what I found in my research today was that the top of the windows meet with the top of the door and I wanted to keep it far enough away from all the sides so that the trimming will fit as well as the trim for the windows. 

    i also think I know how I am going to do the garage door as well. I know from my research that american at anyrate the doors are 15foot wide and 8 feet tall. i am not sure how that translates to the game but I can prob fig it out now that I have a baseline to start from. Thank you guys for the input...

    ok here we go... still working on it but i thought I better post a pic...

    i made sure the garage door was taller then the door of the house. and I decided that I would go ahead and attatch the garage onto the house like the original version. 

    thought or input.... I also did the windows a bit differently made them so if this house was real the windows could be opened infact I may just do that leave one open... or maybe two... lol... so anyways... still have a while to go but any mistakes at this point would be more fixable and the way I did everything this time its not such a jumble of a mess.. the roof sticks out just a bit like in real life.. I did the same thing with the door I looked at my doors and I decided that I would do these the same way so if this was a real house you could open the door as well. i even put a door handle on it.. lol... well its a start anyways...

    The doors and windows look good for proportions. I like the doorknob too. One thing I would suggest is the roof for the garage where it meets the roof of the house would have the potential to hold too much rain. Here's a pic of what would be more likely from a real world building perspective:

    I am reworking the LG grain silos. The more I studied the picture the more out of place they seemed. Way to big and way to wide. So I am reworking them to fit in a smaller space and not be so tall. They were like 15m tall I took them down to 9m tall and 5m radius. Just about done with the first one my next step is the ladder which instead of being 2m wide they are now 1m wide but I may take it down to .25m or .50m wide. Then their is the platform at the top to allow access inside the silo. Still working that out. I have also come up with a better idea for the conveyor belt thingy at the top. 

    Then there is the bright texture to deal with. I think it needs to come down a notch or two. 

    I hope also by remaking it from scratch that it will solve the shadow issue.

    My advice for dimensions is to just use real life dimensions, so just make the door the size of a door. 

    The exception would be things that are too small to see in renders. For example bricks are so small that a brick texture would just look like flat brown, so you need to make the brick texture bigger than it is in real life so that you can tell that it's bricks. Same thing with siding, the horizontal lines would all merge together if the texture was at realistic dimensions so you need to exaggerate. Another except are for thin things, like in some cases you might need to make window frames thicker than normal.

    Scaling up can be done with the scale tool. Some people prefer to simply model their stuff from the beginning with this 133% vertical scale in mind, but I personally find it weird and it throws me off so I do it after I finish the model. If you do it from the beginning then the scale tool isn't used, you'd just make things scaled up in the first place (e.g. 1m tall object will be made 1.33m tall... you can see why it throws me off, thirds are not fun to work with!). It will bring up a little window with the X, Y, and Z scale, which will all be 100. Then you just replace the Z's 100 with 133. After that you'll need to position the model properly on the Z axis again, because the tool will increase its Z dimension equally up and down, meaning the model will dip under Z = 0. After that you can texture it (I'd advise against doing textures beforehand, because the textures will obviously get stretched if you do it before you increase the scale).

    This was so cool.... It allowed me to fix the size of the garage with out messing around to much... Thanks....

    here is the update on the house...  added the addon for the garage attatchment resized the garage to meet the roof..

    and here is the update on the Large silos... As you can see from this pic the conveyor thingy on the top was completely redone.. I still need to add the supports for it.. The ladder was also completely  redone not as wide and i added a platform for the access hatch.. I also added another support ring which I think looks better... this also will fit on one 16mx16m block which I feel is plenty big enough I am also going to keep that base and add a concrete texture so it will be sitting on concrete instead of the ground... 

    any input or comments welcome.. And thanks to you all for your input on the bats in progress.. it was most helpful.

     

    the next update will be textured... I hope I can find a happy medium between the dark and light so this wont stand out so much like the prev one did..

    Looking good. :)

    I would suggest, however, to make the garage door shorter. It should be no taller than where the angle of its roof starts cause right now it would be rolling up and hitting the rafters. If you are looking at your garage straight on this is the part that holds up the roof and looks like this:

    ok so here are the updated silos i finished today no longer an eyesore.. textures toned down and smaller just slightly larger than the barn...

    just a test lot at the moment.. so its not finished yet... house is under construction. it is looking alot better and the car port in the back of the lot will also be getting a face lift... darken the texture and a resize as well.. and the roads need some work which i will do when i get all the props done....

    new props

    1. LG Silos

    re-textured using darker textures so it wont be so bright resized to fit better with the other buildings, fixed shadow issue, redid the conveyor thingy at the top, Better ladder smaller with a platform

           2. SM Silo moved pipe out from side smaller ladder and resized to be slightly smaller

           3. New Bee boxes varied colors and smaller 

           4. Version two of small barn with a rustic red color same as chicken coop 

           5. darker soybean plant got rid of the lime green color re-textured

    House is under construction.  

    these new improved props will be added to a new prop pack KCP_PropPack002

    Fences will also be redone as I found they were to tall so that will be in the next release as well.

    Oh and I did a conver 16m to feet and it came out to around 52 or 53 feet. Lol...

    The test lot above, the props and field textures are excellent.   I'm going to start a single large tile region for agriculture.  That way I can also be somewhat of a secondary beta tester.  Building agriculture will be a nice peaceful break from the urban stuff.   It will also give me an excuse to use the mostly unused farm animations.

    Thank you been alot of work but you guys have been a great help. 

    Oh and I think I finally figured out how to make the glass see through. I think I ran across it today. Going to try it out see if it works. Been trying to find that option for a week now. That would make the windows more realistic I think.

    yup as you can see i did figure out how to make the windows see through... the render looks much better when done this way... more realistic.. 

     

    I think by the time I am done with this I will have a very interesting disc.... for the lot...lol....

    finished product.. better night lighting as well...

    I just have to render and do an ingame test. 

    Hope this has been a help to other peeps the process of doing a bat. Although this is not a tutorial per say. 

    All the windows are now see through. Looks much better in the render more realistic. Redid the night lighting as well. Just lit up what I wanted to be lit up.

    On the back porch steps leading down to the ground level, your stair heights (the rise) are not the same.  The step rise starts off high and then gradually gets lower the further steps down.  People would trip and fall going up or coming down if you change the step rise drastically like that.

    Im not gonna be doing alot of work for a little while. I'll still be around for support of my work. Ill try to get the new props and farms uploaded soon. Ran into a slight snag.

    I would do some work on the textures on these, some are too flat, and, although, given the detail you go to, the models look good, they could look even better if as much detail could go to textures as well. DO you have any skills on image editing software? And if so, which one?

    I am currently using gimp but it has been so long since I have done graphics and I don't really remember how to do them.. I have been using a stock of textures I used years ago and i have been grabbing textures from the web....

    Stock textures are good for baseing your textures, but you should do some work on them before using it on the bat, if you want the best results. Using them as they are found on internet works for small objects, but the larger you get, the better is if you work on them, or make them from scratch entirely.

    There is an unfinished tutorial in omnibus written by me, regarding how to work textures. I may finish it or replace it by a video, which would be a good way to learn more and faster.

    I vote for finish it. I learn so much better from written material with pics than I do from a video.
