Asset editor crashing upon model import

So this issue has been recurring for me ever since launch.

In summary, the asset editor will flawlessly load any template but then crash as soon as you select a (new or old) model. For reference, here's a post on Reddit discussing the same issue.

I have gone as far as reinstalling the game, cleaning up the import folder, resetting the gamestate file and running the game without any mods. The crashes will still occur. What's strange to me is any of the models I select have either already been imported before, or will eventually load after three of four attempts, then fail again later on.

I think this problem has been discussed before but since we are so far beyond launch I was wondering if any of you have experience with (solving) this issue.

Mine crashes:

* Every time I try to import a model on a low residential 4x4 lot
* If I import something, then cancel that and try to import it again or a different one
* If I successfully import something, save it, then go to import another thing without first going back to the main menu and re-loading the editor

Basically, it makes the editor a pain in the posterior to use if you have more than one thing to import in a short time, and if you're trying to make low residential lots, good luck.

This didn't used to happen for me, not since launch. It just started happening more recently, after recent patches.

Have you guys found disabling other assets improves stability? I keep getting the feeling the editor just runs out of memory or something...

Assets definately seem to have an effect for me. I disable most (trees and props on) when I need to import, as well as most mods. I can also only import one thing - second attempt will crash it. UNLESS it's a prop. For some reason I can import props 5-7 times before a crash. I'm also one of those ppl who can't exit to main menu without a crash. :P

Same here. I can import one vanilla building, then if I try a second, it always crashes. I can import parks all day long though. And I've been getting the crash to desktop on exit for a long time now.

So I'm not the only one who can only do one thing at a time then :P

And I also can't exit to menu without a crash. That is, after I've subbed to a certain number or amount in filesize of assets. I don't know what that number or amount might be or if there's any pattern to it, other than that if always happens if I have a lot of stuff, and then if I unsub to even just a few things, or all things, it works again.

    This game is weird sometimes.

Has anyone tried using the editor in combination with the Loading Screen mod, to keep RAM usage and loading times in check: it has options to disable all loaded/enabled assets (the top two settings in the options panel)
I use those options to do compatibility tests for my mods (all mods are being loaded but no assets), which works well and reduces loading time with at least 75%, so perhaps it can be useful when using the asset editor as well...

I disable all buildings, no mods disabled. Doesn´t matter, for everyone it crashes after first import now.

It has to be related to the amount of subscribed mods. This happens to me as soon as I hit a certain limit, then usually I desub some stuff (I have organizied all my subs in collections, so I can desub pretty much half of all my subscribtions in one click) and everything is fine again.

Same with me. And I'm not sure it's even about anything like how much RAM. I doubled my RAM and it still kept happening at the same level.

Well then, guess we are all in the same boat. The crash after first import is also familiar to me. I'm gonna disable some of my assets, see if that makes any difference...

Maybe we should all try that then :P

I'm a newbie, so how exactly is that implemented?

To implement see post on Steam Community at  http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=466981085

But it didn't work for me!  Still crashing.  Next step copy and delete all local assets as per  https://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkylines/comments/3xn2aj/fix_for_crash_to_desktop_when_exiting_gameasset/
