Is there any way to look at the top downloaded files for simcity 4? I can't find a way to do it. The only thing the advanced search will let me do is look for a specific amount of views or more. I just want to see all the top downloads and mods for simcity 4.

Thanks

There is a "most downloaded" option to sort the STEX files. Just click on "sort by" and pick the right option.

I should say... this is not always the best way, because some old stuff might have been downloaded a billion times but been blown out of the water by more recent stuff.

Take your time, browse by date, look at the comments... you will find tons of awesome stuff here.

Hi BWest246,

Yes as mentioned, you can sort files by download count in each category:

Along with the other sort options, this is a good way to find the most popular files of all time.

As for more recently, on the STEX main page, the "Recently Popular" sidebar lists files viewed actively in the past 30 days.

Another option is to use Google if you have an idea of what you are looking for. For instance for my first downloads I was rather put off by the Dependencies List of some of the things I was considering. Especially since some dependencies in turn have their own dependencies. I've subsequently learned a lot and it really isn't as intimidating as I'd first perceived it. Anyhow, here's the Google search I used initially to get only stuff I could do one single download and test:

"no dependencies" site:https://community.simtropolis.com/files/

The part in quotes means I want that to appear exactly. Do not give me links with just the word no or the word dependencies. This is also useful if want a particular thing. For instance, say I want a prettier fire station than the default Maxis one then use:

"fire station" site:https://community.simtropolis.com/files/

I've not yet ascertained any way to keep SimCity (2013) or Cities:Skyline from popping up in the list, but those are usually obvious in the Google choices and not too many of them. When I see one I might be interested in I right click on the linky and tell my Firefox to Open in a New Tab. This let's me go look at it, download if I so chose, and close that tab when I'm done. My Google listings are still there without having to hit the back button and/or I can pop back and forth opening more new tabs if I want to read several before deciding which one(s) I want.

Try using a hyphen (-) and enclosing those terms in quotations. ;)

E.g.

"no dependencies" -"SimCity (2013)" -"Cities: Skylines" site:community.simtropolis.com/files/

This above example would search the STEX for uploads containing "no dependencies", without the phrases SimCity (2013) or Cities: Skylines.

Other words / terms can be excluded in the same way.

Google is indeed a very powerful tool, and can often be more precise than internal search engines. Especially with little tricks to tailor the results.

On this site, there's quite a comprehensive list of commands.

I say funny, because dependencies are the main reason I will not use a sc4 building.

So, does that mean you play plain vanilla? I ask cause I'm wondering if you will be entering the upcoming Vanilla Only Challenge. Discussion about it is here . (Tho that thread has morphed into explorations about other contest related things too. )

And, btw, I downloaded 182 things for SC4 which have no dependencies. There is a lot of content that meets your no dependencies criterion. ;)

Lol I sometimes I play Vanilla... but yeah there is some good stuff withut dependencies. And there is also some stuff with only a few dependencies too (like some who only require the nybt essentials, or some authors who have only one pack of dependencies they use for their work).

I just looked at this challenge... interesting !! :D
