The Cities Skylines British Challenge

Hi Guys,

I have set myself a challenge to recreate the most realistic looking British feeling city.

I have started with a small town and my first challenge was to create some realistic farms and fields.

I would appreciate your feedback on how this went..

Next I will move onto a small British town with some traditional British looking street layouts, moving onto a large City with the likes of typical British themes Football stadium and surrounding Terrace houses.

I look forward to your feedback and any other future ideas you would like to see..

Thanks.

Hey man.. I watched it, and I liked it. Now, things I would change are really simple. First I would add some live comments. If you don't feel like doing so it's fine.

Another thing that I noticed is that you have a city next to the farms, and that didn't look very british. I'm guessing that is not part of the project, but the title suggests that you are indeed starting from scratch, so you can see that may be a little confusing.

Other than that, I'm excited to see chapter 2!

Thank you CMDP, when you say live comments do you mean commentary? as in speaking or pop up text boxes?

The city next to the farms is British themed, but I will look to demolish it and start again as your right it doesnt flow with the title :) Thank you for your comments, look out for chapter two :)

Impressive work. Superb attention to detail. You might want to break up the grid a bit more. Many UK fields are very irregular shapes. Just a suggested improvement. Altogether an excellent post Mr.

Thank you Mutton, your right about the farm irregular shapes, I started doing this during this episode and I very much prefer them this way! Thank you for your kind comments!

Nailed it! I really enjoyed this one.. My only complain would be that I had to turn the volume really high to listen to you speak.. but hey, that's just nitpicking.. Again, I enjoyed it. I think the video is long enough so that you get caught into it, but you never get bored of it.

All in all, great job, and I'm definitely interested in following this series! Keep it up!

Very nice work, it does feel very British indeed! I like the idea of using the surface painter tool to create muddy parts in key areas of pastures, and the town looks great too! Now this is just my opinion of course but it might be a good idea to leave a bit of room for gardens at the rear of houses instead of a dense area of foliage? although it would be a lot of work... Anyway, I like what I'm seing!

Thank you for your kind feedback Lost gecko. Im glad you are liking it so far. This small town I wanted to create as a very small, tight fitting area in the farms and trees, my next larger town I will certainly be leaving more areas for bigger gardens and open spaces. Good idea :)!

Nice update! I think the british assets for industry look really nice.. is there a way to maybe mix them within the actual town? Or is that something that is not commonly seen?

Shaping up nicely. Really great attention to detail which reinforces the realism. Your style of play is very similar to my own. My cities tend to be mainly influenced by UK communities large and small although I do like to throw a bit of US urban into the mix. I also tend to avoid the crazy over engineered road networks so beloved by our American cousins! Those bonkers spaghetti interchanges that could easily be replaced by a roundabout do make me chuckle! It's nice to focus on a more rural district rather than a giant metropolis- although they are amazing fun to build. I love the aerial shots of the British landscape- the small patchwork of irregular fields trees and hedges, a collection of traditional stone built farms and villages and the network of twisting country roads. Look forward to the next update mate

They are really nice and very realistic to what I am aiming to create. We do have areas in towns that are industrial, but not often next to houses, if that makes sense. It will be something I will show in a future video for sure!

Thanks Mutton. I am glad we share the same ideas in terms of our designs. I too just love the british designs, roundabouts are my love!! Not a fan either with the over engineered roads, I prefer simple and plain solutions. I like the stone built farms and villages alot, nothing better then twisting country roads, through very quiet locations leading to the next small town or village! thats what i have in mind. I appreciate your comments, I will get another video up next week :)

Very good! I like it.. I'm not even a golf expert, in fact I have no idea of how gold courses are, yet yours seems so natural and realistic.. Again, fantastic update, I really enjoyed it!

Thanks Cmdp. The next episode has been recorded already and this is the final part of the town expansion, followed by some detailing. I need to spend a good episode on detailing the high steet, so keep watching :)

I liked the video, and I think the centre looks great! BUT! there is something that I found odd.. at some point, you were adding the tiles, and you did so to the car parking area, which I honestly found odd.. was that on purpose or is it something that slipped away?
