I'm kinda new to the traffic simulator

I was wondering how do you make traffic congestions with it like the ones in big cities like LA or Atlanta.

Traffic congestion is already in the game...

Or you mean see the game render a long line of stopped cars? I think those are related to automata settigns modding, nto traffic simulator. I think we have some mods here on STEX that set automata to never disappear, except buses (that insist in disappearing when they reach a bus station)

That might be difficult to emulate with automata, they are only intended to provide a visual representation of traffic flow. So more than likely you'd see lots of cars, but they wouldn't be in a jam, rather there would be the occasional accident to infer congested roads to the player.

If you wanted to make such a thing, you could offset some car props and place them on lots that sit next to the road?

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

The way I see it, you can do one of two things:

  1. You can create a large city such that thousands of sims are commuting to work over certain roads and the traffic simulator create actual traffic jams,or
  2. Use a traffic generator to create "eye-candy" traffic jams. As stated above, the vehicles you see are only representations of the traffic. What these lots do is enable that effect without actually having to have sims commuting. Many users use this (for example) if they have a city made from mostly plopable buildings.

Looking for a prop or texture? The SC4 Prop & Texture Catalog might help! View online here.

I made a unintentional test here.

I re-installed NAM after cleaning my folder of plug-ins (they were making my mod get buggy), I changed the automata options, to "radical"

then I installed this mod:

Now the result is that even a tiny city with only 4 farms, 2 residential city blocks and 1 commercial city block there is already lots of cars, and some traffic jams.
