I been trying to upload my latest train station and keep getting a failed error. The file is only just over 2mb. rar file. Is there something going on with STEX uploading lately?

I believe one of the rules is that our standard archive format is *.zip.  I don't have problems with *.rar, but I don't believe Windows can handle them without additional software.  My Swiss Army Knife (Linux) can usually handle anything by way of archive formats.

Just as a matter of interest, is a *.rar sufficiently smaller than a *.zip to matter?  We are not really dealing with large files here.

In the case of a single BAT, I can see your point, I'd recommend using a .zip file to avoid complaints frankly.

That said, when you've a 80MB texture mod that 7zip can turn into 11MB compared to a 30MB zip file, some of the better compression formats are very useful. The one used for the NAM installer packs over 1GB files into around 225MB. That's a lot of saved bandwidth costs in reality.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

Hi Mr_Maison,

I've just tested with a small zip, and it managed to upload successfully. So the system should still be accepting files.

RAR files are supported, and we do technically allow them for STEX uploads. But as suggested, maybe see if a zip makes any difference...

If not, could you please tell us:

  • Which category you tried to upload into.
  • Browser used.
  • Details of the error (e.g. error codes / does it show when uploading the file, or trying to submit?).

Thanks.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I just tried again with a zip file. The error code I get is -200 My internet situation is not normal nowadays and I'm wondering if tethering from my tablet is playing a role. I will try again later today when I get to where I have access to wifi with a laptop.

I get the same thing.  A -200 error code as well.  I am using a .zip file that is around 6.8MB in size.  It will accept the .jpeg pictures for the images that I am including, but says "upload failed" under the progress bar once it hits the 100% mark.  The browser is Chrome.

UPDATE: Another attempt this afternoon only lets me get so far as selecting the STEX upload category, before giving me a 500 Internal Server Error, a similar message that I was getting last night when attempting to post in the forums.  This afternoon, I can't even get so far as selecting the .zip to upload.

(Double positng because the site told me that this comment can't be edited because it's been moved, deleted, or is too old...very odd...)

Try it from Firefox.  Also, seems to have been some fixing overnight.
