Ah, I understand. I saw the slight discoloration at some of the intersections in some of the screenshots. Now I know what that is.

I may pull the trigger and get it. Along with NExt and your American road signs, it makes the city feel much more American.

Thanks, and @Darf you may have your thread back now. :P

@Matthias King I just happend to read your question about Roads United: North America, I'll take the liberty to chip in my 2 cents since I'm the creator of the texture pack:

Judazzz gave a good explanation already, The node textures are those that are used at an intersection. They also include the crosswalks and pretty much exist to blend the normal segment texture and the bare road pavement texture which you see in the middle of an intersection. I did my best to get all the textures working properly, but at some point it got pretty confusing to me and yes, there are some nodes that don't have proper crosswalks beacuse I tried to change those and it didn't work as I thought it would. I didn't have the patience to fiddle around with the textures any more after two weeks and I haven't really done any big updates to fix those issues since release. Maybe I should do so some time soon ;)

And sorry again to @Darf, your thread is now actually yours again :D Now that I'm here I'll take the opportunity to say that your buildings are some of the finest for CSL. At some point I'll be ready to use them again - following a recent mod cleanout I had to do because my game wasn't able to handle all the good stuff!

Thanks @Kaschperl I'll more than likely be getting the Roads United pack and I look forward to future updates. I wish you luck figuring them out. I'm sure GC_Vos and the guys working on NExt could probably offer you some insight into that.

Here's a little something I've been working on: The Brooks building in Chicago.  This started a bit as a modelling experiment, to see how detailed I could make this building with criss crossing faces. This seemed like the perfect building for it. Due to how long the faces are I can get away with putting a ton of detail in. I think the quality is astounding for just 3k faces and a 2048x512 texture. This is going to be a high commercial corner.

Ooh, this looks super nice. Right up the alley of what I've been wanting to see. I'm anxious to see it hit the workshop.

I like it.. are you going to add the shops too?

Kind of depends on the texturespace I have left. I also had to shorten the building by 12 meters ( 2 panels) to make it growable.

Man that looks mind-blowing, as always!
If the incorrect size bugs you, you could consider creating a seamless 2x4 'extension'. Those two pieces would give the player total freedom to create any configuration they want (a 2x4 filler building, the real life 6x4, a full block - like 8x4 or 10x4 - with two corner sections [since the building seems symmetric, there's no need for mirrored corner buildings], etc.) And with texture sharing the full load of those two could be pretty minimal as well...

That sounds like an excellent idea. @Darf I'm assuming that's doable? If you wanted to, that is.

Maybe we could have a RICO version with the shops? Make it a commercial building maybe? I understand that making it growable forces you to make the change, but, we dont need the exact number of stores.. maybe add some.. like a McDonalds, and something else.. you know, kind of what we get in those downtown area buildings.

Or add in-game stores. Put a Big Bite in there, or a Sherlock's Coffee, or a Yakisoba Noodle. That would be fun.

Thats awesome, very detailed, especially for this low amount of faces, also great texturework as allways. I love these little ventilationshafts on the right side, they add a lot authenticity

I just feel like you could strech the building on the Z axis by about 10-15% (I know your model has one story less, still it feels like the hight should be streched a bit, if you compare it to this shot):

Yeah, I realised I forgot 1 floor when I was mostly done with UV mapping. I decided to leave it as it was. I'll have a look at how it looks stretched. Except for the first floor I went with a floor height of 3,5m, which seemed pretty accurate. As for a 2x4 version, though that wouldn't be so hard to do, there are no 2x4 high comm lvl 1 and 2, so i would have to make it RICO, but than again I want to make this growable.

For shops, I want to add atleast Giordino's as it's a typical Chicago place. ;) Probably will add a Dunkin Donuts as well.

I'm pretty sure there is a vanilla 2x3/2x4 HC L1 building, and in any case there is a whole bunch of L1 2x{x} UK High Street assets by Rik4000, and Attercap's Madison Building is 2x3/2x4 HC L2 - the reason I'm quite sure about this is that your 2x3 HC L3 495 Broadway New Era building spawns in my city without outside (ie. mayoral) interference...
Having said that, it may be that Workshop content is required to have 2x{x} HC L3 grow naturally. And besides that, obviously it's up to you :)

Yeah, but those aren't corners, ofcourse I could make it into a regular. Didn't think of that. ;)

Yeah, with that 2x4 I meant a 'normal' wall-to-wall asset, basically the outer 2 cells on either side of your corner building - I could have been clearer about that :)

Looks amazing. I can't wait to see it in my city.

    What's next?

If you need ideas, I have something that I think is right up your alley.

Another great building to add to my district themes. Thanks. I really like the detail at such a low tri count. And yes we do need more buildings of this height for our skylines.

I'm always open to suggestions, I'm looking for a building which could serve as a 3x? commercial lvl 3 to serve as an alternative for my Candler Building. It kind of has become the Wrenn Insurance of C:S. Speaking of which.. it's become a good candidate for a corner or a 3x4. What do you think?

Ohhh, the Brooks Building is nice! It is right across the street from Willis Tower, too, so if you're looking for a place to grow it... Wink wink nudge nudge ;)

It was the reason I stumbled upon it, was looking at a few details of your model against the real and I noticed The Brooks building. :thumb:

Wrenn Insurance's real life counterpart is the Shell Building in Frisco. I'd love to see this building make an appearance in C:SL, but do you think it'll fit on a 3x? plot?

Personally I wouldn't mind a few more buildings similar to your latest upload (fantastic btw, that texture work in ridiculous!), so 8-12 story early-1900's buildings: NYC and Chicago alone probably have thousands of examples. Eye-catchers are a-plenty in the Workshop, however, the bread and butter for an authentic US city is still spread quite thinly.
A few examples (probably too big, but it's just meant as a reference):
    - Chicago Building
    - Home Insurance Building
    - New York Times Building (41 Park Row)
    - Auditorium Building
Carson, Pirie, Scott and Company Building
    - Hotel Chelsea
    - or more eye-catching: American Radiator Building

    Okay, I'll stop now.... :D

    Cool detailed building. Thanks!

Btw across the road there is another beautiful building, 226 W Jackson Blvd. And simple enough for texturing.

I'm looking at the Shell Building now. I really like that. It's a great historical Cali building.

I don't think it would fit a 3x3 plot. I'm looking at it from the top down, and the top measures about 27 meters square, and the base is a little wider. It would probably fit a 4x4 very well. The main tower anyway. The secondary building next to it would have to be created separately. Though I certainly wouldn't mind.

Those buildings you listed are the kinds I'd like to see more of. Like you said, the tall and eye-catching skyscrapers are nice, but I'd rather see more of these kinds of buildings. I'm building a SoCal city, and there are only so many of the big skyscrapers. It's not like Manhattan where it's just an entire island of high-rises. I need more of these nice low-rise and mid-rise buildings. Personally, I don't like using the same three or four over and over.

The tower is 26x26m, I could either scale it a bit and make a back building or cut a bit of the lower sides and make it a corner. Corner is a better idea I think.

Didn't someone here recently release a tool to capture the dimensions of real-world buildings? You could use that to find out for sure.
