First one is incredible, really looks like a south american city. You should make a city journal.

It had been some time since I actually played on my "real" map for aesthetics so I have tried to make a castle with my assets (just for this it was well worth it). It is the NotNamedYet coastal castle, somewhere in Europe. It occupies a strategic point along the estuary, and is quite bit inspired by Château-Gaillard, France. I think the market tower works well as a keep but I would like to make one or two of my owns. Once again I'm not building a city in this game but hey, maybe one day...

The wall going down to the water reaches a tower that defends the estuary, much like in Château-Gaillard

Just started playing again since way back in the begiining. Some unbelievable mods and assets available now.

Made a little town just getting my feet wet again... the flora by creators like Mr. Maison and others is a game changer, I can't even look at another default Skylines tree.

WOW!! Making trees is one thing, what we do with them is another. Those images are so pleasing to the eye. Great detailing! And I want to give a shout to Breeze and others in the tree business too :D

Personally I don't mind the vanilla Alder tree (the pretty lush, tall, light-green one), but that is a seriously good idea! Like a little interface that allows you to pick a custom tree from a drop-down, which will then replace one of the vanilla ones (so each vanilla tree type will be replaced by a user-selected custom tree asset - or even better, let the player choose which types to replace and which ones to keep). I doubt the logic would be much different from the code that replaces the vanilla road sign props with Americanized ones...

@zimmie - gorgeous screenshots, man! Doesn't look like a city built by someone who just got back in the game!
One question: what is that highway sound barrier in that 3rd screenshot. I gots to have it! ;)

I made that a long time ago, it was my first mod: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=423934526

I created it because the Alder tree looks out of place on tropical/desert maps.

It just misses a GUI and the code is not really... professional. I'm not sure if it still works.

----

I think the most user-friendly option would be a dropdown in the new/load game panel, right next to the map theme dropdown. With that dropdown, you could apply a pre-defined tree controller (downloaded from the workshop).

Custom tree controllers could also be bundled with maps or map themes. So many possibilities :)

A tree controller creation GUI (similar to the Building Themes Manager) with live editing would be the ultimate tool. It's just really hard because there are so many options to consider.

Thanks. Yeah, Breeze, yourself and a little from Ston3D, TOD and TPB in my collection. Wonderful work, blows away the original stuff.

Thanks. That's a great idea with the trees.  Where any instance of a particular default tree is replaced everywhere in the game with a custom tree of your choice. Nice. At this point I would settle for just a complete tree remover... remove them all and with tree and prop anarchy, prop line tool and all those just have complete control and do it all yourself.

The walls are called "Large Sound Barrier"

That would be nice. You can't even delete them manually to my knowledge.

Thanks for the link to that sound barrier!

Changing trees 'embedded' in assets as props once in-game isn't possible, as far as I know. However, during the loading process it should be possible to loop through all plants/trees, and replace the ones you have targeted for extinction with a different plant/tree of your choosing (which can be done through id or name, and would include every instance of that particular plant or tree, regardless of whether they have bene plopped by the map creator or player, or embedded in an asset as a prop). I think it should even be possible to trigger that logic in-game (thus changing tree types on the fly without having to reload), but I don't know how much of a performance hit that would have (once replaced it's all systems go, but the replacing may be quite strenuous if we're talking about 1 million trees).

Excuse me for being lazy and copy-pasting this straight from Reddit, but here's some information about the Workshop goodies I've used:

- Visual mods: Dynamic Resolution (set to 200%), LoD Toggler (enabled), Softer Shadows, Ambient Occlusion, Ultimate Eyecandy (tonemapping disabled);
- The LUT I used is Natural Color, the map The Colossal Hillside by OWL;
- Textures: I use Avanya's fantastic Wet Temperate theme for the included rock texture, all others are custom (overridden with Terrain Texture Replacer mod) and can be downloaded here;
- Assets used: pretty much anything Americana from the Workshop, from buildings to road textures and road signs and vehicles. A list of most of the assets I used can be found here.

@Mr_Maison - damn dude, I had to look twice to confirm it wasn't a photo (okay, I admit I recognized the lovely house by False Lucidity, but the flora and lighting look breathtaking!)
If anything, it's the flat grass texture that gives it away, but other than that, this is pretty much 3D action game graphics quality.

A little more from my small town USA I'm working on. Unfinished shopping area and an apartment complex. More landscaping to do at the apartments and in the parking lots.
