Hey guys!!

I recently got back into sc4, and with everything in place and order I really want to get into batting (did some before just for fun)
I will post all my future work here, and I hope that it may be uploaded to the stex one day and furthermore, that you like it ;)

Anywho. Here is my first works..

This is one of my quite old 3D models called "The Radisson SAS hotel" and is based of the SAS hotel in Copenhagen

as you see, this model still needs some work on the roof, and maybe some details on the cladding so that it will look more realistic, but nothing that cannot be fixed! :)

and last, this is a model by a friend and great 3D mentor who is currently making a HUGE 3D project where this model is involved. The building is called "the Cube"

All I need now, is to make the last details and make both buildings work with BAT and Lot Editor, which has become quite a battle of mine!

Any thoughts on the desings? :)

It's always nice to see new BATers jump into the fold! There are many helpful BATers around who can offer better suggestions than I, but my only comment would be to show some renders from the SC4 viewpoint...
I think you are off to a great start though!

Yikes, some awesome BATs in the works here! Definitely getting my psyched :D Personally, I love the sleek simplistic look on the facade. It just looks so good.

I absolutely love the look of The Cube. Modern yet attractive. With the right textures, particularly the glazing, that will look stunning.

Thanks alot! I will try doing so from now on ;)

okay, so I seem to have some problems with the whole rendering and lotting phase. Everytime I render in Gmax the Cube's glass looks super weird and non-existing while the floors of the SAS building just gets removed for some reason.

I have no Idea how to make this stop :( I've read somewhere that there is a B.A.T version for newer versions of 3ds Max though. Anyone know where that is, or have any guidence concerning the B.A.T problem in genral?

    Looking forward to seeing it.

We need a lot more of these buildings IMO in order to have a realistic look for SC4 cities in the 21st century.

    ^^ Exactly what I thought!!

    ---------------------------------------

So I finaly got myself together and got 3DS Max 2015!
right after the installation was done, I tried opening the SAS hotel in 3DS and it worked perfectly.

I then exported it as a 3ds file and opened it in Gmax, hopening that the stop in 3ds max would have some kind of effect on the model.

    But it didnt...

this is still what I get after exporting with BAT and having it in sc4 lot:

Does anyone know how to handle this problem?? - The problem ofc. being the missing floors and missing windows

If you are modelling in Max, why arenn't you rendering in Max using BAT4MAX?

Just some simple guess: Do you use planes or extruded rectangles for the windows? In case you do make sure you have the right side facing the camera as there is only one side visible

HAHAHA, would never have guessed that "turning" the faces would actually have worked! Thanks alot man! :D

If you are modelling in Max, why arenn't you rendering in Max using BAT4MAX?

I was never able to find a version of the BAT for 3ds max, so I just kept rendering in the Original bat :P

(and I am actually modelling in SKP)

Anyway, I finally got to do some actual work on the SAS hotel, as I wanted that to be the test model.

Now, I have fixed the problems with the deleted areas, made a better roof for it and also gotten to work abit with 3ds max.

However, it seems that I cannot use reflections in a way so that they actually look like reflections. Can anyone help on that matter?

You can find BAT4Max by SimFox the 3ds max version of the BAT. This will help tremendously because I'm pretty sure that the gmax renderer does not include raytracing, which is necessary for true reflections. 3ds max, however, allows for reflections, which may help you with your problem. I recommend for reflective glass.

Well, I actually found that thread after seeing the first comment about it. But I can only find versions until 2012, and I use 2015?

But thanks alot for the Reflection Tutorial! I hope it will turn out awesome!! :D

Again, a screenshot would be very helpful. I don't know how you would like them to look like and what they actually look like right now.

(it decided to remove some of the textures including the top one.)

First, BAT4Max should work for 2015, I don't know if it does but just try it out. To install, make sure you run the setup as an Admin.

About the glass: There are two points I have to point out. First, I have to know whether you use a ground map. Because that's what the programme will use to reflect. Second, it looks like you have opacity turned on to mearly 80% or so. Opacity is fine as long as you have something behind your windows (like floors) and as long as there is something to be reflected.

About the tutorial, it is necessary to use single rectangles for each window. I would highly recommend you to do oso as you can use different maps for each window (also, I have never tried out if the way of reflection is influenced by the way of creating windows, either rectangles or one, single plane=
