I have so many open unnamed cites in a region, just a thought what you can name a city?

Or you can use one from literature, even fiction.  I am rather widely read because I've been around and not just around mummy.  I use a lot of fictional names, and sometimes I just make one up.  A few suggestions:

Trasimere

Noldor

Osnome

Chlora

Upper, Lower, and Middle Slaughter (real places)

Barsoom

Jasoom

Kaol

Abergivenny (real place)

Iqaluit (real place)

or just use Google maps of some abstract place like Outer Mongolia.

Look at your terrain and name some of the cities after prominent features. For example:

Riverwoods

Chapel Hill

Forest Bay.

Let your creative juices flow.  Also, in addition to Magneto's suggestion, you can get out a map of a large city and use the suburb names.  Or you can google List of Cities of _____ (you fill in the blank).  The possibilities are seemingly infinite.

Oh, and you can also name cities after favourite characters in stories.  Examples:

Cunegonda

Candide

Sparafucile

Gilda

Rigoletto's Leap

Mantua

Norma

Rhadames

There are lots of names around, you just have to decide to see them.

Pteranodon just autocorrected Pterodactyl, how about that?

Autocorrect brings up some good obscure words. Just deform them a little.

Snarky can become Snarville, Rottweiler can become Rottenviel etc.

Sometimes an irrational crazy name pops up in my mind and I use it.Sometimes I use names of locations from the bible based on how my city looks like.:)

I like to look at an area on Earth that resembles the kind of city I'm making.  For example I was trying to do a Pacific Northwest theme in part of my region, so I opened Google Maps and found cool names from that area.

Yeah... or, as the great F.M. Piave would say:

Qual piuma al vento,
Muta d'accento - e di pensiero.

Sempre un amabile,
Leggiadro viso,
In pianto o in riso, - è menzognero.

One of my favorites, the one I made a CJ on, is "The Island of St. Marteen" not to be confused with the real Island of St. Maarten.

Rigoletto is one of my favourites.  I really like Italian opera from Claudio Monteverdi forward.  While I am usually not in favour of pot boilers, I really like Aïda.  My favourite Verdi is Nabucco.  At the time of the Austrian occupancy this caused quite a stir.  "Viva VERDI" {Vittorio Emanuale Re D'Italia}.  Pretty stark example in Tosca.

It all depends on the type of region you have. Brunswick is a nice name for a suburban region!

I use news of apartments I pass while I drive, there are some cool potential city sounding names, Whispering Hills, Harbor Heights, Royal Arms, Deer Lake, etc.

HaHa.  Deer Lake, N.L. is where my daughter lives.

If you want to have some city names, look at maps of New England states and Maritime provinces.  There are some real dillies like Rear of Ball's Creek, N.S. and Fogo, N.L.

I use family and friends names. In one of my regions, I named my regional highway after my wife's middle name. She was flattered. But I do have trouble in this department once I run out of people I know. I will use some tips from here. I think my biggest problem is when I get picky when naming something important. I have a mountain in a region I made 2 years ago and still didn't settle on a name. I'm waiting for one that "feels" and "sounds" right.

Being in sunny Italy, you can always use neat names like Bari and Stracciatella.

Look around, scroll through a book, where you've been or your going… it's easy to come up with good one's if you let your mind wander.
