    Testing, trying things...  :kitty:

I should give the solar panels something to reflect... even at night they should not be pitch black (and I'm not even sure they'll stay in place. I don't like them.)

It's looking pretty good there Cool Z and you are going down the same route I used to learn something of the BAT, PIM and LE. Pay attention to what SimCoug tells you and you should do just fine. iLive's Reader can be a bit intimidating but not too bad once you begin to use and understand it. My best advice is to back-up all the SimCity.dat files (there's 10 or 11 of these) because eventually you will get into fooling with these too.

    Good Luck

    Thank you guys !!

Right runamuck, SimCoug sounds like good advice, and his "do not bat the whole lot" politics made me understand one more reason why you shouldn't. Because your lot won't follow the terrain then and its borders won't fit. A building can be built on a slope, you then see a bit of the foundations. But a terrain follows the lanscape.

I'll try to do that on mine, but it's hard because we have to do the LODs manually. I think the house you're doing now you will not have this problem, I'll do a little church later just to test it too.

Funny you want to go smaller too, because I want to go even smaller. I'm starting a small tiny house, much smaller than that one, just for testing purposes. mdr1.gif

I said I'd go smaller for my first attempts at exporting and lotting...

    Here we go :

(And I learned lots of stuff about editable polys and about texture placement).

    It's looking cute *-*

    Thanks :) :) :)

Ok here's the night preview at Z5

    695450RenderBat0003Night.jpg

It looks damn tiny (the house is 6m by 3m, it's more like a cabin ;) )

Now let's go to next stage...

Awesome!  Great textures - A few different version of this would make an excellent prop family.  Unfortunately R$ low density buildings are severely lacking on the STEX.

EDIT:  Woops, I just posted before I saw your next post.  I'm sure somebody can suggest a rendering fix for that issue.

Yup I saw that low R$ was not what people prefer to upload... and it's easy to understand, a big tall building stands out, a shabby house doesn't ;)

Well... it's funy that only Z5 was affected. Maybe it's just a problem with the LODs not set correctly, I will try again tomorrow.

Check Jason's Mega FAQ - I think this export problem is covered there. You're definitely not the first to experience it, and the problem has a solution. :)

Are you using 3ds max 2014 by any chance?  If you are the gamma issues can be resolved by an updated script i wrote.  You can download it here.

Nope, I'm using 2011... but I'll consider using 2014 if there is no problem with it and bat4max (other than gamma correction... I already have the problem so fewer problems is always better ;) )

I switched to Max 2014 after i corrected the gamma since I can't stand using the older viewports after using Nitrous for 2014.  The interface just feels much better as well.

    I'll give it a try then, thanks a lot :) :)

Ok I managed to render correctly and here we are, ingame pics at Zoom5

    371820BAT0003ingame.jpg

When I first exported from 3dsmax, I still had the bat/gmax running. I think the file was marked as open and it prevented bat4max from correctly writing it.

Now I have to work on lods and on fondations.

Wow, that cabin is looking great! The automatic foundation shows that the LODs are a tad wide, but you said you are going to work on them. So you are planning to add a custom foundation, too? I'd appreciate that very much! Slope-conforming houses are a great thing to have. :)

After my first atempts at using foundations I'm not 100% sure I'll use them or make non-flat lots. Because they look like crap

SC takes the highest point of the lot as the altitude the bat must be, you end up with little houses built high as water towers, not very realistic nor very good looking ;)

Anyway... first attemps at making a lot for my house and something isn't right with the lot editor again

Edit : or is that texture I chose a "random field" texture ?

Edit again : Yup it is a randomized texture
