Trouble Downloading Certain Mods

This is giving me a headache. But here goes.

There have been several mods I've seen that I go to download, then discover that I need dependencies. Ok, I'm not a fan of those, but I get them. Then, even when I have them all properly installed, I download this guy and I find its not in the game. If it's specific, I'd like to show what they were.

There was one of the Vatican. Which also had other European Cathedrals, which I got all of them. I also got the Hungarian Parliament, same deal. Here on Simtropolis, I got the 2 church packs, and other buildings to be named later, with dependencies that seemingly don't work.

A few mods constitute achievement rewards. For example, you might have not have a certain size of city or regional population. I seem to recall that the Hungarian Parliament is one of those. If you read the description of the item you downloaded you should find any requirements listed.

Sounds like it's the SimGoober church packs, which are also rewards to be achieved before you can use (see) them.

 

If you have the Extra Cheat dll mod installed, you can use the command "you don't deserve it", all the rewards will be available to you before actually achieving them in-game. Or you can also use the "lot plop" command to plop any of the churches you want as well.

I used the code "You don't deserve it" for all rewards. All the other rewards I got worked, but not those.

Then something must not be installed correctly. Just tested it to make sure it still worked when I did it, and it worked for me. Did you just try and type it, or did you select it from the drop down list?

First off, I can't see the dependency list on the page for either Church pack.  I know I have all the BSC texture packs for most of the stuff by the Legendary SimGoober, and I also was unable to download the National History Museum, Sim Swim/Skate Areas, and this mod not by SimGoober.

If you have the Extra Cheats dll mod installed correctly, when you press Ctrl+X on your keyboard, a small blue pop up window will appear in the upper left hand corner of your screen. If you 'Right click' inside the box, you should get another pop up window like a drop down menu with the list of the Extra Cheat options you can choose. Near the bottom of the list is where you'll find the 'You don't deserve it' option. Select it, then press 'Enter'. All your rewards should be made available (as long as custom content is also installed properly w/ all dependencies). 

 

Do be aware that sometimes the EC mod does not seem to work correctly. You know when it's not working right, if when you right click in the box and the menu list does not appear. That is the tell tale sign that the mod didn't load correctly (i'm assuming). You'll have to exit SC4 and reboot it. That usually works for me. 

 

Though most will advise against this, I keep my EC mod file in the Programs plugin folder, not the Doc plugin one that stores 99% of custom content. I find it's more stable in that location and doesn't stop working as frequent.

The image is the SG Churches made available in the menu after I entered the cheat code. Just wanted to show you that it does work if done correctly.

There aren't any posted. You have to open the Read-Me. which is usually automatic when using SG's installers. All the dependencies are listed in the Read-Me with the links. Sometimes the links don't work, just do a search for the dependency name and you'll usually find it pretty easy.

Not sure about the Museum or Swim Areas, but if you read the description for the St. Peters building, it too is also a reward that won't show up till you complete the criteria.

 

Which in this case is:

"This is a reward that will be offered to you when you have a regional population of 60,000, a Mayor Rating of at least 50 and have placed Chartres Cathedral, Notre Dame de Paris and Salzburg Cathedral - all by debussyman - in your city."

OK, first off, thanks for the help. 

 

I know of the cheat code bar with CntrlX and have used the cheats plugin, only for it to not work. 

 

I have also gotten mods that use the same dependencies as other that did not work, almost like it's a 50-50. 

 

As for St Peter's Basilica, I downloaded Salzburg, but that didn't work either.

By that I mean how does it work? I had some things that ran on the same dependencies and they work the same.

some plugins are rewards, like the  St. Peters building for it to be available to plop in your city, your city has to be in a region with a population of 60,000 people, the city itself must have a Mayor rating of at least 50 or more and you also have to have plopped another debussyman cathedral in your city, and that cathedral probably also had conditions that had to be met before you could plop it, its not about having the dependencies or downloading and having something in your plugins your city has to, as glazert stated meet certain preconditions ... they work the same way as Maxis rewards ie the Maxis private schools for example

Ok, I got the Chartes Cathedral ( by debussyman) successfully, without having anything wrong with getting it, and placed it in a city with a region of 600000 with a mayor rating of over 100, so I assume you need other things not listed.

As for the other buildings, I have the dependencies listed, so I thing it's not installed properly, or I'm just doing something wrong. Same goes for the SimFox Day and Night Modd. That has the same issues.

How long did you let the city run for after you plopped the Chartres Cathedral, as these rewards will not show up immediately, sometimes it can take a few city years before you get the option to plop a reward

Looking at the Vatican's decription, it seems like Notre Dame and Salzburg are needed, except you can't get Notre Dame anymore on the LEX.

Mr Saturn, I'd suggest you load it up in an editor and strip the reward qualifications out of it.  I think you can probably use PIM-X and just change it to a standard landmark.

I think that with the other mods it was that there are dependencies that I am not aware of. It's late here on the East Coast, so I'll check tomorrow.

The Notre Dame didn't install. I think either the BSC Essentials or the other isn't installed properly, because I've had trouble with either one or the other.

I downloaded the Notre Dame file from SimCityKurier as a test, downloaded OK, unzipped it and ran the installer program inside the zip, the installer is in german, but if you just click on the blue highlighted boxes it installs OK.

 

Ignored the Win7 64-bit error message which always pops up on my computer and checked both files (MODEL and LOT) were in my plugins folder again no problems, didn't download either of the two dependencies as the SimCityKurier files are both quite old and there are more recent versions in the LEX, which I already have in my plugins folder

The installer does not download anything.

 

Almost all Simcity 4 mod installers are an old school attempt by modders to help control installation.  The BSC folks required it for some reason back in the day.  The EXE file is simply a self extracting zip essentially....trying to force you to install in a specific place.

 

If you downloaded the zip file, unzipped it, and clicked through the exe's steps...you installed it.  

 

All they do now is triple to quadruple the installation time for people who have long since gone to a more controlled plugins folder and confuse new people.

Then something's not properly installed here. There are a bunch I files I have that are BSC files that don't work. But as for Notre Dame, I was unable to make it through the EXE's steps. That seems to contradict the 3rd line,

 

If you downloaded the zip file, unzipped it, and clicked through the exe's steps...you installed it.
