I saw some good comics at The Boston Comedy Club(which was actually in New York City) back around 2005. Jim Norton, Jonah Friedlander and 2 others whose names escape me. Good times. That was my only time ever seeing stand up in person. Jim Norton was pretty funny.

I'll have been here 5 years myself come the end of July.

Browsing the first few pages of the original thread, there are a lot of faces in there I haven't seen in a while. I'm looking for where I challenged Chptrk to a post count race. If I recall, Larks beat us both.

86. Upon hitting 10,000, a chorus of angels is heard as Dirk descends from the clouds aboard a glowing chariot. We all bow down and praise His Name as he passes out gifts of pie and cookies. Fireworks detonate, crowds cheer in the streets, armies and fighters all over the world lay down their arms, and a new era of peace is ushered in.

Yeah... we never did get around to doing that.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I just marked 5 years here myself too, thought I lurked in my early days. I think I was stuck at 30 posts for my first 3 years here. Only in 2011 did I really start posting.

It's always interesting stumbling threads I used to lurk... and how different names come up. I still look at some of the (now) defunct CJs I used to lurk.

I also recall not wanting to join into your race but chptrk kept nudging me to do it, it took awhile until I finally accepted the challenge but look what happened when he finally convinced me :P

I saw Iron Man 3 today. It was good overall, but it was one of those movies becomes annoying to watch at times because there are parts that make you want to reach into the screen and strangle the bad guy because he crosses the wrong lines with what he does.

Then that's the sign of a good movie :P

I saw it yesterday, and I really liked how they made The Mandarin so evil. A good villain makes you yell at the screen and want to strangle them, and the part where he... oh, spoilers:

...the part where he shoots - or rather, pretends to shoot - the innocent man really got to me. That's when I felt like ripping his head off. But in the end, I liked how he ended up being only a wacky actor hired to be a cover-up. I thought the creators did a good job getting the audience to care with the horrendously evil actions of The Mandarin, while at the same time building up Aldrich Killian as the main enemy in the background.

Overall, I thought the movie was entertaining and thrilling. It started as if it was going to take a different story route than the others, but then fell back into the regular 'splosions and pew-pew action. But that's okay, because it's Marvel, and 'splosions and pew-pews are fun. It's my favorite out of the three Iron Man movies.

Fundamentally, I have to disagree with this. I do not enjoy being pissed off and a movie becomes less enjoyable to watch when any character in it, good or evil, pisses me off.

    Things like

the villain kidnapping the hero's girlfriend and holding her hostage while slowly killing her

are just not fun to watch.

Ah well, I usually prefer comedies anyway. Action movies are usually not my cup of tea. I just make exceptions in some special cases, superhero movies being one of them.

Action is the best type of movies, infact Bruce Willis or Steven Segal = automatic rental or buy for me.

I generally want my villains to be believable - to have understandable motivations and reasons for what they are doing.

I just want to be satisfied with how they die, motives don't really matter to be as long as their death is entertaining :P

Screen writers are very often looking for a reason to make the audience despise the antagonist. Sometimes, this is done subtly but other times it's done quite lazily. I haven't seen Iron Man 3 yet. I really don't like watching movies in theaters. I can wait for that one to hit dvd.

Don't worry Craig, there's always next time...

...in about 2 to 3 years or so I guess.

The time taken for thread 1 was 439 days, 21 hours, 17 minutes... a year plus a couple months.

The time taken for thread 2 was 896 days, 9 hours, 15 minutes... more than twice as long.

The slowdown happened after the beginning of thread 2. If this thread continues apace with what we had before, it will take even longer than thread 2.

It'd be nice if I have my diploma ('s) in two years. And a boyfriend. And a house. In Brussels. And a large collection of sports cars and diamonds.

But especially the diploma ('s). (And the boyfriend.)

I should hopefully be working on my Masters degree in two years. Or have a job. Or both.
