In other news, getting up at 5:30 AM on Saturday after having been up until midnight on Friday, and then going out for a looong day and not getting home until 2 AM Sunday... is a great way to make yourself sleep half of Sunday away.

Heading to Edmonton tomorrow for a job interview. I might even see an Airbus A380 during my layover in Toronto (in the same terminal as my flight and it departs about an hour after my flight leaves)

    427: Wow! What's the job?

I'm in need of a job right now. Waiting for a few places to get back to me, I guess I will follow them up in a week or so.

Normally something like the Emmy's wouldn't interest me, but I really hope Michelle Fairley wins one.

The only thing I know about entertainment awards is that Adam Hills never wins the Gold Logie.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

One of the best acceptance speeches in recent years is still this one by Randy Newman. Only a little bit cynical :P

Justin Timberlake is quite pathetic at 2.12

The good thing about awards shows is the most important ones are in America, so they are on tv when I sleep. I'll hear the 5-minute-summary the next day when I wake up.

I know nothing about Team USA and the only things I know about the Philadelphia Union are the new stadium and the occasional dirty word on their uniforms

I don't generally care much for sports, but I do like when our international representatives do well.

Junior planner / planning technician with the city. Yes it's a long way to go but I need to get my foot in the door somewhere to get some experience. Alberta is hiring like crazy whereas in this part of Canada there's high unemployment.

The Belgian national football team apparently is at place 5 in the bookmaker lists of teams most likely to win the World Cup. And we haven't even qualified yet. Americans may remember that we recently won from your team with 2-4.

The team has become really popular recently, with tickets selling out in just 5 minutes and record viewing figures on tv. Odd, because only one year ago, the Red Devils were the laughing stock of the nation.

I found out how to change the driving side on the Steam install of SimCity 4. Tomorrow I'll install the new NAM.

The hardest part about living in Japan is pretending to look like I give a crap when people talk about the World Cup.  That said, I don't look down on soccer, I just don't care.

447: So you'd be aware we nearly beat you until you scored a penalty in the 89th minute?

timmie: Nope, never heard it.  I would put the percentage of Americans who actually know that and care at 5% or less.

Yoshi: Nope.  It's baseball season :D  I won't pay any attention to soccer unless I absolutely have to (as in, all my colleagues are talking about it, or it's on the news and I happen to catch it).

In Japan, I'm often asked why Americans don't watch soccer.  The best thing I can think of is that Americans tend to like "American" stuff.  Soccer?  Not really American.  Football?  Oh yes, so American.  Baseball?  An exciting, American version of rounders (whatever the heck that is).  I also think it kind of applies to F1 (unwatched in the States) and NASCAR (vying with American football for the most popular sport in the country).  I've grown a distaste for the arguments over which sport is better, though.  Soccer is really difficult to play at the level the World Cup teams play at, American football players are seriously talented athletes in a very rough game, and racing cars is hard no matter what series you're in.  I'm sure Juan Pablo Montoya would be able to back me up on that :D

Yeah, over here in the US we do tend to have to be different. Doing things the way the rest of the world does them is not our style.
