King: Thanks. Yeah, the tide is a little high there. 3.gif

ScottFTL: Wait until you see the wind damage. The eyewall is about to tear through. 11.gif

A: Thanks for the compliments. It's been a while since I saw you around, great to see you back!

TMS: Thanks for the great compliments. And that journal entry is your best one yet, and really accurate too. I think I'm going to change my speech for the radio. It's time that the residents here the truth. 2.gif

I'm really glad you think this CJ is fun to read. It never used to be that way, but then I made the tornado updates, and now these hurricane updates. The maps, I made them in MSPaint, but I guess you could still make good stuff there. But really, calling this one of the best CJs ever, I'm humbled! That's the best compliment I can get. Thanks again TMS. 10.gif

    Simworld: Thanks.

    SA: Thanks for the complments.

    To All:

    First, the page 34 TOC:

    pg34toc5je.jpg

And here is the Ocean Point storm surge update.

THE STORM SURGE IN OCEAN POINT

The storm surge has been as expected in Ocean Point. One word describes it: Devastating.

Luckily, it was well-forecasted and residents of areas which were forecasted to be flooded were evacuated. In South Baytown, the residents didn't have it so good. Many of them fled for higher ground on makeshift rowboats while they watched the rising water cover their second story windows.

The Pinewood Neck, as forecasted and expected, has been hit the hardest by the storm surge. It is a very low lying peninsula, and has had a history of devastating floods in the past.

This part of the mainland south of the Pinewood River was hit particularly hard:

    centralpwnk7uh.jpg

Pinewood Neck Point was barely recognizable under the floodwater. The Pinewood Neck Point Marina has already been completely washed away.

    spwnk7lv.jpg

Flooding along I-31 has been a huge problem. This is the area just southwest of Ocean Point Municipal Airport (OPMA), and I-31 is an elevated highway here. Still, it is close to being washed out.

    i31pwnk2xo.jpg

On the mainland south of the Pinewood River, some areas have been absolutely devastated:

    swarea6bs.jpg

Here is a close up of the I-268/Rte. 28 T-Interchange in the area in the picture above. It is completely washed out.

    tinterchange0us.jpg

    Now, onto the island.

This area west of I-268, along Route 71, has been hit hard by the storm surge:

    islandsw5lx.jpg

In the Westover Neck district on Marshland, one of the nicest areas in Ocean Point, the flooding is so bad that these houses may not be there anymore by the time the water has finally receded.

    westoverneck4mn.jpg

Finally, here is the ocean, approaching the tall condos in downtown Ocean Point. The beach is completely gone now, as are the sand dunes, leaving downtown vulnerable to the ocean.

Amryai: Thanks for the compliments. Yep, luckily, downtown didn't get flooded much at all. If it had, it would have been devastating.

RHF: Yeah, the bottom floor of each of those buildings got some major water damage from the flooding. That's about as high as the water got, though.

TMS: Thanks for the compliments, and that journal update is really good and accurate. As for the name of the storm, I couldn't decide what real name to call it. So, we can call it The Great Ocean Point Hurricane or something like that.

    jacqulina: Thanks for the compliments.

Cjah: It took a while, but I finally got it to flood exactly as I wanted it to.

dhoppeii: Yeah, I don't have much mercy for my sims most of the time. I'm glad you like that style. 3.gif

oroen: Don't worry, Westover Neck will be back. Those houses are built to withstand stuff like this.

Jeroni: Thanks for the compliments. It feels great to get compliments from the creator of SCR! And thanks for the congrats on 1,000 posts, I can barely believe that this CJ has reached 1,000. 10.gif

To All: Like TMS said, the eye has come ashore. Ocean Point was actually in the extreme northern part of the eye, but the eye was about 18 miles in diameter, so it stretched from Ocean Point southward past the region's southern border. It passed over OPI, Crosstown, South Shores, Pinewood, South Inlet, Pinewood Banks, Pinewood Shoals, Great Bend, South Baytown and Ocean Point at the same time.

Pictures from after the storm will be of the extensive wind damage that has occured in the region. While the storm still rages in the entire region, the winds behind the eye of the storm have shifted to the southwest, allowing Marshland Bay and the Pinewood River to drain into the ocean. The storm surge, which peaked at 20.1 feet on Marshland Bay, is down to around 13.5 feet and is rapidly falling.

These were the storm's statistics when it made landfall it approximately 11:50 PM last night:

Point of Landfall (Center of Eye): Crosstown
    Sustained Winds: 155 MPH
    Wind Gusts: 180 MPH
    Category: 5
    Pressure: 915.4 MB

    Current information of the storm:

Location: 30 miles northwest of Great Bend
    Sustained Winds: 125 MPH
    Wind Gusts: 140 MPH
    Category: 3
    Pressure: 940.2 MB

Some weather stations in the Ocean Point area recorded Category 5 winds (155 MPH or greater) during the height of the storm.

Crosstown at the center of it all eh? Wow...that's too bad. And now it's centered on Great Bend...how about suggesting names for the hurricane? I personally like Delilah, because it's so anticlimatic considering the strength and ferocity of the hurricane...

King: Thanks. As for your suggestion, Hurricane Ocean Point, it sounds too much like a movie title or something, even though it is good. But thanks for that anyways.

RHF: Crosstown didn't really get hit much harder than the rest of the southern half of the region, even though it was the official point of landfall. It was never right over Great Bend, but 30 miles northwest of it like I said. As for the name, Delilah is ok, but I'm not going to choose a real name for the hurricane. There are too many to choose from. So, it will just be The Great Ocean Point Hurricane.

    Pooty: Thanks for the compliments.

    To All:

The Great OP Hurricane has moved well inland (About 200 miles inland), and is now just a Tropical Depression, with winds of around 35 MPH. Pictures of the horrible wind damage will be shown in the coming days. It will be a long, dangerous, expensive road for Ocean Point to rebuild to where it was before The Great OP Hurricane hit.

It sounds kind of awful to say... but I can't wait to see photos of the wind damage!

TMS, I hope you made it through the storm alright. That will teach you to evacuate next time.

    Ocean Point News report:

3,000 missing, 40 dead, and an unexplained phenomenon entered the city of ocean point. Citizens are shocked at the devastating damage that destroyed most of Pinewood Flats, Pinewood Neck, and some minor damage was reported near downtown ocean Point. Evacuation of the cities to inland areas are at a full swing as rescue helicopters fished out local residents standing on their roofs.

It was scary. said a 45 year Old Pinewood Flats resident. I've never seen anything like it.

    Did you like that? 3.gif

Well, I hope the repair is going to go well, hopefully, not The day After tomorrow won't happen here...

ILL Tonkso: Yeah you might be right.

Mikeaut: Don't worry, it'll only be a couple more days.

    pekeboo: Thanks for the compliments.

Scott FTL: Yeah, the planes have been hard at work taking aerial pictures of the damage. They'll have the pictures to City Hall soon.

King: Thanks for the effort, but I have to discard most of that stuff in the post. I have to be realistic with this. The storm surge/wind speeds and damage that I'm trying to show here is more or less like the kind of devastating damage that has occured in Florida's hurricanes, not like The Day After Tomorrow. No offense dude, and sorry if it doesn't satisfy you, but I'm either going to make it realistic or not make it at all. I hope you understand this. 2.gif

To All: I'm not sure when the wind damage pictures will be ready, but when they are, prepare to be amazed.

TMS: Thanks. You must have been hit by one of the smaller tornadoes that came out of the hurricane. These actually happen in real life, sometimes in huge numbers. Seven (Yep, 7) tornadoes ranked at F0-F2 were reported in the Ocean Point region during the extent of the storm. That journal entry is really great. 10.gif

    To All:

Here are the preliminary figures from the storm:

    Deaths: 26
    Injuries: 243

These figures would have been 10-15 times higher if the island had not been evacuated.

Estimated cost: 15-25 Billion Dollars (USD)

This figure will become more exact as time goes on and the true amount of damage surfaces.

The wind damage update should come today. It will include many pictures of the damage from Ocean Point.

King: You shouldn't have to wait too much longer. 10.gif

    To All:

Don't worry, I'm not cancelling this CJ, just taking a break from SC4 and Simtropolis.

The pictures of Ocean Point's wind damage are all taken now, so I just have to convert them to .jpegs and get them up here when I can get to it.

The major cleanup effort for the hurricane is just beginning.
