This is, of course, the result of inductive reasoning.  The picture is strictly an artists conception since at that distance photos of that detail are not possible.  Would be something to see in real time.

That's pretty obvious don't you think?

Here's something that might tickle the fancies of some of you, but an ancient orange star with 5 rocky Earth-like planets has been discovered.  Here's the kicker, the the star and it's planets are 11.2 billion (yes, that's billion) years old.  Read more here....

Yeah.  Saw that.  Put's paid to Bishop Usher's estimate that the universe is only 6000 years old based on scripture.

Kind of like riding a slow boat to China.  Just to get to the Centauri system would take 4 years at that rate, and if you were travelling at that rate, relativity says you could do it in no time as far as you were concerned.  Leaves one wondering if warp drive is the way to go.  You bend the space around you and take a short cut.

The problem is finding enough energy to do this without destroying yourself in the process.  Probably need some later words in particle physics and/or string theory than have been said to date.

Thought that this was a pretty interesting article, disproving Big Bang Theory.

No Big Bang? Quantum equation predicts universe has no beginning.

This is Nobel prize winning work if carried to conclusion.

Tibbits says the stem cells, reprogrammed into beating heart cells. have the same genome as the patient from whom they were taken, which means they also exhibit the same kind of arrhythmia.

This will allow the team to tailor therapies to individual arrhythmia patients. Tibbits expects that within the next few months the team will be able to begin testing treatments.

I was successfully treated in the last month for an arrhythmia which could have been fatal.  While this new research could result in surgery, mine did not, for which I am thankful.  However, this is promising for those who often wind up with pacemakers or other hardware.

Meet the electric life forms that live on pure energy

Unlike any other life on Earth, these extraordinary bacteria use energy in its purest form – they eat and breathe electrons – and they are everywhere.

Neat,  life as we didn't know it.  How will we ever identify an ET life form considering our own diversity?

Anyone remember the story in one of the old SF mags called "The Waveries", about an ET life form that lived on electrical waves of any kind.  They colonized the earth and ate all forms of electricity.  Earth was set back to the horse and buggy age.

I highly recommend you look into the accidental discoveries relating to Gravito-electromagnetism, it could be the key you're looking for in regards to alcubierre warp drive, or if nothing else, possibly heim hyperspace theory.

Yes, but not from yeasts, which are flora not fauna.

Yeasts are a type of fungus, as everyone knows. However, what few people know is that fungi seem to have evolved from single-celled "animals." I believe the closest modern fungus related to animals would be a slime mold (usually considered a protist) or maybe a chytrid (which is usually a parasitic fungus). For a very long time, fungi were studied by botanists because mushrooms look very much like plants but the shape appears to be the result of convergent evolution. Another hint towards fungi's nature as an offshoot of animals is that fungi are heterotrophs, they have to eat their food, they cannot make food themselves through photosynthesis.

EDIT: I just realized that I quoted a post from 2013, not 2015. I guess either my browser acted up or I haven't visited this page in 2 years.

RE The really cool/pretty ring around the exoplanet: I wish that was my desktop wallpaper but sadly it is too small (low resolution).

RE Electric Life-forms: That is pretty neat. I never thought they could exist.

RE Mars: I heard that the pool of candidates has decreased to the 100 (or was it 200) finalists. I am pretty sure that 100 is too small for a colony so I hope that 100 people will go to Mars, otherwise a one way trip would only make sense for certain types of scientists.

RE Moons of Pluto: Those look pretty cool. I thought that Pluto was not technically a planet so it's "moons" were just large asteroids that never got cleared in the area. I also heard that there is an actual planet-sized object in the Kuiper belt.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34

While pluto isn't necessarily a planet, it's still classed as a dwarf planet, which is not  necessarily your average asteroid :P a better and more accurate way to term Pluto's moons would be to say Pluto's natural satellites.

"Dark matter" doesn't interact with anything???

It would appear that this "nice" cosmology theory is lacking some proof.  Has this stuff no mass?  No gravitational field?  Well, fellas, neither did the debunked "particulate aether".  Time to do all your sums again?

It is always tragic to see a beautiful theory smashed by an ugly fact.

The article says that Dark Matter has mass and interacts with gravity but does not seem to interact with any other forces whatsoever (observed so far). It has no electrostatic forces so it does not collide with normal matter or other dark matter in the same way that normal matter does. This is extremely interesting but also rather confusing.

If this can be moved to production scale from this bench test, a lot of northern Canadians might well benefit from decreased grocery prices.

In the northern communities, the grocery bag that costs $100 in Toronto would probably cost $500.

    Panacea?

Some of the old medicine men were pretty acute.  Note the use of two varieties of allium, which has been looked upon as a cure-all for millennia.

The Ancient Greeks venerated Moly, which I have grown as a low ground cover.  It is a variety of garlic with little yellow flowers and if you pick them your hands will smell like garlic until you've washed them a couple of times.  I could never quite convince myself that it was safe to use as a flavouring.

As Billy Batson would say, Holy Moly.
