Is it? That would be lovely! This game's cities feel like poor medieval villages, though, but that's maybe because I'm too used to Disney-medieval stuff or Anno (Renaissance) games. :P

Too bad it will be released next year. :( But anyways, you should've done what the NAM team does, no release date or timeline for release. Sure, we love to be surprised! :P

Release date has been issued for Banished

Yesterday was interesting an interesting day, and one like no other in the last few years.  I had finished the in-game help and finalized the tutorials earlier this week.  So the first thing I did when I woke up was to speel check all the text in the game. (See, that’s funny!) I then wrote the credits, which were a bit short. I stopped full screen resolutions under 640 pixels wide from being switched to, even if the hardware supports it. I fixed a small bug with the main toolbar when the user interface was scaled. I looked over some minor balancing issues that have been nagging me.  Then I turned off asserts, (those are debug checks to make sure everything is running properly, but tend to slow things down) and then I made a build of the game.  And then I didn’t have anything else to do. And that’s a strange feeling.  Well – there are things to do – just not in the changing code, art, or data departments. There might still be minor bugs, there might be crashes that haven’t been found. But today I’m calling the game content complete. Banished is done, and so without any further delay,

Banished will be released on
February 18, 2014

I know I can be quoted as saying that I wanted the game released in January, but over the holidays I ended up taking some time off from development, and apparently writing full in-game help takes far longer than you might expect.  Testing progress has been slow over the holiday season, so the current build will be tested until release, checking everything I’ve touched in the last month and a half – the final tutorials, help system, and minor code and balancing tweaks. Just to be sure things are in working order.  Ah, I remember when I quit my job and thought I could make a game in one year. It took three times as long, but it was definitely worth it, and the process was really satisfying!

Cheers!

This is probably the next city-builder game I'm waiting for; it's an indie title and developed by just one guy...and it looks to be a solid game.  Please support him, I think he'll only sell it for $20.

This game reminds me of age of empires. I'll give it a try whenever it comes out.

Why is this NOT news on the front page of ST??

Agreed. This looks amazing.

I'd love for the dev to eventually do a city building game akin to Sim City. He has proven to be very good at what he does through the numerous gameplay videos on YouTube, which have usually over 10,000 viewers per vid (and, I should add, more than 140k views on the official YouTube page). That is a significant amount of interest and a lot of money going toward the developer.

Good job.

Perhaps someone might mention to him how he has managed to make a playable game on his own without ripping anyone off, which seems to be beyond EA/Maxis & their multi millions. I think this sort of thing really shows up these charlatans for what they are.

I can't believe how little interest this game have on this forums. I mean come on guys, it looks perfect! And it will be released tomorrow. And it will support mods (not at the release but the guy who made the game is working on modding tools), so, uh. This game should have it's own forums section.

I wouldn't say it's got little interest, far more people than I anticipated are aware of this games existence. I'm sure discussion will pick up at least a little once it's released.

And this is what suprises me, the game has a lot of interest in general, so I thought it would be huge on this forums (its about city building games, after all), but there is just a little topic about it with a few responces :)

I'm sure this discussion will pick up once the buzz catches on, I've been watching the "Lets Play" vids on You tube in anticipation of tomorrows release.  It sure looks good & the maps are huge!

Just speechless, that's it! A lot of interest and what many of us see so far has left us speechless with anticipation! Ihope this game will be all it purports to be and have no reason to think it won't. Banished and the one man show have the opportunity to put the big guys to shame it seems to me.

I definetly plan to buy the game even though I have not commented here but one time or so way back, but I will wait for the crowds to thin.

I was beginning to get the city-building bug, then I found this game several months ago. Now I cannot wait, and with less than 24 hours left, it's excruciating. I've been playing all sorts of games over the intervening time (eg - EU IV, CiM 2), and almost reinstalled SC4, just to kill the tension. I hope so much that this game delivers what it has been promising for so long now, and that I finally have a city-building game in my collection to rival SC4:)

Banished has been released but I am super busy this week so I will wait until at least Friday.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

Just got my copy too. I'm working on a time sensitive project for work right now so hesitating to install out of the fear I may not get any work done. They have an official forum now too. You can find it on the Shining Rock site.
