It's definitely better in small towns, but they can be fun, and they always give you mayor rating, so I do them.

Those were always interesting, since it was a game within a game... Sort of speak. I actually really enjoyed the time challenges and trying to catch a getaway van or something, quite fun.

Too bad the Dr. Vu missions always ended with negative mayor rating, I would've loved to do those just for fun.

I like U.D.I. and I use it every time, to unlock buildings, raise my reputation, checking my traffic infrastructures and just having fun with the free driving :)

I felt so cheap unlocking building like that... Oh look, I unlocked a Nuclear Power Plant at a population a third of the size it should've been -___-

I'd rather earn everything the old-fashioned way......... By legalizing gambling and building a missile base!!!!!

Springfield has a nuclear reactor with only 30,720 Sims, not 85,000 :D:P

Nope...never do them.  I think it's a frivolous, pointless feature of the game.  Besides, I don't have the hand/eye coordination to use the controls.  I've tried driving a car in the game, and always end up crashing because I can't keep the thing going straight in its lane.

I have neither the patience nor the eye-hand coordination to run UDI.  I also think that generally this integration with the Sims is just a marketing ploy, and jamming it into Deluxe was a grave error that caused lots of lost development time on the main show.  I turn it off the instant I open a new city.

There's a key command to keep them in lane. I only know that because I tried this once in the very beginning of the game. I have never used the feature since.

No, never play the UDI, in fact I wish I could remove it from the game since I get tired of the little "bugs" or "gnats" getting in my way when I'm trying to do something else. If I want to drive I'll play a different game.

I hate to admit it, but I do U.D.I. wayyyyy too much. I do some of the missions, but I try to avoid the ones that give you buildings that are too hard to get normally. Sometimes I will do free drive just to look around my city, or go over some huge bridge I just built. Other times, I just use cheats to unlock a tank and drive them around crazy mountains and hills.

I only do things like tramways or elevated rail/subway, just to check whether the track actually is contiguous.

There's a way to keep the vehicle in its lane? That would be helpful for me, as I always end up going all over the place. Does anyone know the key command?

One of the biggest problems with the UDI was that the simulation of the game wasn't exactly meant for having that. Cars would randomly appear and disappear only make it seem like there's a lot of traffic or lack-there-of, so sometimes cars/trucks would appear directly in front or behind you and cause you to crash. Especially, if you're driving a 4-door sedan and go into a heavy industrial zone... The moment you hit one of those Semi Trucks with your itty-bitty car... BOOM! UDI was over, and -60 points in mayor rating to the local area o.O

When you're in UDI, hit the Shift Key ONCE and you're now locked onto the right-side of roads! To make turns at intersections use the arrow keys once you get to the intersection, failure to do so in time will result in the car following the road straight ahead, or if it's a T-intersection, it'll probably make a right turn on it's own. Once you made the turn, there's no easy way to go back without circling the block or clicking the Shift Key again to go back into unlocked mode. Also, to switch lanes on larger streets/highways, just use the right/left arrow keys.

Hope that helped!

It's because Mr. Burns is actually a colleague of Dr. Vu... So, he cheated in getting that plant!

I don't understand what you mean..."look around my city".  Are you saying you can actually get a street-level view of your city on a UDI mission?  If so, I've never encountered that.  The very few times I tried doing UDI, I just watched the car from a birds-eye view.

Apparently so. I only use it to test the rails and roads though. I don't really desire glitched roads at all.

you can stop those little signs for the UDI by going into the settings.

I like to drive around my city in mayor limo. Does anyone know a mod that makes police cars escort you as you drive the mayor limo? In real life often rulers of cities or countries are accompanied by police or military.

Eh.... I have yet to see a city mayor drive around with a personal motorcade of bodyguards.

I have only done them to unlock certain rewards, especially for some of the smaller towns.

For some reason I feel "Closer" to my city if I'm actually driving in it, and even though I'm aware it doesn't do anything more than me zooming in and looking at it manually.

Sometimes when I don't really have something to do in my city, I just drive around in a bus, a bit roleplaying.

Also I use UDI to test GLR/rail tracks I just laid.
