Good evening Simtropolis,
Long time reader, first time topic-maker, so apologies in advance if I misstep on any forum etiquette.
Version: SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition (Steam), running the latest version as of September 6th 2023.
Machine Information: Windows 10, Intel Core i5-10210U CPU, 8GB Ram.
I recently installed SimCity 4 from Steam onto a secondhand laptop. It installed once perfectly fine, ran well, the whole deal. When I went to install CAM, I realized that the auto-installer could not find my User Directory (where regions, plugins, et al are stored). After investigating, I found that this folder was kept in my OneDrive. I decided, since OneDrive is incredibly finicky and a pain to use, I would move my User Directory to my regular PC Documents Folder & unlink and uninstall OneDrive. This was clearly a mistake, as now SimCity 4 crashes to desktop after 2 or so frames of the intro movie (the EA logo gets about halfway onto the screen).
I have so far tried uninstalling & reinstalling. I have turned the Intro Movie off, which does allow the game to load to Timbuktu, until I attempt to load anything else (e.g. a city tile or a different region). I have used the -UserDir command in Steam settings to no avail. I have trawled the forums to the best of my ability to find a similar issue and come up lacking. In my Exception Report, the listed code is ACCESS_VIOLATION.
I believe the problem is that the game is trying to find a folder that now no longer exists, and I do not know how to point it in the right direction. However, I am not very technically savvy, so I'm mostly fumbling in the dark.
Any help would be incredibly appreciated.
