I really like those Roads and Tutorial videos. The Roads one shows well what you can and cannot do with the different road types.

Especially while watching the Tutorial video I got a nice Simcity feeling.

It seems to me that the game is getting more and more complete. Now I hope that the Maxis team manages to overcome the city-size-threshold; in SC4 I always play the large city sizes.

That's a whole lot of oil. With the resource engine I wonder how long it'll last.

Where did all these videos suddenly appear from?

Good lord, this is so awesome! After looking at that roads video, I can only imagine what awaits in all the other videos. Time to waste away my afternoon in pure eye-candy!

The silent vids are from Ocean, the game has a record video option built in.

They will have sound, they're working on that right now.

Only thing that's a bit weird in all those videos is there's huge streets everywhere. I live in a 75k pop town and we have 2 major 4 lanes street, some minor, shorter 4 lanes boulevard and everything else is mostly 2 lanes streets.

In most SC video, it's either 4 lanes or 6 lanes even though cities looks quite small.

Certainly, the graphics in new game is going to be outstanding. How sad that my computer will not cope with it :(

Yeah, it's the same old issue that bothers me since the first screenshots were released and the new zoning system was introduced. I would prefer to have the same road types like in SC4 RH: street, road, avenue, highway. Now we have the nice but rural dirt roads, the streets from SC4 without an option of traffic lights, a bunch of different avenues and no highways...

Now that I see that map size I am more convinced than ever that the TILES ARE TOO SMALL!!!

That tile size is unacceptable. I just can't believe how small it is? Maxis just failed in this effort. There are no two ways about it.

    Dynamic night lighting =O

The online-only and number of cities restriction sold me away from the game, but this is temptation.

Given the regions are edited by Maxis, which would include laying highways, I would imagine there are dev tools for this - thinking out loud here but it might be possible to break into these (unless the tools are an external dependancy)

Is it just me or does the tile in Beta Gameplay #1 look smaller than the tile in #2? I'm inclined to believe that the #1 video is a tutorial region/city with smaller tiles. The tile in the #2 video seems to be more akin to what we've been shown before and is pretty much satisfactory for me, although I do hope they'll release bigger tiles after release.

The tile in the intro tutorial, and in the region available for dev beta players is apparently the smallest variety and we should have more regions with larger (2x2km) tiles available in the retail version.

Well that's because the devs apparently like slapping down giant boulevards everywhere. I've seen a city or two with two lane roads.

    Graphics over content?

...maybe EA hedged their bet correctly.

is this UDI!!?? thanks for the post.

I don't believe UDI has been implemented into this game, but as these videos show you are able to follow vehicles around the city (just not control them)

This could be true, but the maps in the two videos are of an equal size. Just freeze video #1 at 0:14 and video #2 at 0:05 and you will see it. The map in video #1 just looks smaller because a part of it lies in the water.

That night view looks awesome. Anyone catch towards the end of the video the fire burning at the top left? The fire effect looks great at night. In fact I like everything I'm seeing in the videos. The whole thing just makes me sad though because although this looks good, the small tile size and disconnected city tiles just kills the game for anyone who wants to build a semi-realistic city. Each of these videos shows almost the entire city that they're filmed in. They've been cleverly angled to hide how tiny the available space really is. It's a real pity, because it really does look fantastic and the effects (lights flipping on etc) have been well thought out.

Actually, on the cheetah video, I would speculate that you can actually see the edge of the tile at about 0:30. The big suspension bridge appears to be part of the regional highway! Look below it and there's a road that ends in a highway sign and has the zebra crosswalk spanning it with no intersection. Looks like the city's connection to the region to me.
