Ah ok.. I think what you're calling the facade and what I'm calling the facade are two different things thats why I'm getting confused... I was seeing the facade as the plane the windows are sitting on, the pillars are attached to that, those larger corner stones just being larger versions of pillars. But if you think of the base and the top row as being flush with eachother and with the corner stones as well, then its more like the windows are inset from the facade, rather than the pillars stuck on. (not sure that even made sense lol). But I see what you're saying now, its actually quite clear from the north-west corner where it all terminates at the laneway.

Yuk.. that's going to be a nightmare to fix I think.

Thanks re the antenna.. that seems embarrassingly obvious.. I'm wondering whether I tried that and it didn't work. I'll have another go at it.

    Thanks again!

Here's a new one I started yesterday. St Pauls Cathedral, which is located diagonally opposite Flinders Street Station. (Which I still need to finish). There's an ingame shot as well to show the lot size, which is going to be 6x6.

    Thanks everyone :)

I know I'm jumping over the place a bit, I think I'm finding if I work on one thing I get too close to it, its hard to spot the problems. Here's the other project I'm going to be working on (actually its more like 3-in-1), Its the Arts Centre Precinct across the bridge from Flinders Street Station. This is just a prototype at the moment, its made up of three lots, the National Gallery is 11x6, theres a triangular-shaped annex piece which will be a separate lot made of an overhanging prop, and the third piece is the Arts Centre spire and Hamer Hall, with the City Road underpass (Will also have overhanging props on it). Its a particuarly tricky complex to try and recreate in SC4 but I think this configuration should work. Let me know your thoughts :)

Ps. I updated the earlier in game image of St Pauls Cathedral, I didn't notice the image was really huge (sorry about that!), but also the model was off-centre and wasn't sitting on the lot properly.

That looks fantastic, I love that you used an overhanging prop, it will really add diversity to SC4 cities.

    Thanks RepublicMaster :)

Here's another quick update, I had an idea how to make turbulence at the base of the fountains usings torus rings, I think it looks pretty effective. I also finished off a couple of details on the roof and started adding in the two annexes at the rear of the building. Not sure yet how these will work as they hang off the lot, but I want this building contained to this lot only. I'm hoping I can add the other pieces onto the triangular lot and piece them together seamlessely.

This doesn't look like much progress, but BATing, as with most things, 80% of the effort goes into the last 20% of the BAT. I think I've finally got textures that look like they belong in the game. Looking at the roof now, it looks a bit gmax-ish so will need to work on that a bit more, and I thought I had a good match for the grass but its looking a bit bright now.

With the overhanging prop, probably a couple of things too - I'm going to try modelling a footpath, not sure what that will end up looking like though. I also think I made all the buildings and the South-Eastern wall too tall so will need to shrink them down, and the side of the annex facing the gallery is currently blank, but I'm guessing there should probably be windows along that wall.

Anyway, if you have any improvement suggestions please let me know :)

Love the shape of the building/s in-game, makes this lot really unique. Have you ever thought about doing the MCG for a completely different challenge?

Next project, Melbourne Sports and Entertainment Precinct. :P

All of these are truly amazing! Can't wait to add these to my melbourne recreation!
It would be cool if you made the Prima Pearl or Australia 108, once you've finished what you have planned first of course.

    Keep up the amazing work!

Thanks guys.. its nice comments like these that keep me going :)

As for MCG, and entire sports complex (LOL!)... I didn't have on my immediate radar, I did have Etihad on my list though, that will be one of my next ones, once I finish off the current ones I'm working on of course!. Same with Prima Pearl, that's already on my list, but probably going to wait until Australia 108 is built before I make a BAT for it.. but never know :)

The very next thing I'm going to do is upload 101 Collins, I've sat on it a few weeks now, its not my favourite BAT but I can't really think what I would actually fix. I've already got the normal Darknite and Maxis Night models, just need to mod them, and this time I'm going to make a growable version as well. Right now, I'm exporting a diagonal version to make into a Prop to include in the upload as well. This will be the next update from me :)

I'm always intrigued by the BATs you've released, they always have such amazing and precise detail. And that building you've complete is truly something special already :D

You really are a master already!! Keep up the great work and I will continue to watch you grow into an amazing BATter for the community, so thank you

One thing I can say is: don't have too many projects at once which will drain your desire to carry on batting, and put any of your projects in a certain "dead/never-to-be-see STEX thread  ;) "

The national gallery is looking quite interesting in game...as it is IRL.

I've red the building actually dates back from the 1960's, yet it almost looks like some postmodern take on traditional chinese architecture...yep, if i didn't know you recreate Melbourne, i could have almost guessed it actually was Beijing :P.

    Thanks.. interesting series of comments..

um...starting with Roger, thanks for those comments :) I'm still relatively new to BATing but I have found by the time a BAT is almost ready for release I'm sick of looking at it, I'm ready to move onto the next one, and I release something which I end up wanting to fix 3 weeks later. My current theory is if I have a few projects on the go then I can switch it around a bit, not get so sick of looking at one thing, and by having a break, I can see the problems a bit better. I don't believe any of my projects will remain unfinished for too long, I've put too much into them already, and in the long run hopefully they will be better when they are released :) (That's the theory anyway!)

In terms of motivation, its not BATing I lose motivation for, to be honest its just BAT threads and the whole online world. There was a time not too long ago you could post something and be inundated with advice and support, these days posts can go 3-4 days without barely a single comment from anybody, and thats easy to interpret as disinterest. Couple that with people on the STEX lately who like slapping low scores on BATs that BATers have poured their hearts and souls into.. that's where waning motivation comes from.

Anyway, enough of that whinging...Good news! I've finished exporting all the models for 101 Collins, just need to Mod them, then they will be ready for upload. With any luck should be up on the STEX tonight, definitely tomorrow :)

Oh, nearly missed Francis90b... yeah, its an interesting building, I never had a lot of appreciation for it before I started BATing it. I remember one of my 1st year University lecturers giving a slide show on architecturally significant buidings and this was one of them, along side Pompadou Centre and the Louvre.. I'm like... I don't see the connection... maybe he was just fulfilling a need to having something Australian in there lol... but actually, this was significantly harder to model than St Pauls Cathedral that I did a couple days before it. There's not much too it, everything has to be right, or its very obviously wrong. Anyway, I have new found appreciation for it now :)
