I thought I would just start the discussion of things we will miss most from this iteration of Sim City. Maybe there is a city building game company out there with there ear to the ground.

Thanks,

Derek

I want to vote on every option. :/

No bridges across rivers? I didn't even heard anything about that. That's ridiculous. o.O

I love to see skyscrapers on smaller islands.

"Bridges accross rivers in your City".

They have not said anything about this not being possible in SC2013..

Ofcourse you can build bridges! Why you would not be able to?

Argh! I hate when people make up facts to pretend to know more about the game , that's how rumors start!

Subways (and bridges if not included at release) will likely come via "Rush Hour" type of expansion pack. Terra-forming is the main thing I will miss.

Dude, Maxis never said there wouldn't be bridges over rivers. And it would be ridiculous if they are not added for that purpose. After all, what other thing other than and making a path over cliffs are they normally used?

Post a source or it didn't happen.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

Definitely for me, the single-player offline version will be most missed by me.

Yeah the single player but also the regions, so you can build that super duper megalopolis spanning 12 tiles lol.

I won't be missing any of them because I won't be playing it unless they make some BIG changes to the core game design.

Surely there'll be bridges... right? :uhm: Has this been confirmed... I thought I saw heaps of bridges in the concept art.

I can live without subways, I mean they were always unrealistic and didn't add much to the game that rail couldn't to. But the other three are all key features of SC4 that will be missed by most of us here.

I miss the features that are in both SimCity 4 and Cities XL but are confirmed not to be in SimCity World. Guess what those are.

Kindly,

I ticked every box except Terraforming....

I got sad when I saw the live chat with Maxis and heard some Simtropolis person was there...why cave in...? It's okay to be upset and dissapointed.

You can sugar coat it all you like I was more annoyed when I saw Maxis go "Oh our city sizes...yeah they're small...but look at how hospitals work!!!" Come on, just except it, maps are small, they introduced a new technology which would kill the best computer with a larger city. We're going to have these skyscrapres and huge tall buildings within a small patch of grass allocated....so don't dance around it.

This in itself is why Maxis got it wrong...SimCity is about grabbing the old game style...what worked...and improving upon it. So if the new awesome Glassbox engine doesn't allow for huge cities (or bridges...yes people...there are no bridges accross water, concept art != gameplay) then it's the wrong choice of engine to use.

I heard one thing the Maxis guy said which triggered a nerve...something about 'we didn't allow terraforming because the map provides a puzzle, we like puzzzles' but you know what...SimCity fans don't appreciate 'here is your challenge, go to it' but instead SimCity fans like constructing models...it's about freedom, it's about design. Not how many ambulances can fix issue x and allow you to ocmplete a quest. This is not true SimCity!!!

Sorry guys...stop sugar coating it...they have missed the mark on this game!

I saw it too...but I believe that was in the region 'play zone' and not within the playable city limits

Edit: What makes me believe that water crossing is not available...I believe it is the gaming engine; I think the water on the game map will act like an 'invisible wall' it won't be a playable / editable zone.

You think that, but some people read that as"EA EVIL MASTER DOESNT WANT BRIDGE TO SELL DLC" and start rumours that water crossings aren't available , which are! Ofcourse they are! Why wouldn't they be in?

For me it's just the maps sizes. I am hoping, however, that there will eventually be a way to "claim" land beside your city to create a new one, and just connect the two. We could make larger metropolises this way.

And I'm not sure why "Bridges across rivers" is on there, considering Maxis has not confirmed, nor denied this feature yet.

The only deal breaker for me are the isolated 2x2 city tiles.

The size of the tile isn't really the problem for me, it's the fact that it's isolated. In SC4 you can use a several city tiles to form a realistically sized city. Well not totally realistic since most large cities are so sprawly, but it was possible to have a reasonable gradient from skyscrapers to suburbs to farms.

I wouldn't mind the size being 2x2 km if the city tiles were contiguous.

Forced-always-online is the chief culprit to all the other losses. The two top favorites, map size and terraforming are sacrificed to reduce server load. I' m not too concerned about subway as it could be easily added and is an obvious attractive expansion candidate.

If we get an offline version, map size and terraforming problems can easily be solved officially, or with mod. Almost every other losses, such as farms or bridges, can be rectified IF we have offline.

Keep looking at the big picture...

I'll miss single-player off-line the most, but mostly I plan to enjoy CitiesXL and SC4. I'll reconsider SimCity:MMO if it gets around the $20 price point and the hinky-dinks of playing SimCity "MMO style" have been worked out. Let those who enjoy their MMO city-building suffer the pain first.

I agree with you on this one, in the live broadcast I didn't see any water within city limits, just within the region, which is non changeable. They were also super nervous when the interviewer started about it and about ferries; There answer was "offcourse there's water, there's always water in any Simcity, hehehehe and boats hehehehe, now look at this curvy road....." or something like that, dodging the question like they do with pretty much any question SC4 or older SC's related.

What I'll miss? Nothing as I won't buy, but I'm super duperly disappointed in this game.

Unlike most people, the live broadcast made it even worse for me, don't even know where to start.
