Newest update on the plaza. I'm not very good at plants and greenery in general. So I'm not very happy with the green sections of the plaza I've done so far. I need some advice on what parts are done well and which aren't.

Hi.. hope you don't mind me chiming in with some thoughts. You have always been a big help to me and my projects!

To me, the grass looks nice, but the green of the foliage looks a bit unnatural, more so the little round shrubs, they look a bit minty. (Then again I'm not a colour expert, I'd be interested in other opinions or how you resolve this)

Wasn't sure if you just want feedback on the greenery or the look overall... but I'd perhaps just say an overall perception is that it looks a bit pristine.. not sure if that's the look you're going for - possibly long way from complete, but in my opinion it needs a bit more character.

The rest of the building is spectacular by the way, I look forward to seeing it complete.

Thanks for your comment red, I appreciate it.

I will definitely change the color of the shrubs. For some reason my 3ds max has been crashing a lot lately, so progress has been slow. But next time I get some more into it, I'll have added more greenery, and added some more character to the ground and walls.

:O just awesome and beautiful !

But, I think you need to add some clouds in the reflection of the windows inclined, and dirt and roof junk on the roof will be good.

It's a great work that you have done :) keep it up

    @

Cool, when will it be released or done? It's been around for ages :P

@darn21: can you share with us that tiles texture pleas? :D

btw, if you make buildings with real life dimentions (in meters) will they fit in simcity4 correctly?

IL: Not sure which one you mean, but I can't share you the textures anyways because it's procedural. I can take a pic of the setup though.

And if we make them in real life dimensions they won't fit perfectly, so I do some tweaking afterwards to fit them better.

We, stardust, are the oddest observers of self (a.k.a. the universe).

I'm just a group of atoms typing this.

    What do I know?

I was going to say the same thing as Darknono.. I'd be interested to see how cloud reflections in the upwards-facing glass would look like. The rest of your glass is just beautiful!

oh.. except for that little upwards window poking out of the inclined glass looks a bit out of place.. maybe because there is nothing reflecting off the glass around it makes it stick out a bit?

    @libellibicus: Thanks a lot!

@darknono: First of all thanks.! :) And about hte roof junk issue: I was searched several website and all on all pics I got there was only the roof junk I have so far D:. But you are right and I also thought about adding some more stuff!

@IL.: I don't thinkl it has been around for ages, but I'm working on this for a long time already:P One reason may be that I've ran out of creativity. I can't say when it will be finished and/or released. I'm still working on texturing, then nitelites, then lotting (LE or in 3dsMax) then exporting then modding then testing then readme and zpis and all that stuff and then uploading :dead:

@Kellydale: Thanks! that means a lot to me to hear something like this from someone like you!

@reddonquixote: Which windows are you talking about exactly? But thanks, you BATs are outstanding! :O

@gn_leugim: Already thought of this, too. But unfortunately I have bo clue of how to create such a sun spot. :(

So, I tried this now, sry for the small preview this time, I hadn't much time for photo editing.

    9298719588960078ec95f4dac955cba3.jpg

I have no idea of how to create clouds or a sun reflection in another way. Sorry for this.

Last update for today. Making the night maps take a while, but I love the results.

This is turning out to be an impressive BAT! I love your idea of rendering scenes to create night-textures for the windows. It must be quite a lot of work, but it looks absolutely perfect.

@skyscraper241: Your clouds are beautiful, but I think you should try with an mixed sky ( blue with clouds ), with that, I think we will can better see the difference . And try to keep your ground texture too ( but I don't know if it's possible, add two reflective effects on the same glass )

I love your skyscraper, this one has a great potential ;)

About the chase, I have nothing to say, just keep it up :D , Your nightlight for the offices are very good, and with the other lights it's will be an major building for the game :)

This is why you should always save a back up file. Luckily 3DS Max makes backups for you. Check your autoback folder and you may find a backup in there.

    Good news!

Thanks to the autobackup I was able to recreate the progress of the last days and have almost the same result as I had yesterday. i had several backups. However, those were saved when the building was still modelled. So they weren't up to date!

For the sky, it not possible to create a sky pane, the same way as a gorund pane, that has a texture of clouds...set it face down 100m above the building? I believe it does something similar to this when you press the sky button?

In Max's preferences there's a setting called "increment on save" which will automatically make a new file every time you save. So the first file would be building-01.max, and then when you save it a new file would be created, called building-02.max. Then you can keep all of the files, having confidence that you can always go back to an older version if you need to. And then when you're done with the BAT you can just delete the extra .max files.

Reflecting clouds is possible but it might be tricky. Go to Rendering>Environment, and click and drag the MR Sky into an empty slot in the material editor (instance it). Then, add a bitmap to Haze, and in the Output rollout of the Bitmap (scroll down to the bottom) change the RGB Level to something between 5 and 10. Also, change the mapping type (at the very top of the bitmap) to Environ and Spherical.

This should get you clouds in the sky. idk how well it will work though. Also, there are a few things to make sure you do. First, the overall brightness and color of the sky with the clouds on it should be about the same as it was before you made any changes. Otherwise you're basically changing the colors of the rig. And the other thing to be careful of, is that every time you press the Sky button it will reset it to the BAT4Max defaults, so be careful or else you'll loose your work.

Ok guys, I actually made progress on a building today, unfortunately it isn't chase. It is set off for a bit until I can get more ram in my computer. I've started running out while using the scene and it crashes often. Instead of doing that, I decided to start on a building I've always wanted to make. 333 wacker drive.

I spent a few hours on it today doing the blockout of the shapes.

I rather like this one. It's a lot more complicated that I thought it was. Many more recesses and interesting bits about it.

A small update on Onterie Center

    9d76c67535d2929375ddcaaffad6c1ca.jpg

The only thing i worked on this time was the reflections of the skewed windows. I used the manner Jason had explained. However, there were some problems. When I was supposed to add a bitmap to the haze tab I didn't know which texture the bitmap was supposed to have. When I tested it yesterday, I was using the cloud texture you could see in one of the last updates. That made the background change it's colour but, however, that was the only that that had changed. Also, I played around with the seetings of the RGB tab. After all, the sky remained the same!
