Amazing details.

To bad, a lot of it is lost in the export.

Still I do it myself. Make way to detailed models. ;)

It'll be 4x4 if I can't figure out how to make a couple parts overhang.

    Hey Darn.

I think night lights might be a bit premature. If I'm being really honest you are letting down some of the most exquisite modelling work we've seen with, I'm sorry to say, very average texturing.

Its up to you if you want to continue this way, its not entirely bad, but given the work that went into the modelling I think its a shame not to put the same amount of effort into the textures.

As someone who also likes to model the detail I respectfully disagree that you can get away with simple textures because of detailed modelling.

To show what I mean, I've attached a close-up of the cupola.

    1) There's antiquing in the detail and mouldlings. Age and grime has sunk into the crevices giving it a distinct antiqued look

    2) There's signs of weathering and dripping from rain.

    3) There's not just one material. e.g. The pillars aren't made of bricks. Even if you have modelled the bricks, the grouting/cement isn't the same as the bricks. You appear to have applied one texture all-over?

    4) Possibly more of a design choice than a requirement, but these images show the material with a warm blush, yours is very much on the colder greenish side.

Of course its up to you, even if you do nothing its still an amazing model :)

You sir is classy! What a way you've accepted critique! Everyone should look up to you.

Different materials require different bitmaps, but in the image above from what I can see is that all elements are made of limestone. Limestone tends to get warmer color as it ages.

When shading for ageing marks, one needs to be very subtle. You don't want your building to get dirty and abandoned looks, but just get some nice feel to it.

And most importantly, never loose your patience and take your time!

Oooh, so much better. But It's a bit too green. I took a liberty to photoshop your building, and this is what I did,

I took out green, added a tad of red, a tad of yellow, and darkened it quite a bit. This is the outcome (I was aiming for the outcome from the picture posted by rdq)

Looking at it now, even my version looks too green. So maybe go heavy on reducing green...

The green however was on purpose. That's just my stylistic preference. I'm not a big fan of reds. That much is definitely staying how it is. Thanks for the input though.

Here's just a minimalist render of it to show more of the details.

I'll take out a little green. The real building is, I agree, a lot more red than I have it. Probably too big of a difference atm to call it artistic license for a recreation.

Much much better :thumb:  (I do like Vlasky's photoshopped version though... :O ).. but as you say its artistic preference :D

Ps. I hope you didn't really get "hey you idiot" from my post.. that wasn't intended at all. If you did.. sorry :(

Wonderfully detailed model! Great work Darn & Co, very nice to see these Chicago recreations.

If you're taking requests I'd love to see the Chicago Mercantile Exchange / 20 S Wacker Dr.

Ambient lighting from the base looks great to me, very realistic! :golly:

As for the window light, it looks like you're going to pull the full monty, i.e. modeling out and lighting the interior? That sounds like a ton of work, and I guess it will be hard to avoid obvious repetition of the interior... in terms of light intensity, however, I think you're absoluely on the right track.

The flood lights on the crown look spot on to me. *ba-dumm tss* Those around the middle section seem a tad too intense, however, or is this how they really are IRL?

Wow, it's an good start for the night version so far. I really like the color variation of the omni light, it's so beautiful

Street ambient lighting is just perfect to me. I agree with T Wrecks about the light around the middle part of the tower, I think you could down the light intensity ;)

So, now, I can't wait to see the result of the lighting by the inside :D

    Keep it up buddy :thumb:

    Some more progress.

    YLkIdpa.jpg

There's something I don't like about the night lights atm but I can't figure out what it is. Something just seems off. Any thoughts?

Btw, vlasky, it's not really a light source, it's just a yellow box casting fg on the building to simulate street lights and cars and city life in general.
