hmm, maybe I should try wine as well, maybe then I could bring up some more patience :P

Maybe more creativity as well? Anyway, if those wines are as elaborate and awesome as the BATs, they ought to be good.

Hey what do you mean by that? :uhm::P

I can't tell if there was also a slight pun here about some program called Wine that can be possibly used to BAT. :P Wine is very delish though. Maybe that'd get me in better spirits to tediously BAT these meticulous structures. :D

Oh and loving this structure more and more.

    Hi friends!

hope everybody recover after getting plastered! ;) It seems everybody followed Girafe's advice as last uploads are really high quality...! :thumb:

I stopped (temporarily) batting details in order to test some mapping job. If the NewYork experts have any idea of the bat original colour, please ,feel free to comment! :thumb: the upper part should be equal to the lighter part!

It's looking more and more beautiful!

About it's color, if you're still wondering, I suppose I can do some research, and find maybe an article that describes its former colors back in the day. Shame that most pictures of it are still Black and White. I thought it wasn't renovated until the late 70's...so I'd figure there'd be some old color photos somewhere.

I'll see what I can find.

EDIT: I couldn't find color pictures, except for some color postcards but they were drawings. The artist's rendering of the structure might accurately depict the facade color if you want to see them. I like the color you got so far though.

What i posted one page ago might help...maybe there are some colour pics showing the building.

I wouldn't trust postcards too much...sometimes they depict colours accurately, sometimes drafters took a bit of "liberty" with them...be careful.

    Unrelated, but IMO interesting:

The modelling is exquisite. Really really beautiful.

The one thing that bugs me is the texture of the lowest three floors - the degree of dirt and smudging and "character" makes it look like a fire had broken out there and that the smoke and soot had stained the dirtiest areas. Or that the building was a bit scorched or singed...it just looks too extreme. I'm all for dirt and grime, but this looks overboard to me.

Otherwise, this will be beautiful when it pops up in-game...thumbs up!

A nice point made just above this post - just remember not going from one extreme to another ;).

Right now it somehow looks as Madhatter said - a building affected by fire or somesuch - but, with a slight tone down, i'm sure it will look right :).

Hi friends! I like the concept of fired the actual building :D . Seriously , you are very right! It is always the danger to go outside the "limits" and thank you to remind me to keep the good balance! :thumb:

I worked exclusively on the main entrance door. I don't have very good pic allowing to make an accurate copy of the door. Hereafter , some pics! Don't hesitate to comment, that is the only way to progress! Thanks again guys! :thumb:

P.S.I red somewhere that somebody was complaining 'causet he had to spend 30 ' to bat roof junks... o.O It just took me 3 days to bat this "f...ing" door :D ( sure... Gigi will say that I am very slow!)

Great stuff! What are you using to model the details? BTW at the very top of the entrace just below the three windows there is a normal that needs fixing :).

    Fantastic stuff!

My skills are not as great as you think guys! Hereafter a small tut to show how to do with these details! and everybody with patience can EASILY do the same!

    5 steps:

1- Draw the patern with a line (pic 1)

    2- Convert to editable spline

    3- select all the vertices

4- right click and check "smooth" (pic 2)

    5- extrude

Then you just have to copy in order to repeat the pattern!

That's what I thought you did. It looks awesome, truly. And your modeling skills are just as good as we think, modeling, in my opinion, is all about the details. The better you can pay attention to them, the better of a modeler you are. And you my friend pay attention to those details like a master.

On another note, idk if you guys know of this site, but if you want to see the work of true master 3d artists, http://eat3d.com/forums/artwork/work-progress, this place has some people that have left me with my jaw dropped while reading the entire thread. These are usually actual pros. Just looking at some of their work has helped me, idk if it'll help anyone else, but I'ma just put that out there.

I think everybody should go to non-SimCity sites like that one, I think you learn a lot more from them much faster than just being here. :)

I think that going to that kind of site is a lot of what's responsible for my improvement over the past few months. A lot of it was watching tutorials, but I watched most of those tutorials when I was trying to figure out how some people did one of those amazing works of 3d art.

Hi everybody! I had some pb with rendering recently and after cleaning some extra/useless poly, it seems that I can go forward! Hereafter some update , still remain to bat the 2 cornices mentioned with the red arrows and some more details on the top of the bdg! I know it"s difficult to find , but any pics of this area are welcome! I put some displaycases at the ground floor level according to what it seems to have been , but I am not 100% shure of it! In the meantime, I tried to follow the excellent Darn"s tut ,but I have to say that it"s quite difficule for me to undrestand everything...! Thanks a lot to follow and every comments are welcome!

If you are struggling with any part it probably means I didn't explain it well enough. Message me or reply to this and tell me what you don't understand so I can change the tutorial to fix it.

I'm glad you are using it and I hope it helps :)
