kbooms1w - indeed, the fine line between success and failure. If Bentley's had gone in, maybe Man Utd would still be bottom of the league!!!!! 17.gif

Ring Road Project - Phase 6 - Deptwich

Hello and welcome to all as I bring you the latest instalment in
Norwich's growth. Deptwich is at the south-eastern corner of
Norwich. Now, this is the traffic situation with which we left
    Deptwich at it's last update.........

    1Deptwich.jpg

    2Deptwich.jpg

    And now.............

    3Deptwich.jpg

Yes, a warm welcome indeed as we begin our brief tour of Norwich's
new airport - Norwich-Hatchrow International. First here, we see
Hatchrow's Passenger Terminals 1 & 2, along with the Hatchrow
    Passenger Rail Terminal............

    4Deptwich.jpg

Here is Hatchrow Airport's Cargo Terminal, on Roman Way. Also on
Roman Way is Royal Norwich Airborne Firefighters, H.M. Customs &
Excise. In shot (just) also is Hatchrow Bridge, which carries the
new M2 motorway across the River Elmer......

The runways (3 main ones, with the other smaller one closer to the
terminal buildings) of Norwich-Hatchrow by night......

    6Deptwich.jpg

Just to the north of the runways, a consortium headed by a Norwich
businessman has purchased a large section of land. The consortium
has been commissioned by the government to build a large power
station, hence a new company, Norwich Power, has been born. At
present, this power station only serves Deptwich, although it is
planned for it to serve most of Norwich as time goes by.......

    7Deptwich.jpg

Now we move our attention to the ring road itself. Here, the M130,
the motorway linking the A406 (North Circular) to the new A205
(South Circular), enters Deptwich from Maidenwell. It is flanked by
busy industrial estates and we see a very busy flyover......

    8Deptwich.jpg

Junction 1 of the A205, with the A2 which provides motorists with
access to the east of the region as well as Central Norwich via
Deptwich High Street and Kelseyheath to the west........

    9Deptwich.jpg

    A205Junction1.jpg

The new A205 has been partially built on the existing A21. At
junction 2, traffic can merge from the A21......

    10Deptwich.jpg

    A205Junction2.jpg

Junction 3a gives access to Parisian Way and the passenger
    facilities of Hatchrow Airport.....

    11Deptwich.jpg

    A205Junction3a.jpg

Parisian Way Roundabout - parking facilities & hotels, with the
terminal buildings beyond the tunnel beneath the runways.....

    12Deptwich.jpg

    ParisianWayRoundabout.jpg

Guess you can tell that Mattc005 has been at work again with these
great signs, huh? Thanks Matt!!!!! 40.gif40.gif40.gif40.gif40.gif

Ok, junction 3b gives access to the cargo terminal as well as the
international freight rail terminal. Also here are Customs and
    ferry services....

    13Deptwich.jpg

    A205Junction3b.jpg

At junction 4 motorists can rejoin the original A21 road as the
A205 turns westward. Also here is Hatchrow Golf Course....

    14Deptwich.jpg

    A205Junction4.jpg

Junction 5 is where the M2 and A202 intersect with the South
Circular. The M2 heads off south-eastward and the A202 takes
traffic into Deptwich closeby the Queen Victoria Reservoir. In view
here is NTL Tower, the headquarters of Norwich Telecommunications
Ltd. It's viewing platform enables people to see panoramic views of
the two reservoirs and the rest of south-east Norwich. NTL Tower
was built amidst determined opposition from local residents, so, to
overcome this Norwich Telecom invested in NTL Park to give
    something back to the community.......

    15Deptwich.jpg

    A205Junction5.jpg

A close-up shot of NTL Park, with an interesting art-nouveau
    clock...

    16Deptwich.jpg

The A205 passes between two industrial estates and heads west into
    the borough of Kelseyheath......

    17Deptwich.jpg

The A202 heads around the southern end of Queen Victoria Reservoir
and north towards Deptwich. On the left here is West Hatchrow Park
    + Ride.......

    18Deptwich.jpg

The shores of the twin reservoirs - particularly Prince Albert
Reservoir (the most easterly one) - are drumming up some very keen
interest from real estate developers. In shot here are the
    particularly stunning Antarian Condos........

    19Deptwich.jpg

The South Norwich Conference Centre sits on the north-western
corner of Queen Victoria Reservoir. The land directly east has been
set aside for future use - it is planned that the reservoirs are
not only used for leisure activity - but are tapped into to provide
    Norwich's water supply.....

    20Deptwich.jpg

The A202 terminates here at Montreal Square, the home of the
Casswell Indoor Stadium with it's fantastic transparent roof.
    Stunning engineering work......

    21Deptwich.jpg

    MontrealSquare.jpg

Housing with Montreal Square at the top of the diagonal road......

    22Deptwich.jpg

There are many expensive homes in Deptwich - as they are sought
after by wealthy businessmen who use them when in Norwich for work
purposes. These are close to the A205, minutes from the
    airport.....

    23Deptwich.jpg

....and these are an example of where those guys do their business!
Business has thrived since the arrival of Hatchrow Airport....

Thanks to all for the kind comments!

Dark Avatar - yes, finally got it together in between failures of internet connections. Your praise inspires me, as well as Singapore. Thanks. 44.gif

Mattc005 - yes, the signs are beuatiful - I did a good job on those didn't I?! 2.gif I meant to explain this in the update, but the reservoir I decided to split to give residents a huge yachting lake (hence the GDV Roscoe Yacht Club at the southern end). Thanks for bunnies too! (In case anyone doesn't know Mattc005 is the one really responsible for those great roadsigns!!!!!!)

    nooneatall - thanks!

ChicAgo333 - yes, it's tantalisingly close to 3 mil isn't it? Have moved above your namesake in the rankings......

Mdz1001 - thank you! You know, I believe you're the first person to comment on my soundwalls - but they're the things that take a large chunk of time! Thanks again!

Wow! Finally an update! And it's very impressive too! Took some time to read, but definitely worth it; hold on, because I have a lot of questions..
Those signs are truly great, are they on the STEX (by Mattc005)?
I wondered how you created the NTL Park with the SG trailpark: they're in grey, I only have them in red..
Those futuristic industrial structures are fantastic! They look Japanese, where did you get them?
On Montreal Square there's a strange building in the upper left corner (on the other side of the stadium) What is it? That stadium is beautiful btw, what's the name of it? And finally, the 'British' 3 story rowhouses, they really look awesome, are they on the STEX also?

You know, the problem is, (it might sound familiar..) that I have my computer stuffed with almost everything there is to download from ST (I created a downloads-dir from which I install the BAT files into the game: from time to time I take what I need, so that I don't have to ruin my plugin folder with 4000 files or so..) Problem is, I forget names and no pics are added with the BATS (few exceptions) So... I probably have the files, but don't know their names anymore, that's why I'm asking.. However, the buildings in this update are not familiar to me

Anyway, apologies for the long answer, and keep up! 35.gif35.gif35.gif35.gif35.gif35.gif

Hello utora! First off, don't worry about the long answer - I like them because it shows real interest in what I'm doing - so thank you very much. 1.gif

As for your questions - I will help in anyway I can.

Signs - I was fortunate enough that Mattc005 offered to make these for me, because mine kinda sucked and were a rush job - it wasn't until he started doing them that I realised how much they can really add to the look of a CJ, so much praise to him. I'm sure he would be kind enough to let you know where he got the tools from.......

NTL Park - this isn't done with Simgoober's creation - it was one I downloaded ages ago - I'm sure it's Park Sidewalk by suico - available at:

    https://www.simtropolis.com/lots/index.cfm?mode=files&filetype=Lot&Str=Park%20Sidewalk

Industrial structures - I think all are on STEX - Nokikana Mobile phones & semiintelligent components by prepo, Costco Distribution Center by simgoober, Fusion Incorporated by tragicomicus, Skylimit Satelite Research & CableLink by GreatDane  to name but a few. Just browse the Industry category on STEX and you will see many there. If there are any others you are interested in please point out specific ones and I'll do my best to find them for you.

The trapezoid-shaped building is EMI Records by Bandito.

Canderra Stadium - I believe from a German site, although I could be mistaken. I will try to find out for you..........

3 story houses are Lexington Homes by odd from sweden.

    Thanks again!

I've always liked this city, but I haven't commented. Perhaps because I'm used to lurking (I visit a lot of forums I only read).

I like this city perhaps mostly because it has a fairly realistic scale to it, as far it's possible in simcity; 12x12km for 3 million people isn't too unfeasible, at least not with simcity - what with it's 72 people in a 2 (or is it 3 floor?) floor, 16x16m apartment.
    Thumbs up!44.gif

Thanks for commenting - I'm glad you like Norwich enough to prompt you to do so!!! 1.gif The introduction of the ring road and suburbs with it have meant a more realistic city in terms of population/square mile or kilometre (whichever you prefer). I do try to go for realism wherever possible (ie. restaint in use of highways in central areas, as this is something not often seen in UK cities because of their age)

    Thanks again! 44.gif

    News At Ten

Good evening everyone and welcome to News At Ten. On tonight's news:

CONRIP have completed one of their major projects - in the heart of the docklands.............
Norwich Power have expanded their operation to provide power to the borough of Maidenwell.............
And we hear from Mayor George, as Norwich hits a population of 3 million people...........

Ok, first our cameramen took the opportunity to capture the image of the industrial area just south of Great Western Dock, as the bulldozers moved in....

    19Maidenwell.jpg

And now the completed project. After enormous investment by both the City and it's three chief resident companies - Corporation Wharf is seen here in early evening. Packed with traffic - it's centrepiece is a statue of Mr C. Onman, chairman of CONRIP. Along with the fountains and it's surrounding water feature - Corporation Wharf makes an inspirational sight for young and veteran executives alike.......

    21Maidenwell.jpg

    The buildings of Corporation Wharf:

The dark building here is the Head Office of Norwich Union Plc. Everything from home to motor insurance products, life insurance and pensions, stocks, shares and bonds. Norwich Union offers a
complete package to take comprehensive care of your financial needs......

    22Maidenwell.jpg
This building here is the Norwich Corporate Banking HQ. This is the place where the world's banking and finance wizards count the beans, of not only major banks and corporations but other nations
    and governments........

    23Maidenwell.jpg

This building, with it's marble stairway out front belongs to M.C. Highways Corporation - the company responsible for the upkeep of all of Norwich's highways and the creation of it's
    roadsigns.........

    24Maidenwell.jpg
    The plush M.C. Highways Corporation.........

    25Maidenwell.jpg
    Corporation Wharf......

    26aMaidenwell.jpg

    26bMaidenwell.jpg

    Docklands - redeveloped.........

    27Maidenwell.jpg

So, the docklands grows ever more impressive. Now, we move on to Norwich Power. It was agreed that they would now cover Maidenwell's power requirements, thus releasing space in the borough for
redevelopment. Maidenwell Council calculated that the borough uses about 75,000 MWh (Megawatts per hour). So, to cover this additional pressure, they have built electrical generators 5 and 6.......

    28Deptwich.jpg

As a result, the two existing power plants in Maidenwell have been removed, and the areas have been re-used. One was in the docklands, near to where Corporation Wharf is now. At the other site,
    Riverside Zoo has arrived........

    29Maidenwell.jpg

H.M. Prison Maidenwell (in docklands) has been demolished and a new facility located by the Blackwater Tunnel Southern Approach (M130).........

    30Maidenwell.jpg

These changes, as we see here, have resulted in lower power wastage......

    31Maidenwell.jpg

Now, we speak to Mayor George in an exclusive interview. There is a great deal of rejoicing tonight at Norwich City Hall, as it was announced that Norwich has reached 3 million residents. It's a
dream come true, Mayor George said. To think that this was once just a wild notion - a utopian idea, now to actually see it grow in the flesh is an amazing rush of emotion. The best feeling
imaginable. Mayor George was also keen to highlight the impact the support of his advisors: The help and advice offered at every step has been crucial to the project's success thus far, and, of course,
the practical assistance offered by Mattc005 and his company, M.C. Highways Corporation, who has helped take Norwich to the next level of transportation and presentation.
However, despite being clearly delighted by today's events, the Mayor refused to get carried away, and is under absolutely no illusions about what lies ahead. We'll have our party tonight,
maybe have a day off then it's straight back to work. There is a lot of hard work ahead of us. The Ring Road project is in full swing and entering it's final phases, and we are working closely
with CONRIP to find ways in which to bring more tourism to the city. One project in particular is in it's final planning phase and we hope to unveil it VERY soon. Of course, the city will continue
to grow outward - there is still an awful lot of open space beyond our current city limits free for us to put to good use!

    Norwichoverview41.jpg
    Norwichoverview42.jpg

Well, that's all for now from the beautiful city of Norwich. Have a wonderful evening. Thank you, and goodnight.

Wow! what an impressive update! I really love the water-inlets (is that the right word? my English isn't superb), must have taken you some time to create them the way they are now! My compliments, they look stunning! Did you create them after godmode? or did you have this all planned out before you started? Love the skyline too; btw, I heard some rumours (and I want to stress that it's just a RUMOUR) that Mattc's Highways Corporation has some secret plans of expanding it's hegemony to New Holland! That region has reached a population of 50.000 now, and the need for highways and an intelligent roadsign-system becomes more urgent now....
I particularly love the highrises on the small strips of land (between the inlets), and especially the combination of just a few highrises in a lowdensity residential zone (with lots of green), as can be seen in the lower right corner of the Docklands overview (just east to the RodaJC Parkstad Limburg Stadium)
Don't you love that waterflora mod? I know I do!35.gif35.gif35.gif35.gif35.gif
EDIT: Did you know that Roda is short for: Recht Op het Doel Af? which means something like: Straight towards the goal. It would be awesome if someone would create the Amsterdam Arena (the first stadium in the world with a moveable roof)... or what to think of Wembley...
EDIT:  forgot to ask: what are your system specificities? I've got an AMD Athlon 2600+, 80 Gb Harddrive, 1024 Mb RAM, and (soon) a GeForce 5700 graphix card (128 Mb). Just curious if I could create such a massive region too..

Your city is truley insperational, I love the signs did you do it using photoshop and the highway agency site cos if you did it's very hard. I belive the font they use is areial bold but I'm not sure. I live in Great Yarmouth and have just been to Gorleston for a day. I love Norwich I lived in Costessey for about six months on Highlow Road near the library.

Your city has really grown very big!6.gif How long did you spend building up such a densly populated region? It seems like you took ages to build up such a wonderful place. I especiallly like the transportation map. It seems so well planned and attractive I suppose, not too gritty and not too unplanned. Anyways, keep up the good job. The CJ is looking great.44.gif

Seems the M.C. Highways Corporation will be needing a bigger headquarters soon, with all that new business undertakings, you better make sure to clear a nice space somewhere in Norwich...
    Keep up the good work
