Is This What Simcity Will Look Like?

This is an example of a city simulator with the CryEngine game engine. I know SC13 isn't using this engine, and I know that we know practically nothing about this game, but I just had to share this. The graphics are stunning

The music is pretty good too...

Simcity with those graphics would definitively kill my social like (if i ever had one). However i am pretty sure we'll have to wait a couple of years if not a whole decade before CPUs will be enough powerful to sustain those graphics, consider that a city could sprawl for various kilometers...

Crysis 2 is notorious for its high end requirements. And given SC13's system requirements (at the minimum), I can safely say that it won't look like Crysis 2.

It looks amazing, but I really hope this is not what it's going to look like, my current PC already has severe graphic problems with SC4, it just wouldn't survive that..

No. SC2013 is going to be far more colorful and stylized.

I don't expect that this would move in the PC market. That surely took a much bigger machine than you can buy at your local computer store.

You are all probably right. I don't see this happening any time soon

You have to admit, it is quite nice though.

I think something like a measly $ 10,000 would be enough to buy something to run it ...

Could get a new mobo with dual-xeon processor with four graphics cards in quad-sli scheme and maybe 32Gb of ram, it is clear that the basic liquid-cooled, placed in an enclosure with two power supplies 1000 watts ...

Now being serious ... will not be anything like that. These things always remind the snippets of film of the oldest games of strategy, with epic battles of thousands, when in fact the normal computers at that time, could only travel a few tens of sprites on the screen without getting paralyzed.

    That's a bit much.

This is the same engine used for Crysis 2 and the recommended requirements for that are a 2.66 GHz Core 2 duo, 3 GB of RAM, and a GTX 280/HD 4870. When you think about it, this isn't all that bad.

Maybe SC8 or 9 will be like this. Most of the players do not have a 'puter to handle this much "imaging" and it would cost an arm or two anyways to get one to be able to play it like a game.

I only hope that SC2013 will be at least like Tropico 4 or The Settlers 7. These Euro games have stunning details and play easily on even older computers. I know, I play with both of them all the time, and my computer is 6 years old. ;)

Graphics have not been finished yet. The graphics engine is unknown and the current one might not be the same as final. CryEngine is a (remote) possibility. All we do know is how the coal power plant and some factories look.

^And even those, we only have a general idea. We know that we will likely see boxes and conveyer belts moving in factories, but we don't know how the factories themselves will look.

I could see something similar to the video posted above being a mainstream reality by Simcity6. I'd predict 2017.

All though i loved the graphics in the video, i really hope SC13 gets the gameplay right, with graphics that match CXL.

I want! That is something that would challenge my comp. Nothing has been about to slow it down yet. I had to abuse tessellation on a model in 3d studio to make my computer chug. That was with Elements and Zune running as well.

    Specs:

    Asus Rampage iv extreme

    intel 3930k

    32gb ram

    crossfire xfx 7970s

    20gb ssd

    1.5tb hdd

I air cool this with 4 chassis fans. The CPU has a Phanteks cooler, and each GPU has two fans built into in. I built this almost a month ago.

Edit: I agree on the bloom, I actually disable it in games. I really dislike the use of that effect in games thus far. Always over done.

I definiotely believe graphics like those would be what sc5 should have, but the computing power required... must be extraordinary!

Haha with the way gaming is going, in a decade all we will have is CityVille for Facebook3..

Some office type jobs, telecommuting jobs, could be virtually done. So we could work and play at the same time, working in a virtual office in our own city.

Very cool graphics! They are certainly narrowing the gap between real and make-believe. The city looked too clean though. :D

Good point, I would have liked to see some factories and smog in there, but from what we saw it was pretty good.

If UDI was in the game, I would want it to be like it is at the end. That looked really good, a lot better than SC4.

The line between reality and simulation has been blurred again. We now have the technology to move avatars with our minds as if we were walking ourselves (or by walking around on a moving platform if we still send signals to our limbs, instead of being "sleep paralyzed" or amputated), we can have full field of view vision helmets or lightweight stereoscopic glasses.
