Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
iEatRazorz replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I didn't even consider that facet. Ugh. Sad thing is, we all know it will happen. There are websites that sell hacks for BF3, and Dice/EA has done nothing to fix this problem. Yea, I'm looking forward to that bs... -

I agree totally. I think Treyarch has what it takes to make this the next COD4. Black Ops1 showed some progress and now after the IW fiasco Treyarch can do something special without having to live under a shadow. I havn't looked forward to a game as much as this since NWN2, and that was simply because it was an Obsidian take on a Bioware game. I respect your opinion. It does have a massive potential to fail hard if handled wrong.

I don't know how to respond to this... kinda puzzled by it. I'm also the kind of person who would love to live in the woods and off the land though. Technology is to integrated into everything we do. To move because you don't internet is laughable to me. I was having a conversation with my friend not that long ago. These digital games and all this DLC is gonna bite us. Have always said that about MMOs, that's why I don't invest in em. I'm not sinking time or money into a game to loose it all. What happens when you loose all the DLC you paid for and it is no longer hosted. What happens when the games you paid for are no longer hosted? For consoles and no backwards compatibility means your losing all that stuff. It's gonna be an interesting show when it does happen. -
Maxis posted a new blog on fire. I found it amusing. The message I took away from it, I no longer have to dispatch trucks. As we all expected the stations will modular. In the video he causally lets a set of houses burn down: http://www.simcity.c...-fire-or-did-we I look forward to burning a city down now... "The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire. We don't need no water let the !@^%$#% burn. Burn !@^%$#%, burn." I can see many cities with traffic problems burning down.

Women grabs your clubs, your boyfriends will be glued to the TVs once more! =P "Intel" has been dropping for a while now on the follow up to Treyarch's Black Ops. It's no surprise to anyone that new a new Call of Duty is coming out, but what they've revealed is. I'm excited for it. The first surprise it offers up is showing Woods, who was thought dead to those who didn't explore the intel in the first game, in a wheel chair. Old as dirt with an oxygen tank he gives way to the concept for the new story. In the not distant future Americas "Army of Drones" have been hacked and are now destroying our cities. You will play from the 80's right up into 2025. The only known playable character right now is D. Mason. Perhaps Alex Masons son? The graphics look moderately better, but who expected a major upgrade? If what Treyarch is promising comes out as expected, we will have a fun title to explore. The campaign is suppose to have branching story lines, zombies a massive face lift, and they want to bring the multiplayer into the E-Games arena. Honestly I'm sick of zombies overall. Zombies in our books. Zombies in our movies. Zombies in our games. ZOMBIES IN MY ALPHABET SOUP! Really, I'm sick of em. The series needs something refreshing and this could very well be it. I've been playing since the start of the series and Black Ops is by far my most played and favorite. I still play it more then most other games. What we know: http://mp1st.com/cat...ty/black-ops-2/ http://pc.ign.com/ar.../1224070p1.html Between more information on SimCity, C&C Generals (being done like the old Westwood titles), and Black Ops 2 I'm looking forward to E3. All that I need now is another D&D CRPG built on 3.5 and I won't have a life. What do you all think about this?

That conflicts with this: It is still virtual real estate. Just 1s and 0s. Because it is just a game, and EA can claim ownership of anything on it's services, we have no rights as to what is done with it. It falls under the same umbrella as all other "virtualized" items. Your simply licensed to use it, and thats it. In EA's eyes, you have no rights, just privileges. If you were paying for space on EAs severs then you would have an argument. "Virtualization" is progress in profit, a continuous revenue stream. How long before your only being licensed one year of use for a game? If it's on a sever, you have no control over that. Part of the code for Blizzards Diablo 3 is on servers, they are half way there. Progression for games is generally the hardware they're played on, and how they're played. The concepts explored, and the visual presentation. "Virtualization" is the attachment of a for profit ball and chain. It benefits the consumer very little. -
I started out watching my dad play on the Atari and Coleco Vision. I started playing on the NES and DOS3.1 which I still have the manuals for =P NES: Mario (DUH!), Zelda and Star Tropics 1 & 2: DOS: Police Quest, SimEarth, and Warcraft 2 I moved on to the SNES and the only game I would go back to play now would be Gaia: An amazing game for it's time. I think it could survive a remake. Star Tropics not so much. I also use to play Commander Keen on my grandparents computer and a doom on a friends. Primal Rage was also played a lot.

A constructive talk about griefing in multiplayer
iEatRazorz replied to iEatRazorz's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Perhaps it could come down to a simulated vote of the population. If the vote is on pollution, Sims living cities affected by someone else's pollution would be more like to vote for a rise in a pollution tax. Sims in a city producing it less likely to want an increase. -

Ugh rewriting this for the second time... I was gonna post this in another topic, but it's a wall of text and I want to discuss the solutions to the possible problems. Maxis gave credence to our fears of multiplay trolling. Laughed even, imagine that. Honestly though, who wouldn't chuckle at some of the stuff they are probably seeing. We're all gamers here, we know how we can be. For better or worse, it's human nature to practice the occasional dickery. This is a good thing though. "... wait ... why?" you might be asking. Well simply put, it's better that Maxis sees this stuff now. It's gives them time to come up with solutions. Maybe even creative ways to punish those who wish to practice this sort of thing. Given what they are trying to create it has to make sense within the context of the game. They can't just cobble together some stuff and be like that's that. No, I think the prevention should land in our laps... "?????????" It's okay, you can throw those hands down. Hear me out. It is a simulation after all. I want the gavel. This is what I propose: Offsetting Costs: If someone is polluting a boarder of my city the game should be able to determine what percentage of that is coming from their city. This would give the game a number on how many parks I need to offset that pollution. The neighbor would pay the monthly bill of all parks built in that area up to the determined number. This could go for water pollution and crime as well. Fires, well you should be taking care of that on your own. What if fires spread city to city? A fire starts in mine, destroys $350 worth of next doors stuff, guess what happens. I give them $350. These options could be voted on every time a new player enters the region. or Tax EM!: You could be confronted with a menu upon region creation. There you could set up tax options for all aforementioned problems. Whenever someone new comes into the region a vote is taken on these options. The taxes are proportionally split between those affected. Next on my list is city abandonment. Someone comes into the game, spends a few hours building a hellhole. They then disappear forever. Leaving a scar on the region. If they don't come back within a set time frame (voted on) the remaining players take a vote: 1: to demolish it. 2: to assume control, and who takes it on. That brings up a new concern. What happens if your not on for awhile and your city is foreclosed on? It's moved to the server and you can plop it down in a new region. Of course, this bring ups the question of do people what to really get rid of any benefits that city is actively providing. Voting would prevent a governor figure and keep us all at mayor level. Honestly I am looking forward to hearing some horror stories and how people creatively deal with it. That's all I got for now. I'm sure I'll think of some more. What ways do you think are appropriate for dealing with trolls, or atleast deterring them? -

Can't forget that most applications have opt outs. In all reality, I believe opt outs should be required by law. -

May I suggest a mass petition as a starting point written and developed by the community. After the document is written and finalized, submission to media outlets would probably be a good idea. Just a thought. Here's a start. Declaration for a Change of EA's Practices An Exercise in Consumer Rights Electronic Arts have proven themselves incapable of fair treatment towards their customers and their rights. Putting profit before fair practices they regularly slight those who purchase their goods and services. They use broad terms in their legal agreements in an attempt to circumvent legal retaliation. Said legal agreements are not presented in a manner that all age groups fully understand the gravity of accepting such terms. Such practices have garnered bad press, but the pressure has not been enough to convince a reasonable change, nor has the exposure of such instances been portrayed in a mass consumed media outlet. This will be the first attempt in producing a fair environment for EA and their customers. Although EA is not the only corporate entity to employ these methods, they are our primary focus for now. Before we delve into the questionable practices at hand, I would like to state this is a document written by many people, not one. This document is here to represent a wide array of concerns as best possible, things will be stated in simple as terms possible to avoid becoming cumbersome. Point of Concern Number One: -
SimCity: Multiplayer Discussion
iEatRazorz replied to Vahr's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I find it depressing that one has to safeguard their personal computer from commercial software. There should not be under any circumstance that I need isolate a program on a separate partition to quarantine it. Quarantines are for viral outbreaks such as raging bovine, frothing pig and stuttering hoof. I has come down to a point where everyone wants a piece of that digital gold that advertisers lust after. I partially blame search engines for this. I now when installing most software have to opt out of programs that are for the "betterment" of the consumer experience. Norton Antivirus for example logs everything people run on their machines, more forgivable for obvious reasons then EA doing so. I would love to build a set of regions that influence my own personal and isolated economy. -
