Fantastic work so far! I love how you've put so much effort into each scene, as well as the extra MMPs you've made. They all fit together so well! I'm wondering where you got those Indian BATs you made into MMPs, as they'd really come in handy in the next phase of my own CJ...

zahrul3: Nice custom lotting there! Your choice of BATs fits the CJ like a glove... and you made it historically and fundamentally accurate!!

Thanks! I'm still getting the hang of LE, but I think it ads quite a bit to the scene.

Benedict: Congratulations - you're number one on Ben's Top Ten this week!

Wow, such an honor! Thank you Ben, and thanks to everyone for all the great comments and feedback.

City_Master: Great to see that they are making the most use out of the land! Now all the food requirements for the city :)

Yep, farming is always an important part of any early settlement - New SorGun is no different.

packersfan: Well you may have taken inspiration from me, but you are certainly carving your own incredible natural growth. It is far better than mine ever was! Great work!

Thanks - although I have a long way to go to get anywhere near your CJ.

Thanks LastTrueChamp - It has been a while and I apologize. I was busy with a few side projects - mainly the that I recently uploaded and a complete overhaul of my Mayor Mode flora menu. I was getting tired of scrolling for ages back and forth - so I stuck each MMP file in Reader and re-ordered everything. It was quite a project - but worth it! And in doing so, I decided to take the plunge into Seasonal Flora. You will have to judge for yourself in the next update, but I am pretty happy with the results. I think it is amazing what some Modders and BATers have been able to come up with regarding the seasonal flora.

@colco2121: That is the - I think it is the most realistic plop-able water available. I did a little tutorial a while back - plopping it can be tricky sometimes.

    @Schulmantor: Thanks!

@City_Master: I wonder what SimDeer tastes like.

    @sim_link: Thanks!

    @MamaLuigi: Thanks!

Update 10 is in the works - should be out in the next few days :)

    Update 10: Hermits and Homesteading

    Fall/Winter 1854

The settlements and towns around New SorGun were anything but urban – but for some folks, ‘saying hello to the neighbors’ required a few days journey. Although the Homestead Act wouldn’t be passed until 1861, the groundwork had already been laid and homesteading was a way of life for many settlers in the SorGun territory.

Let’s take a closer look at a few of the more remote citizens in the region.

    update100map.jpg

Old man Nug moved to the area a year and a half ago. Nobody is quite sure why he filed his claim on the hills west of New SorGun, but he quickly built his home near the river and the northern most hill.

    update101nughillcloseup.jpg

Nugs Hill, as it came to be known, offered a great view of the surrounding area, and a lookout was built atop the hill closest to Nug’s cabin in order to keep a watch over the waterways leading up to New SorGun.

    update102nughilllookout.jpg

Finally, a little animation showing the changing seasons over the past year.

    update103nughillanimati.gif

Moving south, Farmer Ben was the first to make claim on the flat and fertile soil along the Rannug River. Ben was always very organized and very careful about keeping lists full of numbers. Most folks thought he was a bit eccentric, but quite a friendly fellow, and well-liked by everybody in town. As the temperature turned cold, Farmer Ben had a sturdy cabin over his head, and big plans for the following spring.

    update104farmerben.jpg

Not much is known about the Fox family. Mrs. Fox visits town now and again for supplies and tools – she seems to run a strict household. Their cabin is a good two days travel in the hills southeast of New SorGun.

    update105mine.jpg

It is rumored that Mr. Fox is an excellent hunter – folks at the Crossroads saloon say he got a 20 point buck after the last snowfall.

    update106hunting.jpg

A little closer look around the Fox cabin reveals a secret on the hillside…

    update107mine2.jpg

But that isn’t the only secret in New SorGun. Earlier in the spring, a party stopped by town – said they were heading north. At the time nobody paid much attention, as folks would stop in town every so often before heading further north into the wilderness. Most were Gold miners or trappers – perhaps these folks were doing the same. Nobody in town can remember their name now. That will soon change.

    update108swamp.jpg

Sorry for the lack of timely updates – Summer + side projects + bla bla bla, you get the picture. Hope you enjoyed the update – I’m really starting to like these seasonal flora options. Hopefully I’ll get better at using them. Any and all feedback is welcome - Thanks for stopping by!

Your attention to detail is fantastic, your organization skills flow well with the surrounding area, and the MMP selection is impeccable.

City_Master: It must get a bit lonely for some living so far out from town!

The winters look very cold too! Everything covered in snow!

Love the wetlands in the last picture! :D

Thank you for the compliment - I was especially happy with the wetlands. Don't worry - more to come in that area :)

Update 11: Four years of Progress

    Fall/Winter 1855

It’s been four years since the first settlers boarded the boat in Portland, Oregon and set sail into the unknown. Since the first crude log cabins were erected on SorGun Harbor, the region has seen plenty of growth and development. The small communities of Materburg and Junction have sprouted since then as well. Let’s take a look at this thriving little region as it stands in 1855.

    update110sorgunsatellit.jpg

Our first stop is Materburg and the surrounding area. The forests are slowly giving way to Farms, and the lands along Mater Creek are proving to be very furtile.

    update111matercreekfarm.jpg

The forests immediately surrounding Materburg are also being pushed back, giving new arrivals a chance to build homes and start their new life.

    update112materburgcabin.jpg

Some of the early farmers in Materburg have done quite well for themselves.

    update113materburgfarm.jpg

Small cottages are giving way to multi-story farmhouses and outbuildings.

    update114materburgfarm.jpg

Before we move on, here is a quick overview of Materburg at the end of 1855.

    update115materburgoverv.jpg

It has been a big year for the bustling town of New SorGun. In order to accommodate more shipping, the town pooled their resources over the past winter and built a proper pier.

    update116sorgunpier.jpg

Now, New SorGun has become a regular stop for ships passing up and down the western coast of the US.

    update117sorgunpier.jpg

The increase in visitors has been a boon for business in town.

    update119sorgunmainst.jpg

The Walker Family has done very well for themselves, their farmland is slowly being developed and has given rise to the first 3 story buildings in the entire region.

    update118sorgunmainst.jpg

The lumber business has also been very productive. The logging camps across the harbor have built permanent workers cabins to house all the loggers working in the surrounding forests.

    update1110sorgunlogging.jpg

During the day, the area is bustling with activity.

    update1111logging.jpg

Finally, a look at the progress New SorGun has made over the past 4 years.

(animation – open in new window if not working)

    update1112overviewanima.gif

It was hard not to add more pictures, but I didn’t want to clutter things up too much. Thanks for stopping by, and feedback is always welcome. Thanks!

Well, this is my favorite CJ on Simtropolis ...

There are no my comments here before this one, but I like it from a first page ...

There are many my favorite rural buildings here ( by OP4, AKS OMC, etc.).

Good luck and waiting more ...

It is always a lot of fun to see a new New SorGun update. I really love watching the animation on the end. This is definitely inspiring me and tempting me to test a region with natural-ish growth. Don't think it would turn out as well, I think I wouldn't have the patience for it. :P

I absolutely love the time-lapse animation at the end. It just shows how far New SorGun has come since its founding, and how much potential the future holds for it. Will we be seeing New Sorgun progress into the twentieth and twenty-first centuries eventually?

New SorGun has grown quite a bit. It has been wonderful to watch the development that has happened throughout the last four years. I eagerly await more; I always look forward to seeing new entries from this CJ. :)

I don't know if I've said this, but your CJ is such an inspiration! I've been preparing for a natural growth CJ since the beginning of this year, downloading content and searching every page of the LEX and STEX. I hope to make my CJ as good as yours and Sandalwood, by Marsh.

Thank you! I had a lot of fun putting that animation together and I'm very happy with the end result. Yes, my goal is to bring this region up to the present day - how or when, I have no idea, but that is the ultimate goal.

Amazing! New Sorgun has grow so much since the first entry! That pier looks great, the town is getting huge! :D

3 level houses? Great progress! :D

Thanks! I was happy with how the pier turned out as well - there aren't very many options for older looking sea ports, so thanks to ionionion for that!

    Next time...
