Tried this on the official Sim City forum, but photos didn't work:

This was a popular thread when CitiesXL was developed. Not sure how much good it did, but lets try it again.

I can imagine some people easily posting a few thousand pictures of what they'd like to see in SC5. :P

I'd suggest that everybody limit themselves to just one or maybe two pictures of something they'd really like to see in the game, with a good explanation why… a little like the BAT request thread.

Personally, I'd like to see an Asian tile set similar to what was in SC3K. The biggest complaint I had about SC4 was the lack of non-western architecture... we had to make it all ourselves. Hopefully Maxis'll take care of it this time round.

800px-Newcastle_view.jpg

Newcastle, New South Wales which I visited last week. The foreshore has undergone a lot of revitalisation work in the last two decades, but it is still the World's largest coal port. You can see the cathedral atop the hill as well as the tower at the wharf. The city has a lot of art deco architecture, something SC is not a stranger to.

220px-Newcastle_1950.jpg

A tram in Newcastle in the late forties. They aren't around any more. Trams are something I've wanted in SC for years. Also the architecture of streetscapes like this.

Oh my god that freeway.

Definitely want to see what was in that asian picture above.

My additions:

Lower Wacker in Chicago, IL. I'd love for the ability to really play around with the vertical aspect of networks. Roads reaching over and under other roads with just as much control as surface thoroughfares. The ability for a tunnel to curve and be placed on otherwise flat terrain. And as a kicker, whole underground cities a la the exaggerated Chicago underground, or like Old New York in Futurama.

Sheikh_Zayed_Grand_Mosque_Abu_Dhabi_United_Arab_Emirates_03-600x339.jpg

A muslim architecture pack, like the London DLCs seen on the store. There is absolutely gorgeous architecture in the middle east, and this is a field where even the modding community has yet to really embark into.

275px-Mulberry_Street_NYC_c1900_LOC_3g04637u_edit.jpg

Pre-car eras. There is a small community within the SC4 community of people who try to recreate more historical settings, either in the 1800s between the era of railroads and cars, or even further back into the middle ages. This could easily be done by offering a way to build pedestrian streets that buildings and houses can be built to face, and perhaps a DLC with horse and pushcart automata.

Jacksunny, what freeway is that? Seriously.

Google says this is the Santa Monica Frwy - Sepulveda and it´s photoshopped.

Suburbia_2_6027.jpg

suburbia.jpg

I94WF00Z.jpg

Simply the ability to build enormous suburban areas. American-style. I like to build Los Angelish cities. :)

---

stockholm.jpg

Good waterfronts. No more empty grassy areas next to your CBD!

We should be able to build a few meters out in the water.

manchester-rd-parking-a-0614072.jpg

Cars parked on the sides of the street.

Actually, realistic parking in general for once. It's one of the biggest concerns for most big cities in the Western world. There's no parking anywhere?!

If there's only a demand/resource for parking in the GlassBox Engine then it should not be hard to implement roadside parking. Just add an extra "lane" to the road that are for parking instead of driving. I still dream of the Multiple Lane Feature and hopes something similar will make it into SC13.

champaign_parking_garage.jpg

calatrava03.jpg

Of course we need parking lots and parking garages too then.

These shouldn't be eye-candy. They should be crucial for your city.

Strip malls!!

Should be built if you zone low density commercial large enough.

hohensee-walking-path.jpg

Can't forget these. Walking paths! In European suburbs it's very common to only have walking paths in certain areas. It could be the only way to reach an apartment building or it could just be a shortcut.

Snow (and weather in general)

41671305.jpg

This was originally going to be Tundra/Arctic, but I would like all kinds of different terrain types in SC5. Snow would be harder to mod into the game than a simple terrain texture change with some custom fauna, so I would like falling and lying snow to come with the base game.

Waterfalls

SaltoAngel1.jpg

Not absolutely necessary, but would be nice

Less compact Power Plants...

ratcliffeonsoar.jpg

I love my industrials, and I'd like to see Power Plants look slightly more robust than the tiny things you got in previous SimCity's.

I see a lot of these pictures and think, hey SC4 already has those, but most of these things are of course additions made by the SimCity community. It would be great to see them in the original copy of SC5, and then we can add more realism and hone what they give us.

Oh yes, waterfalls. And to tie in to the above requests for weather/landscapes and add on to my above request for middle eastern architecture: deserts!

I'm with El Burro. Mmmm, industry. The buildings in SC4 don't really represent the real scale of power plants and single factories, which can be the size of whole city blocks or even neighborhoods (or bigger).

I want to make an industrial city, one that is not simply populated by many tiny (6x6? pfft) buildings, but a massive complex like many a industrial colossus in Detroit (and any other big city).

66969.jpg

Of course, I'd settle for early 20th century style w2w industry too... We're still working on that... Actually W2W in general would be awesome. It is something that pops up anywhere in the world you go, it's sort of silly to think it has never really been in simcity.

How about some Rice Paddies for Asian style cities?

And more realistic military bases would be nice too.

high-gas-prices.jpg

I would love to see Gas Stations in-game to have editable prices on their signs, that pends on the prices of gas in the in-game economy, or for you to edit if they don't plan on adding gas into the economy or if they have a sandbox mode. But they should make sure only numbers will be allowed for in-game realistic prices, so people don't screw around and put this: armleg2.jpg

Ahhh yes, bridges. The game will have curvy roads, so it better have curvy bridges as well.

curvy-bridge.jpg

Another thing that just popped into my head...realistic coal mines and power plants. Here is the Genesee Power Station, a coal power plant that powers much of Alberta, my house included. Notice the difference between it and the SC4 one? There is also a cooling pond, something that SC4 lacks.

fortpp_04.jpg

Sorry about the small image, it was the only one I could find that showed the entire plant when it wasn't under construction.

The mine...

genessee1.jpg

I'm not quite sure what the exact dimensions of the draglines are, but the base is the size of a small house. They are also very tall. My house is about 20km away from the power plant and I can still see the draglines.
