Mystery items? Super Hero HQ? Evil villain lair? :nyah: That sounds more SimCity Societies-ish to me than anything else... :uhm:

I'm confused as to how Origin actually works. Is it like streaming the game onto your computer, or do you just download the game through Origin?

The game is installed to your computer. When you install the game (if from a disk) you would register an account with Origin and then activate the game through that. (so you have to connect to the internet at least once to activate.)

If you purchase the digital download version then you would install the Origin client first and then download the game.

Origin also searches for patches every time that it runs so that your game is kept up to date.

You purchase and download the game through Origin. It's pretty much exactly the same as Steam.

Agreed. One wonders if this is just a lot of hype when it comes to serious city building.

We are allowed to have some fun in this game... even for the 'serious city builders'... no we don't want Auto-Saurus Rex, to come into our city breathing fire, every time we play.... however some days it just might be nice to have that option.

The key is the word 'option' as long as we can turn it on or off as we please why all the pant bunching?

Frankly I am getting quite tired of all this 'it is going to be like SCS' nonsense... we have not seen the game yet, ... yet people are being so quick to pronounce their negative judgement on something that they no knowledge of what the final product will actually look like.

We've seen superheroes since SC2k (Maxis-Man) and villains since at least Sim City 4 (Dr. Vu)

I wouldn't worry about it too much.

My thoughts exactly. Yes, they've used a few "Societies"-like terms, but really, some of the same mechanics have been a part of SC4 and earlier installments. There's nothing new there. We're also still looking at concept art.

It looks to me like my prediction earlier this week is true:

Knowing how these sorts of things go, I think regardless of how the announcement goes, even if this game is just what the doctor ordered, there will be some bellyaching.

Actually, I think there are some people who just like to p and moan and belly-ache because that is what they always do, and they get some kind of perverse satisfaction from p-ing on other peoples hard work... and that it somehow it inflates their own self importance.

Unfortunately there are plenty negative people and nay sayers in life, and they are here on this forum too, those that will always look at the glass and say it is half full, or find something to criticize. I guess that is just the way they are even if it annoys the crap out of the rest of us.

EA charging for DLC that was in simcity 3000 at no extra cost.

Actually, said extra sets were released in SimCity 3000 Unlimited, the "more complete" version of SC3K, which you DID have to pay for. You had to re-buy basically the entire game (which had a new intro scene, terrain editing, BAT, but, inexplicably, one of the best tracks removed)

Mystery items? Super Hero HQ? Evil villain lair? :nyah: That sounds more SimCity Societies-ish to me than anything else... :uhm:

Every SimCity does have something a bit whimsical about it (well, there was the "SuperSim" in SC2K, as well as the Braun Llama Dome), and SimCity Castle in SC3K. So a Superhero HQ is not out of the ordinary. Except for the fact that usually Superhero headquarters are usually in undisclosed areas (or at least far enough away from well, cities). But an Evil Villain Lair? Engh......

~ COMING SOON! Exciting new projects! ~

SimCity 4 does have the Area 5.1... which Dr. Vu refers to as his "evil headquarters". :P

^True, but that is optional and it gives you money. The SC5 description makes it sound like this stuff is in every city, whether you like it or not. Hopefully this will not be the case.

My mother used the term B* (dog whine) and moan since before my sister was 8 (I think I was 9 at the time and we are 2.4 years apart).

Superheros were an idea for an expansion pack back on the Tilted Mill forums because they fit the "fun cartoon kiddy game" feel.

Maxis Man/Super Sim (Captain Hero in SC2000 but Drawn Together ruined that) has been around for a long time and Dr. Vu was prominent in Rush Hour but unless I preorder, I am going to choke my neighbor's super sims out with my "Industrial Powerhouse" though that is probably what my city would look like if I have Doctor Vu's lair.

I wouldn't charge or pay, and would agree with the OP that it would destroy something that makes this community a good one.

DLC is fine with me as long as official DLC and 3rd party (community made) plug-ins and mods are allowed alongside the DLC (which is what The Sims franchise does). I probably will not pay for any copy with superheroes though I would enjoy a Preorder discount on the standard edition.

DLC are okay if they're large and few.

Each of the British, French & German DLC should consist of over/around 100 different buildings (EACH!).

If it's only like 2 small villas, 2 apartments and a school, then naaaah.

I'm not sure I'd go to the extreme of over 100 each for them to be worth it, but certainly not if they're only a handful of buildings. Provide enough to be able to alter the feel of the city as a whole, and I'm definitely down for it.

In a server based game with only a client-PC, a DLC might just be a list of permissions (ACLs). The repository of actual lots/models would be on the server only. User created content would have to be added there.

I'd rather not see Civ V's mod browser, or at least allow us to get mods the old fashioned way. A lot of times mods in Civ V's browser end up being terribad, and you can't really tell until after you get it. Or they may not even work at all. It's times like these when the existing infrastructure like Civ Fanatics for Civ or Simtrop for Sim City still end up being superior because of community voting, comment systems, and evolving interface to handle the evolution of mod building.

There seems to be some kind of consensus building on a custom content "store" with, perhaps, pay as you go. How do people feel about that?

Would payment be in "points" or real $$?

EA is bound to use "points", to avoid the issues with exchange rates.

Since EA is domiciled in the U.S. I see no reason not to use U.S. dollars. The payment agency (credit card, Pay Pal) does the exchange.

Another reason to use points is that they make more money off of inexact conversions resulting in points that never get used for anything.

Credit card companies also charge per transaction, so consolidating purchases by selling points will cost EA less in transaction fees.

They are charging $60 for this 'mystery items', 'new characters', 'crime waves', 'super hero HQ', and 'evil villain lair' garbage, while they are charging ANOTHER $20 AND making it Origin exclusive for the stuff we ACTUALLY WANT?! Just by LOOKING at that chart on page 1 convinced me that EA doesn't give one crap about their own customers. I'd LOVE to see EA answer this question: How comes they could make SC4 great and sell it for a fair price back then?

If SimCity ever comes out with some crazy 50 dollar shopping centre that provides like massive loads of tax money compared to the base game shopping centre. I would freak out.

Seriously, paid DLCs have to stay like SimCity 4 and Rush Hour where it doesn't affect users who don't have the DLC very much.

I would pay for, and buy, quite a lot of DLC for a SimCity game that I wanted to play.

This is not that game.
