I've never heard of a reboot (other than what you do to a PC). It just seems a bit confusing to me, what's wrong with Sim City 5?

Even if the game is officially just called "Sim City", I think to differentiate between it and SC4 or any other previous release, we'll have to come up with another name for it.

Yay! Finally announced! 8) Ok.........

Well, online only, hmm. It really does sound like they're trying to make it like the original CXL, but much much better, as there are no fees and lots more features (even the different city style sets in the Digital Deluxe edition sound quite similar to CXL2011's sets). I don't mind it being online only, I have good internet. By the sounds of it, you can have your own region. As it says, you have the option of working with friends and you can compete with friends and others regionally and/or globally. For myself, I might do both (depending on if I have many other friends and what they want to do).

I love the trailer, it really makes it look like an exciting new game. Can't wait to see the Glassbox Engine though. Great to see mining will be in this game too and environmental issues and other things. This looks like it will be a game that will most certainly top vanilla SC4. For me personally, CXL (2011 and 2012 versions) did that for me but at the moment, the new Sim City looks to top it. With custom content, at least past custom content was mentioned at the interview, so it shows that Maxis have acknowledged it so there's no escaping from the issue. We'll have to wait for news about that. Monte Cristo had all of these reasons (which seemed reasonable) about why they wouldn't let custom content happen during times of the Planet Offer in CXL (mainly copyright issues with real life buildings, online streaming of buildings so everyone who doesn't have the custom content can see it, etc.), but lets just wait for news. I'm very confident custom content will happen and will be given support, it's what made SC4 so long lasting, and Maxis have acknowledged it.

So may I say, Sim City, awesome! 8)

@Asheroo: It's not online only bro, so far atleast.. read this https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/topic/48235-simcity-5-facts/

That message at the bottom of the Origin page is a default message that you see with every game on Origin. That statement is not meant to be about Sim City's features, but just a default message to state that an internet connection is required for Origin.

On the official Sim City site FAQ and even on that same Sim City Origin page it states that it's online only (go to the Origin page and look under Game Features).

It looks so cartoony, I'm hoping that the gameplay will make up for it, and obviously it's just concept art at the moment...but right now I prefer seeing an absolutely crisp and lifelike looking ICC made by PaulvMontfort than a cartoony 'Coalcorp'

i dont belive this... you can play only online?

simcity 5 is then to forget .. I've been waiting a long time to see the event, and when it comes time features of the game, online-only. I just closed the portable and went to lie down because I'm very disappointed with the maxis .... Example, world have 500,000 players on simcity 4, 5 in city but i think 10,000 will be play ..

I played this game when I went to go in my village, and i haven't internet in village. Always played simcity4 on single-player. Now this is possible I have to share my city with other players online?

Maxis fail, sure

(sry for bad english)

We don't know if it's gonna be online-only, it's just our guess that it MAY be, so don't worry for now.

Looks like PC only according to the FAQ.

Minimum system requirements

Processor:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+ or better or Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2.0GHz or better Operating System: Windows XP/Vista/7

Operating System:

Windows XP/Vista/7

RAM:

Windows XP: 2GB

Windows Vista and Windows 7: 2GB

PCs using a built-in graphical chipset are recommended to have 2GB RAM

Graphics Card:

ATI Radeon HD 2x00 or better*

nVidia 7800 or better*

Intel 4100 Integrated Graphics or better*

DVD-ROM:

8x or better

*Minimum of 256MB of on-board RAM and Shader 3.0 or better support.

I checked the simcity.com website and could not find these requirements on there. Where did you find this? Trying to figure out if my current rig could support this!

Also, looking forward to hearing more details on SC5. Still a lot to speculate on.

Yeah, but point is, it will be online only. No offline. Of course by the sounds of it you can play 'single player' and have your own regions with your own cities and no one else's (I wonder how big it all will be), but it's all online.

If it's multiplayer 1-16, I would assume that the 1 is single player. I doubt that Maxis would go so far as to create an MMO-style, online-only game though, especially after Monte Cristo's bankruptcy.

EDIT:

INTERNET CONNECTION REQUIRED FOR PRE-LOADED GAME TO UNLOCK. GAME WILL BE AVAILABLE ON THE RELEASE DATE FOR THE TERRITORY WHERE YOU ARE LOCATED.

INTERNET CONNECTION REQUIRED FOR PRODUCT ACTIVATION. INTERNET CONNECTION, EA/ORIGIN ACCOUNT, ACCEPTANCE OF PRODUCT AND ORIGIN END USER LICENSE AGREEMENTS, INSTALLATION OF THE ORIGIN CLIENT SOFTWARE ( WWW.ORIGIN.COM/ABOUT ) AND REGISTRATION WITH ENCLOSED SINGLE-USE SERIAL CODE(S) REQUIRED TO PLAY, ACCESS BONUS CONTENT (IF ANY) AND ACCESS ONLINE SERVICES. SERIAL CODE REGISTRATION IS LIMITED TO ONE EA/ORIGIN ACCOUNT PER SERIAL CODE. SERIAL CODE(S) ARE NON-TRANSFERABLE ONCE USED. EULAS AND ADDITIONAL DISCLOSURES CAN BE FOUND AT WWW.EA.COM/1/PRODUCT-EULAS . EA ONLINE PRIVACY POLICY AND TERMS OF SERVICE CAN BE FOUND AT AT WWW.EA.COM . YOU MUST BE 13+ TO ACTIVATE SOFTWARE, ACCESS ONLINE FEATURES AND REGISTER FOR AN EA/ORIGIN ACCOUNT. EA MAY RETIRE ONLINE FEATURES AFTER 30 DAYS NOTICE POSTED ON WWW.EA.COM/2/SERVICE-UPDATES . EA MAY PROVIDE CERTAIN INCREMENTAL CONTENT AND/OR UPDATES FOR NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE, IF AND WHEN AVAILABLE.

It's likely not a multiplayer-only thing. The Internet connection is just for EA's draconian DRM.

Yeh! SC5 looks like SC4 but much more beautiful. Now, I expect to get a new complex Sim City game, not like the crappy SC Societies.

I am VERY impressed with the graphics. In the second video (delvelopers interview) Ocean says they wanted to go with the "tilt and shift" style of graphics to make it look like a "real" city that was minuturized. I really think this is going to be one the highlights of the new game. The look and feel of that is simply spectatcular!

When you can play with up to 16 players on one region the region size must be 4x4. But how big is one city?

I haven't had a chance to play SC4 for ages, and I just now seeing SC5/SC(2013) is indeed real. Color me surprised and elated.

Then I see they are not considering OS-X for the initial rollout, which make me disappointed. I have switched over to a Mac household and not sure if I really would want to build out a new rig to play literally just one game. :/

Ah OK, thank you. Does it seem a little early to anyone here to be posting system requirements for a game that doesn't release until next year, or am I wrong? I guess they can always make adjustments later... I'm actually surprised how "low" the minimum requirements are! I'm sure it would be much nicer on a gaming rig, but my core i3 laptop with integrated graphics could actually play SC5? If so, that's a pleasant surprise. :)

Yes, you'll be able to play it but in "Sim City Original" mode :

So much for aspirations. A lot of requests seem to have been met, but it has the smell of a game that is controlled by an on-line site. I have a strong dislike for being on line just to play a game.

Apparently the official name is SimCity 2013. Notice the actual lack of a 4 or a 5 in this title. Expect a totally new game that may be a jumped up version of Societies. It seems to be overloaded with stuff from The Sims. Not my bag.

After hearing the news about Simcity 5 I decided to become a member here and share my thoughts on it, played SC4 for a while, absolutely in love with how it looks but never managed to make a city profitable hayquejod.gif. I still love it though!

As for the SC 5 trailer: WOW! The leaked pics look like they were in-game, if that is the case: WOoOoOoOW!! i'm in love again!! Want want want!!

I Hope they keep a degree of that funky cartoony look in, the trailer is too realistic for me, but still damn nice!

But, if i'm totally honest, I'm very worried that it won't be as much fun as it seems. The things Lucy Bradshaw said scare me! Waaaay to much focus on environmental B.S. issues, and waaaaay too much focus on 'working together' (aka multiplayer) for a 'better planet' or something?? Sounds like some forced moralistic message to me. Then ofcourse there's EA, will they allow user generated content like BATS etc.? That's 50% of the fun of SC4. I don't get what is bad about 'Origin' though, but i'm not really a gamer...

What i'd like, is to build something beautiful, be it a small dreamy town or a big futuristic megapolis, make it profitable, tweak and personalise it, and then fly/drive around town, and maybe drive around in a neighbors town! And that's basically it

Welcome to Simtropolis.

You have a year or more to wait for this piece of vaporware. If you'd like to get a handle on generating a profitable city in SC4 try this tutorial.

This assumes you have a fully updated version of Deluxe (build level 1,1,640 or 1,1,641). It also uses quite a bit of custom content so just watch and enjoy. If you have any questions, PM me.

I've been waiting forever for a new SimCity - not the rubbish Societies or the hyped-and-disappointing Cities XL.

Hope the eventual delivery is worth the wait - they might rebuild from the ground up but at least they have the experience of how to build a successful city sim game to draw on.

I'm really happy that there are veterans onboard. They certainly have the experience to make a good game.

I don't think it will be just like SC4 with better graphics. I mean, you can't expect that. They have had a lot of success with The Sims, and it's making millions. They're obviously going taking some ideas from that game, would be stupid not to.

Anyways, looking forward to more news about the game.
