Looks like intelligently modular buildings.. exactly what is needed for a good 3d environment to ensure "lots" can conform to odd shapes.

I'm not concerned because Simcity always took on those issues and made you think. The politics just give a framing for how some people view the issues in the current state.

Also OOOOH YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

As for custom content, not a issue. All of the Simcities back to Simcity 2000 had BAT and Urban Renewal kits and whatnot.

Its just part of the system. Look at Spore, the whole point was sharing content.

Besides we rarely know anything about the system until what.. I think we waited 5 months to get the tools for Simcity or was it even longer? I cant remember.

I wouldn't say that there was no mention of Custom Content.

She had mentioned existing custom content within the first few minutes of her presentation. While nothing was said for CC for this new game, I find it positive that she at least mentioned it, and the community, and I'm sure there will be something of the like included in the game at some point in time.

Some of the things they talked about reminded me of Societies, which worried me. Other than that, I'm pretty excited.

They should seriously start talking about the game ._.

We will probably have to wait until the GlassBox conference tomorrow for more details.

Yeah, I guess.

Also, Im not sure if Im happy. If it's only multi, then I don't think there will be CC like in SC4. They also talk alot about gamers playing together...sounds like some facebook game >.>

But Im stil hyped :D

They didn't say much more then "Yeah, were making SC5" at this gamechangers thing. Although, they announced it first and not last. Surprising!

Nothing they said ruled Custom Content out. I'm still confident they'll allow it, I'm also sure the game wont be restricted to multilayer.

Well, she was talking about playing online, and now this website, where we can read: "For the first time, SimCity will offer a full multiplayer experience"

Thats not ruling out single player. The way I see it, online play may be closer to what we see with games like Civ V where you have a match with your friends rather than something like XL which tired to be an MMORPG. Single player may be like Spore, with your city stats posted publicly, etc.

Small neat detail that Scott Harrison just mentioned - a graph showing how much water a particular city was using.

ha, you're right, but for some reason, not sure why, I got the sense that it it's more in-depth and detailed in the new game than in SC4.

They said they would give some in depth details tomorrow at Glassbox, I hope there's a live stream.

Personally the biggest news I heard so far was that the game was only announced for PC. Hopefully this means that the game won't get gimped trying to fit it within console limitations. This should also hopefully bode well for custom content support since they can focus on things that PCs tend to do best at. Really looking good so far!!!

Unfortunately, the Glassbox presentation will not be streamed live.

I'm real happy this is a PC only game too. There'll probably be a Mac port I think, but thankfully nothing like Wii or Xbox. The multiplayer thing does scare me a little though... I want to be able to play the full thing by myself.

It's probably too early to try and say if we'll get custom content... but this is Maxis we're talking about here. Even if there are complications with the online parts, they've never had a SC since the original without custom content. They know why SC4 is still selling.

Pity it's not called SC5 though. How do we differenciate between it and the entire series or the original game?

Anyone got a link to this thing? The presentation? I didn't see it live.

Anyway, I’m pretty excited so far. The trailer looked awesome. Dirk says big changes are coming to the site too… I wonder what that’ll be about.

Hopefully an archived version of the stream will show up somewhere.

I was watching the live stream earlier and felt very optimistic hearing her speak. She brought up the fact that custom content was a part in earlier versions of the series early in her presentation. She had also said that it was one of the reasons she was drawn to the series. Hearing someone from the development team mention this makes me feel that this game might actually be in good hands.

I think they figure there's been enough time since the original game--that was 23 years ago, in 1989, plus the notion of a "reboot" (e.g. "Star Trek") has become culturally accepted/relevant, and as it will have been 10 years since the previous installment, the term "reboot" works. I've taken to referring to it as "new SimCity" (or "new SC"). David (dedgren) seems keen on SC:Next. The forum itself indicates "SimCity (2013)". As I like parentheses (they let me say more without disrupting the flow of the sentence to much), the latter would not be intolerable for me.

As far as my reaction goes, I'm still processing everything, and will continue to do so over the coming days, but my initial reaction (upon simply seeing the trailer, "inside look" and new website--I missed the GDC stream) was fairly positive.
