Loved your CJ so far... How can you lay your roads so accurate accordingly to the RL towns? Two Thumbs Up!

it looks very similar indeed ^^

one Q, is this going to be an eye candy or a functional city? because there are a lot of angles there and the zones won't grow.

Wow!! Brilliant. I do the same question that Paulobergonci did, "is this going to be an eye candy or a functional city? because there are a lot of angles there and the zones won't grow." :ohyes:

The layout of the roads in your region looks very organic and really similar to how a town would develop. Keep it up!

Towerdude - Thanks Dudu, but it’s not just countryside :-p

Samerton – Cheers Sam, I hope this time I can actually get somewhere with this...

Jotauveefe – Thanks Javier, but it definitely won’t be finished for a while D:

Nathanthemayor – The grid must be crushed, muahahahaha

_marsh_ - Thanks marsh, your work is always a large inspiration

Grstudios – I will show you with this tutorial..

Paulobegonci – Well, to be honest, there is room for mostly 1x2 lots, everything will be plopped except for residential...

    MamaLuigi945 – Thanks :-)

    Efkin – Thank you Efkin

Shingure – Yup, the end result looks good but it does take a lot of time D:

Skyscraper241 – Um... Well the region is SC4, and it’s a recreation, the map is Mapquest and I edit it in GIMP

    Emperordaniel – D: Thanks

Ninjasaur101 – Thank you, it will be awesome, I hope...

Andrey Km – Already answered, thanks for viewing

Packersfan – Thanks, Wenzel is a big inspiration to the non-griddyness in places..

Cacks – Thanks cacks, more you shall get...

    Ee99 – Cheers J

FlyHigh – The trick is, it is a real town :-p

TMorgan – Well as a matter of fact I’ll be moving onto the airport fairly shortly I think..

Vlasky – Thanks and kisses :-P

Benedict - Wow, this is another surprise, thank you..

Anyway, here we are again, this week I have a tutorial on how I build my roads to not be on angles. This requires Google Earth which most people have, and this is basically how I do things, it's a bit too complicated but I hope you can get the jest of what I'm trying to do:

    part1ih.jpg

So this our start point of our street, and we need to find where it ends so we can link it up. We need Google Earth for this, so lets open it up!

    part2x.jpg

So, here's our street in real life; Google Earth. To find the end point you will need to use two axis's; Y and X. This is because the games method of handling Diagonals is odd and it is mostly inaccurate. First I measure from the bottom of an equivalently SC4 tile until the end of the street, making sure to keep it 100% straight for the accuracy. I can see it measures around 253.93m, which we can find the SC4 equivalent with an easy sum:

253.93/16 = 15.87 = 16 SC4 Tiles. If you want to be really accurate I could've multiplied 15.87 by 1.024, seeing as this is the games way of enlarging tiles to fit with it's scale, this is mainly useful with large stretches of road ect.

So now we have the Y value of the street we can mark it in game.

    part3f.jpg

So now we have the 16 tiles marked in game on the Y axis, we can go and find the X values. Lets go back to Google Earth, be sure to keep your old measuring points, otherwise it won't work D:

    part4ft.jpg

Now we can measure across to find where the street properly ends, kind of like a method of triangulation if you like. We can see it is 20.32m across, which is rounded down to 1.26 SC4 tiles, so we need to go 1 tile across to find our end point. Use the same sum again for this..

    part5zc.jpg

So now we can see it is 1 tile across for our old 16 tiles, just join them up on a suitable route and you're done.. Yay!

Sorry if that was a bit complicated, but this is how I do all my roads, measure in straight lines first, find the two values of the end and start points, and then join it up.

I do however, have a teaser for what's to come

See you all next week in my project

Wow, great teaser there...I love the old rail tunnel...I really need to get some ploppable dirt paths like that so I can implement something like that where old rail once stood! Keep up the great work.

This is great. The image is really good and your region view is awesome. One question, how did you made that tunnel?
