Hi, greets from zurich.44.gif
I like the hardbridge and the airportbase.
The traffic view is nice but it has to many skyscrappers. Zurich has in reality 300.000 and the county about 1 million. Never mind great work 31.gif

Well Dannato, did you know that high-rises projects in Turry cause some trouble in Nijni-Novgorod...

The Harding Bridge Project was getting ahead with no problem at all. The owners were willing to sell right away at a reasonable price. Investors believed in the financial success of the project. All the necessary transit infrastrucure was already there (except a new parking garage), and being at a safe distance form residential blocks, there were no such problems as complaints about obstructed views or threats of lawsuits due to increased noise and pollution. The residents in the nearby neighbourhoods east of the highway were very favourable to add a modern-looking tower to the skyline of Ashley White Industrial. Many of them also hoped to get one of the 3100 Co-

    Great update!

I loved the story, and agree and disagree with your (the mayor's) ideas and thoughts.

Ofcourse you can't exclude the poor from your town, but you must also remeber that in the current situation the poor don't have anything to look forward too, if there is not enough to look forward to, nothing to fight for for the poor. They now there aren't many Co$$$ Jobs so why would they go to school for it? If you make mor Co$$$ aviable and provide the neccesary education and parks the rich will come and th poor will grow richer and profit from the towns economy boosts.

    But thats just my idea.

    Love to see more!

I loved the story too, it's very entertaining. The Harding Bridge Project looks really good. About the dannato tower, I don't dare to say anything against it 18.gif. Great work and planning again.

    Take care.

So I don't have to pray for rainy sunday's anymore to get one of my oldest favourite CJs update 17.gif - if that is no good news ..?!? 9.gif

Hmmm ... In general I am bit cured of highrises- I overdone them before I started Urland. Anyway - the substance for this highrise is definately there and it'll look great ...

So ... give old Dannato what he wants - if you ask me ..

But if you give in to Dad, then the storyline won't be as good2.gif. I vote that you refuse to bow to the wishes of evil doers.

...Or maybe a nice skyscraper might look good there after all. Looks are at least a little important in this game, even if function and realism are fantastic goals.

One evening, the dilapidated Hedman Planners Office on the block in question for the Newgate project caught fire.

    TU-CJ-122_Newgate_Fire.jpg

The building's internal structure was severely damaged, stability of the building was no longer insured. Although the Regional Heritage Fund wanted to save the building, but the engineers I charged with examining the building insisted there was no alternative to tearing it down. And the entire block with it. Of course, everybody knew this couldn't be a coincidence. An investigation was started immediately. Anyone building on this site now would immediately be suspected of being involved in the arson.

    TU-CJ-123_FoxTwr.jpg

All prospective investors and contractors got cold feet, including brother Donald Dannato and his XS Construxion. This was my chance of chosing entirely new partners: a renouned international architect and a foreign media company, after which the building was named: Fox Tower -- a high-wealth building, but at least the number of jobs (1400) was sustainable.

The Dannatos were furious, once again. To apease them, I had to promise to build their much wanted Dannato Tower somewhere else in central Turry.

@ Everyone: thanks for looking, thanks for the comments.

@ Jasperdeman: Hmm, interesting theory. I did lower the taxes some, but no significant effect so far. I'll continue to add more parks and landmarks, maybe.

@ Equilibria: Hi there, and welcome here. I usually try to combine function and looks, and I usually try not to give in to my dad 11.gif

Seems to be planning in Turry is a bit like RL ... You plan and you do and you plan and then something happens which made all old planning obsolete ...

Nice idea about that fire ... 2.gif

And that Fox Tower does look good!! 44.gif

Great work + entertaining story! 16.gif

Wow. Considering this is easily my favorite CJ (other than the superb Adventures In New Urbanism of course), that means a lot to me. I'm stoked you decided to start updating again!

I guess I should say thanks to you, as well, since this CJ is the main influence on a huge CJ project I've got in the works for when I finally wind down Adventures. It's going to be big, and I have a feeling you more than anyone will like it a lot.

Anyway, thanks for the kind words, and I look forward to future updates, as always.

Nice lil' story with an interesting twist (very original and realistic).

And Fox tower is a nice building. It's not too big (what the number of jobs is concerned) but boosts the attractivity of that area.

    Keep it up.

Turry Satellite Map - 2 Million Special Edition

Here's a new satellite map that has been published just recently, a special edition after the Turry Metro Region has reached the benchmark of 2 million inhabitants. It's a bit distorted, but still I like this map. It's hanging on the wall behind my desk in at the Mayor's Office now.

    <ahttp://homepage.hispeed.ch/dannato/turry/pics/maps/MAP-Turry_satellite720.jpg align=baseline>

I spend a lot of time in my office looking at this map, thinking what areas could be further developed. I often sit and study this map even very late in the evening, when everybody else has left the office.

The truth is, I prefer the office to going home in order to avoid spending much time with Laetitia. Yeah, it's that bad. When I come home, Laetitia (the wife I inherited form the real Dannato) usually goes talking endlessly about the 10,000 simolean shoes she just bought, or whom she met at what cocktail party, and most interestingly, who she suspects is having an affair with whom... Then, after an hour or so, she suddenly notices I'm not paying attention to her chatter and asks with an reproachful overtone: Are you listening to me at all?

That's usually the begining of a never-ending chain of complaints, half-hearted apologies, accusations, counter-accusations, lies, shouting, tears, crashing vases... and mostly I end up saying something like I gotta go for a walk or: Gotta get some fresh air, slamming the door and leaving the house.

@ all of you: thanks for your visits and your comments.

This update is very short and a bit cheap.  But I created this map because I wanted to know what my region view would look like seen from a vertical perspective, so I thought I might as well post it.

    A Private Place

We've been looking for a discreet, segregated house where Monica Lubitzky and I could spend some private hours on our own. Here's a little house I find most suitable for me and my -- err... I guess the approprate term would be mistress...

    <ahttp://homepage.hispeed.ch/dannato/turry/pics/TU-CJ-140_Isleybg_D_Refuge01.jpg align=baseline>

Next to the house, there's nothing but a rapeseed field on one side, and the forest on the other. I can already see us spending romantic, intimate hours at the cosy fireplace after a long, undisturbed walk in the woods. Just what a mayor needs to relax from this stressful job, endless discussions with his clan and a wife that isn't really his wife at all.

    <ahttp://homepage.hispeed.ch/dannato/turry/pics/TU-CJ-141_Isleybg_D_Refuge02.jpg align=baseline>

The house I bought for us -- using a false identity, of course -- is in Isleyburgh. Isleyburgh is in the very rural south-west corner of the Turry region. The village is so small it's not even on the map, shown in my previous post. But I've marked the location in green for you. But don't tell anybody about this house, it's a secret.

    @@@@reply section@@@@

@ everybody:  Thanks guys and gals for the comments.

Creating the satellite map shown in my previous post is actually no big deal using Photoshop -- just a matter of distorting the region view until you get a square. I did it something like this:

    1. Make a shot of your entire region view (you'll probably have to make two screenshots and then patch them together since the whole region doesn't usually fit in the screen).

    2. Cut out the background and the sediment section of the region map (preferably make the background transparent)

    3. Select All  (Ctrl+A) then Copy (Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Shift+C if you've been working with more than one layer)

    4. Create a new, empty picture file, be sure to make it large enough, e.g. 3000x3000 px will do

    5. Make a new layer with a square box the size you want your map to be (this step is optional, just for visual guidance)

    6. Make a third layer where you insert (Ctrl+V) the region view you copied to your clipboard.

7.Select the area around the visible region you just inserted

    8. In the Image menu, select Transform then Distort. When hovering your cursor on the corners or the borders of the selection, arrows shoud now appear.

    9. Drag each corner of the selection so that the region picture forms a square. (If you made opitonal step 5 you can use the layer below as a guidance)

    10. Crop the image to the size of your (visible, now square) region -- and voil

The vertical region view bears a striking resemblance to a real-life aerial photo. Very nice.

Now I have to go incorporate that into current projects I'm already in the middle of. More work! Thanks!!

Hey Dannato. Wo, your region shot looks amazing, so similar to aerial photos in real life... stunning... I especially like the realistic spread of the housing development area. Excellent job.

Also great job with the rural community in your last update...

that satalite view is truly astounding....

I could stare at it for hours.  If it was not for the airplanes in the pic I would swear it was a real photo and not SC4.  I just figured out how to post mosaics myself.  doing somthing like this will take some practice.  thanks for the inspiriation!

    keep up the great work.

There isnt really anyway to discribe how totaly incriedable your journal and you building skills are. No joking....that is the most realist regionview I have seen...in any journal. I know I dont make it in here to often to comment But I wanted you to know that you continue to be my favorite journaler here at ST.
    Keep on building and....wow!

Your freedom is the most expensive thing you have, even if you arn't the one that paid for it... Use it well.
