if i want to start a CJ, should i start a region from scratch or is it ok to have one with an established, but still developing region?

Depends on your definition of well...

Since I knew the roads would get filled wiht traffic i put the train system in place.  And my passanger train system runs well in the red and oranges in congestion.  And eventually the roads themselves began to get congested so I implated a bus system.  Each block contains two bus staitons.  By block I mean the road surrounded blocks.  And up untill now i see no problem wiht it.  This started happening when i started to add a little medium density to it.  I want to see how far the system can go before the roads get too congested.

So in laments terms:

For suburbia it works great and when you get the medium wealth gogn it really helps you pile up demand for a downtown area.

Waway625, that part is up to you. But if your talking in terraforming, its good to have a good part of the region developed. But if your talking cities, you don't need much development at the start.

My Suburb of Holding/Lindsa

Note: there are a few missing textures i forgot to download 22.gif

And for some reason my residental comes up majority R$, this is the first time its really happened. Usually I get R$$ when i develop cities like this. The mods I have increase demand overall. Anyone know what im doing that might cause this? I found the solution, blast the R$ tax to maximum.

I'm a relative newbie but I thought I was doing pretty well until I came here! You guys are unbelievable!

Also, I see a lot of things which must be in the deluxe version or in downloads here on this site. Gotta do some more exploring and certainly upgrade to Deluxe.

Looking forward to browsing around!

Whoa, Craig, excellently done suburbs! Nice job keeping those streets winding and realistic. I'd add some vareity to the trees (add some Cycledogg trees, as I see PEG's and jeronij's) but otherwise great.

Good God, Soldyne - that's probably some of the best suburban medium-density residential development I've ever seen on ST. And you do it with exclusively the Maxis buildings - even more impressive. Amazing work with the strip commercial development also; those vast expanses of parking lots make it more realistic.

so in the states, Malls are built on suburbs? here in the Philippines, large malls can be found in major cities only

yes waway625, in the US malls and strip malls are a common symbol of suburban shopping centers. there can be malls in downtown areas but they are not visible as such from the sky, they would just look like every other buiding in a skyscrapper forest (or they would be partially underground).

thanks pickled pig, if you would like to see more, my CJ was updated last night with lots of similar pics.

everyone else, keep the great suburban developments comming. it was this thread that sparked my desire to start designing and using suburbs in my cities.
