I'm having bits of trouble with this mod: I have the NAM with the ANT plugin in their original folders, along with the RHW mod in its original folder under the Plugins directory. THe highway menu has two different ANT tools, and selecting the second automatically chooses the first. The problem I'm having is that dragging two ANT networks next to eachother in any way results in just that; no texture changes or anything of the sort. What have I done incorrectly>

sunkenhighway: First, RURAL means not in the city. As in you won't need a lot of capacity. Also, with the NAM, you can just choose a higher capacity modd. And the only time I have EVER had a highway at more than a light yellow was when an entire lage city of residential had only one highway connection to the city with jobs.

Uh, who cares what it's called. It was designed to have the same capacity as the standard highway.

Sure, but this isn't physically realistic nor does it look at all realistic for a small highway to be able to handle all that traffic.

And the only time I have EVER had a highway at more than a light yellow was when an entire lage city of residential had only one highway connection to the city with jobs.quote>

It's quite easy to fill highways to capacity or beyond if you know how to design them well, even with several other forms of transportation available concurrently.

True, I have many highways in yellow-orange and even red in a single city that includes every single mode of transportation, with homes and jobs close by. The problem is that its just too dense so highways and bridges get way over capacity.

@Edman_123: I haven't looked at the Rural Highway project in detail, but since the latter is derived from the ANT, I think you have to remove the ANT plugin file.

@sunkenhighway: While your idea sounds quite nice, isn't that a bit out of the focus? The project is called "Rural Highway", so more than two or three lanes in each direction are highly uncommon. If you want to mod it to your likings, feel free to do so, but I guess the majority is looking for something that's between the in-game avenues and highways.

Without then ANT plugin, the RHW has no textures, meaning that if I place any RHW, the tool preview is a dark orange, and nothing is visibly laid.

I know it was originally intended for rural highway, but due to the great flexibility in placement and connections to roads the current rhw allows, converting it for construction of custom-sized highways is a simple matter of repainting the roads.

If I knew how to modd it I would have already done it myself and offered it around. But since I don't, and from what I read modding is a very complicated business, I thought I'd offer up the idea.

Just in case any modders out there liked the idea and wanted to do it. I've always thought it was a darn shame sim city 4 only came with 3-lane highways, and then I saw this project and saw the potential for custom-size highways with it.

K thats all im rambling

Thanks a TON. That highway he designed is exactly what I've been refering to. Now if only it existed.

Right now there are none.  I use one way roads, puzzle pieces and hole diggers to create interchanges.  It works very well b/c it is customizable

The entrance/exit ramps don't exist yet, at least not in any public release that I'm aware of. Really, the currently available alpha is just sorta there to say, "Look, it works!" and to publicly test the basic system. I assume, anyway--it's not like I'm a modder in anything, let alone this.

They've been working on them, though; there are various screenshots littered throughout the thread.

Oh, but we can improvise: (Sorry about the PNG)

05xa.png

A basic Trumpet T.

19es.png

A basic road underpass.

27px.png

Easy to make street access point.

33rw.png

A larger, higher capacity road access. The problem here is the lack of a road onramp. Thusly, it must change back to street before entering the highway.

Hey! What are you doing! I'm trying very hard not to swear at you right now! No spamming the forums!

EDIT: Reported to Mods. Took out the all caps from my post.

EDIT: Your Honor, I move that the last post be stricken from the record, on grounds that the posts it replies to no longer exist.

Motion granted.

@Frankie_Grove: Not sure I understand. The 2 lane grayish thing is the RHW that the last 24 pages (excluding those 2 posts with the vulgarity) have been talking about. The black road is one way, using on-slope puzzle pieces to make the bridges. I then added concrete walls and bridge trusses, both from the STEX, though I forget who they are by. The trusses are meant for rail, but they work with all networks.

EDIT: Make that 6 posts of vulgarity/spamming. Is he blocked yet?

Edit2: 5, sorry. Can't count today. Not that it's that big of a difference.

Edit3: 4? Oh. they're being deleted. Yea.

Edit4: Postings relating to deleted posts stricken.

I have to admitt that I havnt really been following this thread, and havnt kept up with the progress.

the other day I somehow happened across the link to the public beta download...I installed it thinking "what the hell is this"....wasnt exspecting much

then I tried it in game....Blam! I havnt been this excited sense the Jennifer love hewitt issue of Maxuim (side note...she is my future wife....no matter what the restraining order says 4.gif )

This mod is great, though it isnt completely ready for prime time...but it shows incriedable potential.

I really love the RHW-to-street intersections...they are done a spot on realistic...also the transition from ave-to-RHW.

though the Road-to-RHW still looks a bit off. specially if you have a road only intersect with one side of the highway. is this something that will be changed?

I also like how well the siding blends in with lots...here is an exsample

Your freedom is the most expensive thing you have, even if you arn't the one that paid for it... Use it well.

Well, progress is a little more under wraps now that we will be NAM optional plugin. As for new content...all of the basic connections should now be included...everything that has been posted by the texture workers. (ie the new flat ramps and transitions) There will also be the addition of "safeguard pieces" to have fewer instances of the RHW dissolving. Maybe some advanced diagonals that allow you to have two adjacent blends. Maybe some right angle turns, more as a safeguard piece than to be realistic. If for some reason I have nothing to do this weekend (not very likely) then I will also finish one or two of the giant additions I'd like to get into the RHW. Can't say there's much progress on 3D ramps right now, though. Either way, I'll give you some pictures this weekend of how the new features look in action.

Yay...were almost to a beta release! (Technically those were alphas.)

qurlix: Did I just hear you say that the new transitions such as road are ready? Or are you saying that you think they will be made ready soon?

Excuse me, but why I am I missing only the textures for the RHW? I am able to lay them, and the menu has the correct icon, but neither the tool nor the finished product show any textures.

Do you have the ANT plugin from the NAM installed? I think I saw a post or two about that earlier.

Helpful advice, (which i just figured out) do not use the RHW in urban areas! Thats why its called the rural highway!

    img115/4336/ultimatecommandcentresep131691.png

However, it does look good when used with the nexus road centre/center medians

I look forward to the development of this mod and would like to applaud all those people who have contrubited to this.  This is awsome!!!
