Perhaps Simcity 5 doesnt need to be a new game completely, but should simply build on the strengths of simcity 4. Bear in mind I know nothing of computer science or the technology it takes to make such a thing exist or function.

But what if Simcity 5 WAS a 3D adaption of the cities we build in simcity 4. Most of the buildings are graphic representations, so is it possible that they could be imprinted in a 3d environment???? The underlying game mechanics would remain with Simcity 4, but Simcity 5 would function as an Expansion Pack to the original game. You could then import your Simcity 4 cities into an *interactive* 3D environment. You may not be able to make planning or development decisions, but you can control things such as financing, Approval ratings, or even respond to disasters. You become the sim in your city; and the possibilities could grow from there.

Granted you'd probably need a very strong graphics engine to really enjoy, but you would need to process growth mechanisms.

Just a thought . . . .

Would SimCity 5 (not-going-to-be-the-future-game from EA) be Cities XL 2011 (from a new company Focus Home Interactive)?

Will Wright, many years ago, has answered the question as to why a new SC5 will never come. Here is his quote:

"SimCity kind of worked itself into a corner, (because) we were still appealing to this core SimCity group. It had gotten a little complicated for people who had never played SimCity. We want to take it back to its roots where somebody who had never heard of SimCity can pick it up and enjoy playing it without thinking it was really, really hard."

Thus resulted in what became SCS. If you think about it hard enough, SimCity shot its own self in the foot. Which is probably the reason why EAxis, released such tools like LE & BAT, so that users could create their own buildings & addons to modify this game. Will Wright knew SimCity was going no where, so he did what he could to continue the fan base of the game, without making the series even more complicated for beginners.

Hey At least with Darkspore EA allowed Maxis to put their logo on it. Plus there is one major reason for not developing SC5. EAxis has dug itself into a deep hole where no one will give then a ladder until SC5 is developed the way people like it. I mean everyone has different ideas on SC5, some want backwards comp. with the old buildings, I mean it is possible with a SC4Model coverter but think of the bugs. This situation will get worse when SC5 becomes 3D instead of the partial 3D from SC4. Also weather FX, if the Sims3 community wants weather FX in a fully 3D open world game with only a small town, that would take up a ton of RAM and processing power and with storms and floods, bugs will come in like crazy. Now think about similar FX on a full-scale city. That can burn out your graphics card.

Also remember, Simcity is a franchise like the Sims and Need For Speed. But unlike those EA messes up Simcity twice Creator and Societies and the Franchise is dead due to harsh reviews. With the Sims EA messes up countless time World Adventure for example and basically all their stuff packs, they are all kinda useless. Need for Speed EA messed it up with ProStreet (what was that!?) and Undercover (same idea as Most Wanted recycled) but all of those are not discontinued because of one reason. The game that follows are one of the best of the series eg. Hot Pursuit 2010, Ambitions etc.

EA has the money and the team and millions of people around the world to help them but why won't they develop SC5? Simple. WE ALL WANT DIFFERENT THINGS. Some don't want bugs but some want backwards compatability, some want 3D graphics, others want to have the ability to play it on computers which are not 3D friendly and the list goes on. This also includes casual gamers

In the end, you will get a game which no one can recognize. In other word SCS. And on that note people won't call SC5 or whatever a real Simcity and everyone will want Simcity 6 to be developed.

PS: It is easier for EAxis to stay in that hole that they dug than to come out. It is also safer for them to stay in that hole even when it is filled with llamas than to receive criticism about their games.

Its as simple as if EA takes a risk they want to take a risk on starting up a new series, they want to create a new sucessful franchise, they attempted with SCS to revive Sim City, but it failed and they moved on.

EA nows appaently sees Sim City sadly as a money pit and a loss of profits, gotta remember that EA is a business and goes to where the most money is, hence why you are seeing alot of shooters and the reboot of MOH and Need for speed.

If EA releases a SimCity in the style of SC3000 or SC4, it would be named SimCity 7 or SimCity 7000 because there have been two (non-mobile) SimCity games since SimCity 4 Rush Hour was released. I would prefer 7 over 7000 because that would make them like Windows.

Not sure about the harsh reviews but I kind of like Societies. More ground level interaction than classic SC. Wish I had more games like these. They are quite immersive.

Since, I micromanage an office in my day job :P

There is a petition somewhere on the web for this:They want 100000 signitures, and as of today there are only about 2500. By the look of it, SC5 May not happen.

did they call "grand theft auto 4" "grand theft auto 6" because there were 2 titles released inbetween? and what about the street fighter series? did they mess up and call it street fighter 3 when they should have called it street fighter 14 (or however many streetfighter 2s there were)

it will be called what it is called, but in order to keep the spinoffs out of the true simcity lineup then the only logical thing to do would be to call it 5 or 5000

Mayors of Sim City, here my call. We have been let down. We have all loved this game since a reptilian monster first destroyed our green residential blocks. Before it was called "SimCity Classic." We have been loyal through the good times of SimCity 2000, Urban Renewal, 3000, SC4, and Rush Hour. Maxis was our hero. But Societies? Really?!? Let us forget that hiccup. What we need is another add-on. Not a whole new game. SC4 Rush Hour was a God Send, and you mayors have only enhanced it, but let's let the game makers on high repay their debt. Below is an array of "improvements" on an already incredible game. Feel free to add a few. If anyone knows someone at EA, pass it on. Let's make this happen... PLEASE!!!

Dear EA, We have always been loyal to Sim City of Maxis, and since you are their wonderful fairy step-mother we are now loyal to you. We do however have a request, and we know if anyone can bring this to fruition, well... We would like an add-on to Sim City 4/Rush Hour. As your gamers, we know what we like, and here are a few suggestions(read "demands") lol.

Neighborhoods...

Each Neighborhood with its own pros & cons.

-Local Parades and Festivals complete with tent cities/music celebrations

-Different taxes/services/town halls depending on the suburb

-Low wealth neighborhoods do not lower the whole city's "aura"

-Ability to mark neighborhood territory/zones

-Airports/Seaports/Military districts are zoned

Advanced Seascapes...

-We all love to see Whale in our small lakes...why not schools of game fish (trout, salmon, bass, tilapia,)

-Dolphins/Porpoise, Rays, Squid, various Whale species depending on region

-Coral and Reef beds full of colorful fish

-Yachts, jet skis, submarines and other exciting craft

Regions and Ages

-Sid Myers had a great idea with Civilization. Start city/region during ancient times, and let it move forward from said time

(Ancient,medieval,colonial,industrial,post war,modern,future)

-Regions...Tundra, Temperate,Tropical,Desert

-European, Asian, African, South American, North American

-Ability to switch Governments

-Larger Military Role to protect our regions or invade others

-Weather changes,

Snow, Thunder/lightning, Drought/Floods

`Sim Involvement

- Give your "My Sims" a true personality

- Maybe they're celebrities in the city/region/world

-City council, let them give you feedback

-Follow them on vacation to other regions...how does yours compare

-Families/ more than one opinion on a lot

Misc.

-Traffic Delays for road improvements, accidents, around stadiums area during events

-Nationa/Intll Events...maybe the Prime Minister, President, King is in town complete with increased news, police, paparazzi coverage

-Tourism/population increase do to festivals, National Awards Shows etc..

Online play...

-Set up a network where we can connect our regions with other

players regions/set up partnerships

-Regular updates via internet

-Many of us are even in a willing position to pay on a per diem/monthly basis for access

EA we have always been loyal to you...time to return the favor

it should also have a realistic water table

lakes and streams that form from melting snow on high mountans, and can pool up at any low area. and have the water dry up in the summer time months.

it could all go into having seasons

there also needs to be a plethora of regional tools

and i would totally pay a monthly fee for a true simcity 5

Redscope... The only reason any of us plays this game is because we are all dreamers. We are creating things where things were not before. Don't take that away from us. Old or not, an updated SC4 would be incredible...even if it is only in our dreams! Why Hate?!?

He's not exactly hating, he's just being realistic. There's never going to be an SC5 end of story. But no one's stopping anyone else dreaming or coming up with ideas :)

We don't need another Simcity, the custom content is well enough to keep gameplay for over years to come. We have mods, new models, etc. for us players to use and FOR FREE! Think about it, the current video gamer wouldn't like to think while playing because they like to shoot around and what-not. (Although I player shooters too, I player more smarter ones besides COD and BF2.) Since any company's goal is to make money, they'll go for the thing they make the most money which is in this case; sports and action games.

We do need another SimCity. Modders cannot add multicore support, 3D, larger city maps, a proper traffic simulator, or any improved core gameplay mechanics for that matter. Everything we have at Simtrop is a workaround for something that cannot be made without hacking the EXE.

This.

I wouldn't mind a nice expansion pack that offered improvements to SC4's core/graphic engines, stability and compatibility, even if it cost nearly $60.

Even if such expansion pack is unfeasible, SC5 doesn't have to be even more complex than SC4, it can be simply a modernized version of SC4. It's cheaper for the greedy EA anyways, recode a couple of EXE files instead of building an entirely new game from scratch. Besides, SC4 is a legacy program, all software and hardware become obsolete very quickly due to the fast pace of technology movement. Eventually we will be forced to code an emulator (or even multiple emulators) or use dual-boot just to run Window XP/Vista/7 to run SC4, and even that does not guarantee full functionality or stability of the program.

Now we all cry...8.gif

Why does everyone bash ea? the only mistake they made was to not make sim city 5... and they might fix that eventually (I hope)1.gif.

I hope they come out with another city builder because scs sucked badly. they tried to expand to other people and it failed. if they are very Dependant on making money then my suggest would be to target the rts fan base. an example would be taking cnc general units and adding them to sim city it self. now im not saying they should turn sim city into a full blown rts game, but rather add the element that an every day city possibly faces. another idea would be a "stock market" that allows you to trade with other players via web. also, they should bring back some of the old effective disasters such as riots from sim city 2000. their are many roads they can take if they invest the slightest bit of time to improving sim city 4 rather then creating a new engine. they could be doing the same thing that they do with the sims, which is creating expansions to improve the over all game it self. thats another idea, they could stem sim city into the sims world. allow city builders to create a city that "the sim" players can play in and or live in.

All these suggestions, desires and passion should be directed to the couple of groups working on various city building games, directing them toward a literal sim city 5..6..whatever via EA\Maxis is a complete dead end. Maybe we'll eventually get an equivalent out metropolis, synekism or the various others.

Its hopeless... EA killed the SimCity series when they released Simcity Societies. If I was in charge of EA, i would make a SC5. I would make it just like SC4, but make it more realistic! I would put in more buildings, more networks, more vehicles to drive, the ability to go to war, make your own city size, the list would go on. But sad to say, I am not in charge of EA... Its run by some guy who makes bad games to line his pockets. Will Wright should have stuck with us the whole way 8.gif

Even if an actual SC5 was announced, they wouldn't include the ability to go to war. Cool as it seems, the point of SimCity is to build a city, not an army.

If you know Tropico 3, it is somewhat a realistic kind of city-building simulation (with an added political angle that is). It uses a very nice 3D engine which could zoom out quite far and close in to near the streets (almost ground level), with considerably good amount of details. It has generally favourable reviews, so the idea of a SimCity 5 with full 3D engine is realistic, especially if the game is released in the next 5 to 10 years. I'm not expecting it to be in development anytime soon.

P.S. While I do agree that you shouldn't be able to go to war for a city-building game, it sounds fun if you could add it as an event just to make things more realistic.

Of course it will come out, if you have 100 million dollars to give to EA to develop the game. Bottom line it will never come out

Good point. I put going to war to make it seem more realistic. The STEX already has military related downloads, so I figured It why not?

IMO, if someone were to restart the Sim City franchise with SC5-3D or something like it......they better not >:( .

All the mods made, all the tools developed, all the instructions in the Omnibus on how to trick this game out, all the time and effort backwards engineering this piece of software and then get SC5 and start that ALL OVER AGAIN!? Games never get such a cult following by fans because they're always dropping the ball for the next new thing. It be utter madness to redo all this wonderful work.
